He spent 9000 years underground to stop himself from continuing the bloodlust. He returned to join hands to help the Atlanteans working undercover against the vampires. But his futility and being alone has forced him to finally give in to ending it all.

Serai is an Atlantean princess, who was one of a groupof young maidens, who agreed to be placed into a magical stasis to ensure the future of the Atlantean race, and be saved for a future King of Atlantis. This was 11 thousand years ago, when Atlantis went under the sea. Serai has now awakened, as something is wrong with the Emperor jewel, which protected all the maidens in the stasis. The Emperor jewel is also one of the jewels needed for the Trident, to help Atlantis rise. Serai uses her magic to help her escape. She wants no part of Atlantis, that seemed to have forgotten her, and calls the portal to run. But she knows she must find the missing jewel to save the other maidens who are still locked away from a sure death.

When Daniel is walking into the sunlight, he is suddenly pulled away and lands at Serai’s feet. He shockingly recognizes her, and she does too, but her mind is still in a state of confusion. 11 thousand years ago, Serai was Daniel’s first and only love. But circumstances and timing tore them apart, as Atlantis was shortly ready to disappear. Serai was visiting the jewelry shop where Daniel worked, and as it was attacked, he shoved her into an underground hiding place. When Serai came back up, Daniel was near death and she made a fast decision to save his life. She allowed a nightwalker mage to change Daniel. This was how he became a vampire. Serai returned home intending to check up on Daniel soon, but her father who felt Daniel was not worthy of her, lied to her and Daniel was dead. Atlantis shortly went under the sea and she was one the “lucky” maidens placed in stasis, for a few years (which ends up to be 11 thousand years).

Serai’s goal is to find the person who is misusing the power of the Emperor jewel, as it is killing her and her sisters. But Daniel is not going to let Serai go now that he has found her, even if that means they die on this mission together. This story is about a wonderful love story of two people who though separated for thousands of years, have never forgotten one another. This was their second chance to rekindle their romance. At the same time find the missing jewel that threatens to destroy them, as well as Atlantis. The majority of the story takes place in the red rock country of Sedona, Arizona. Their true love is more emotional then in the previous books, and it is also a chance for the redemption Daniel needs. It was great to watch them rediscover their love, her see a world that has totally changed, and for Daniel to finally have what he has always wanted…someone to share his life with and to love with passion. When they reached the soul-meld, it was very emotional, as Daniel now knew he did indeed have a soul.

The story is also filled with lots of action and danger. It was great to see Riley, Erin, and Keeley helping to try to save the maidens. Then at the end to see all of the couples together (Riley/Conlan, Ven/Erin, Justice/Keeley, Alexios/Grace, Brennan/Tiernan, Christophe/Fiona) come together to help save Daniel and Serai. Also fun to see Poseidon again. There are also some interesting revelations in this book. Some have to do with Daniel and Serai, but another was confirmation that we have suspected before….Serai tells them that priests do not have to be celibate, as they are stronger magic users when they have been through the soul-meld…Great news for Alaric and Quinn.

This has been a great read and a fun series. Loved every single one of the books, and can’t wait for Heart of Atlantis….and Quinn and Alaric….May, 2012 seems so long to wait.

Serai was part of a small group of young Atlantean women who were ‘persuaded’ to be put in stasis for the good of their future. She was destined to marry the King of their people. However, while in and out of a semi state of consciousness, she was trapped for over eleven thousand years! That is until the stone that holds the women in stasis starts to loose its grip. Serai takes this opportunity to free herself from her enslavement. She has discovered that her proposed husband has married another woman and never bothered to awaken any of her or the other women! Enraged by her imprisonment and at his callousness (she never wanted to marry him anyway), she is determined to free the other maidens from their imprisonment. However, she discovers that the stone that holds them is unstable and if it isn’t found soon, it will kill her and the rest of her friends.

Daniel had one true love, but she died eleven thousand years ago. Now he is weary of life and had decided to meet the sun and death. But he is shocked when on his way to taking his life he is confronted by a woman who looks exactly like his lost love, Serai! Will he take this last chance on life or will he throw it all away?

This was a fabulous storyline. Daniel and Serai have a long unrequited love. Daniel was poor and Serai was destined for a rich, arranged marriage. A lot of misunderstanding and betrayal make for some great reading. I really sympathized with Serai and her rage at being held in stasis and lied to. I also liked how Serai has stayed young but because she is eleven thousand years old she has gained vast power! She blows everyone else away with her magical abilities, and I hope the author will incorporate her skills and ancient knowledge into her future books. I really liked how true Daniel was to Serai even when he thought she was dead. He is a very noble vampire who is tired of trying and I loved that Serai revived his will to live and fight. The villains in this story really had me wanting them crushed and I enjoyed how the author handled them.
Admirable and sympathetic main characters plus an absorbing plot make this a book a keeper.

Great paranormal romance with an action plot. Some series are like TV sitcoms, they go stale rather quickly. Not this one! Alyssa Day manages to give each book its own fresh view of the world while moving the series story arc along and resolving the main story line.

The hero is Daniel who has played an enigmatic role through several of the previous books. We've known him by several names [Daniel/Devon/Drakos/Demetrios] and in several roles - most recently he had become the vampire head of state. Our story starts with him telling them all to shove it and going out to meet the sun in the middle of the reflecting pool on the Washington DC mall... Good plan until SOMEONE interfered and smacked him clear to Atlantis.

Those who have been following the series know that somewhere in Atlantis lies a vault of ancient, sleeping maidens who were put into stasis 11000 years ago to be married off to Atlantean Royals as needed. [This was a very big issue in the first book as the heroine was neither Atlantean or even a maiden and Conlan fell in love with her anyway.] Our heroine is Serai, one of these maidens, rudely yanked into the here-and-now by the malfunctioning Emperor gem - yet another of the gems Atlantis needs before it can rise above the waves. More importantly, the gem is harming the remaining [still sleeping] maidens and hurting her as well. She flees Atlantis with the help of the Portal [which now has a presence and an over-the-top verbal attitude] and Daniel who materializes at her feet. Seems she and Daniel were in love with each other back in the old, still-above-the-waves Atlantis - and both had been told the other was dead. Talk about an ages old, long unrequited love! Can a vampire mage and an Atlantean princess find happiness while tracking down the missing gem, fighting off other vampires, witches, and the paranormal ops troops? And then figure out how to use the gem to save the remaining maidens? Sure they can...

Another big change of scene in this book, most of it is set in and around the red rock country of Sedona, Arizona. Poseidon makes an appearance towards the end of the book and makes it REALLY clear he doesn't like the area at all.

There are some real bombshells laid on the story arc which are obviously setups for the next book. Serai makes it clear that priests don't have to be celibate, in fact are stronger magic users when they are balanced within the soul-meld. Big news for Alaric and Quinn. The Portal informs the warriors in Atlantis that no one can assist Serai and Daniel because they are being 'tested' and refuses to transport anyone out of Atlantis. Daniel gives over being Primus to Nicholas; another 'bad' vampire who seems to be trying make changes from within. Then Alaric, Quinn and tiger Jack disappear when supposedly on their way back to Atlantis...

Daniel and Serai can barely believe that the other one is there in front of their face’s, after eleven thousand years both thought the other was dead. Serai doesn’t have much time to marvel that Daniel is right there in front of her, she has to get out of Atlantis and she has to get out of it NOW! She has to track down the Emperor. Someone is misusing its power and it is killing Serai and her sisters. There is no way that Daniel is going to let Serai go now that he has found her, even if that means they die on this quest together.

Review:
This is an excellent book in the Warriors of Poseidon series, once I picked this book up and started reading I did not put it down until it was done! This is a more emotional story than past books, however there is still plenty of action but it is more of a story of redemption. Daniel's whole existence has been about atoning for the first years of being a vampire when he was all about killing and maiming. Now that he has found Serai he knows he doesn’t deserve her, she is all that is light and good and he has done horrible things in his past but he still wants her. He would only leave her side if she was to ask him to and then he would even if it killed him. His devotion to Serai is of epic proportions, for eleven thousand years he has loved her. I’ve read a lot of books and I don’t think I have read one before that spanned eleven thousand years. I can’t even fathom that amount of time. All those years in stasis Serai thought about Daniel, each year when she was brought to consciousness he was her first thought, but she thought he is long dead. All these years she had some regret for the decision she made that night, but she knew she had to give him the chance at another life. But now she has a second chance with Daniel, but she has a very dangerous quest she has to complete first. Serai feels like she has to save her sisters in stasis. She knows she is the only one that can find it. She feels the pull from the jewel, if she doesn’t get to the Jewel and soon she knows she will die and in fact does.

The vampire Daniel (a.k.a. Drakos and Devon) takes the lead this time. For years he's thought his first love, Serai of Atlantis, was dead. Daniel is lucky. He's been given a second chance. Will he make the most of it or will he allow his "low born" ingrained low self-esteem get in the way and screw things up?

Serai, formerly - as in eleven thousand years ago - promised to the Atlantean High Priest as his wife, has been awakened out of stasis by the Emperor stone. Her first thoughts are of Daniel, her first love forbidden as it was with her being a high born princess. She grieves for him, thinking he abandoned her to her fate.

There is a lot of witty, humorous banter that had me just cackling (southern for "laughing out loud uproariously") such as (both from Serai):
"I believe it is an imbalance in the male brain. They name it testosterone in this time. In mine, we merely called it stupidity."
"There's something for her memorial. Didn't die naked."

Day's characters are so well written they come alive. The reader feels like they could actually interact with them. The young thirteen year old character of Ian is just a priceless gem. Who else would have the gumption to make demands of and to call the evil scary vampire "Dude"?

There is a shocking "Nuh un!! No way!!!" moment in the book that had me wailing out loud, "Noooooooo, he hasn't had his story told yet!" but, whew!, that was close. There is also another burgeoning romance, perhaps in a future story it will be explored. And to make a reference to "Linux"? Be still my programmer's heart.

The story starts out strong for the first 5 pages, but I must confess the next 40 or so pages had me somewhat struggling to continue to read. But then, on page 49, the story begins to be infused with humor and becomes much more like the Warriors of Poseidon series books I know and love.

If you haven't read the rest of the series yet, no worries. You can start here and then go back to the others without any problems.

Fans of paranormal romance, urban fantasy and vampires should enjoy this story.

I have to say that after the last two books in the Warriors of Poseidon series, this one pales in comparison. While still a good story, at times the dialogue between the main characters or other Atlantean warriors felt choppy and forced. Likewise, it took me a long time to warm up to the romance between Daniel and Serai. I didn't hate this installment like I have the last few. In fact, I rather enjoyed reading about Daniel and Serai! (I even got my wish and was pleasantly surprised by the intellectual dialogue found here!!!!!) Daniel being the 11,000 year old vampire ally to the Atlantians and Serai being one of the maidens trapped in crystal stasis for 11,000 years waiting to be married off to a prince for breeding.

I'm glad that the story finally came back to some of these characters, I was really starting to...more I didn't hate this installment like I have the last few. In fact, I rather enjoyed reading about Daniel and Serai! (I even got my wish and was pleasantly surprised by the intellectual dialogue found here!!!!!) I'm glad that the story finally came back to some of these characters, I was really starting to wonder if they would ever let those poor girls out of their cages. I did find the way Serai and the other 'maidens'(virgins) were fed information over all the years they were frozen to be a bit too convenient for my taste, but I'm not going to dwell on it.

I do have some strong sympathy feels for Daniel and they just grew with this book. He's a vampire and has had to do SOOOOO many bad things to get to the point where he could do some good, but everyone around him forgets all that and snubs him for being a blood drinking individual. People sure are racists....

I sort of loved the romance going on between the two, probably because it wasn't insta-love like EVERYONE else in these books. It lasted through 11,000 years and they had to sort of fall back into love with each other again after so long apart, it was a bit touching. I really liked how Serai trusted Daniel with her life from the moment she saw him again. It was refreshing to read about total trust in the person they love instead of the "this person could never love me" bullshit. Don't get me wrong, Daniel still suffered some of that, but on a much smaller scale then the Atlantean jack-holes, and in a more realistic way.

So, of all the things that I liked in this story, there were a few things that I really didn't enjoy at all.

First was the name of the stone, The Emperor. It took me 1/3 of the book to realize people were talking about a ROCK and not a PERSON. I don't like feeling as though I'm an idiot, and that right there definitely did it for me.

Second, after the fourth or fifth time someone got all pissy over Serai's 'honor' I was pretty fed up. Because an 11,000 year old woman can't make her own mind and bed who she wants, right?

Third, trying to form TWO more relationships in this book was a bit much to undertake considering this installment is less than 350 pages. I wasn't really drawn to either of them and sort of felt like it was just some filler she needed to make the book a bit longer... Which leads me to my next point.

I didn't think that the point of view of the soldiers from P-Ops was necessary whatsoever. I felt like it wasted a couple scenes and took me out of the story.

Finally, while I enjoy a happy ending I was not at all pleased with how this book ended. It was incredibly rushed and a bit too convenient... Maybe if she hadn't put in so many useless chapters she would have been about to tie things up more elegantly....(less)

Probably my favorite so far. Daniel has been around since the early books in this series and one had to wonder why he was so helpful. Turns out he really shouldn't have been, or maybe he should. Best book in the series so far. The love between the hero and heroine was there from the beginning and just grew throughout the book. The story line was interesting and kept my interest through the entire book.

Fist off I love Alyssa and I love this series, but I simply could not stand Serai, she drove me nuts. I really could not stand the way she constantly jumped to conclusions especially about the Atlantian men (whom I love). Alyssa Day takes the reader on a vampire/Atlantian adventure. Novel is well written. Most readers of her work will enjoy this novel. If you have never read her work, then start with book one, otherwise this book will be a little off to follow. You'll need to start with the first novel in this series in order to properly follow the plot and actions going on around these two characters who after 11,000 years find each other again and bond for all eternity.

If there was ever a better titled book for me than VAMPIRE IN ATLANTIS, I haven’t heard it. I’m obsessed with Plato’s fabled island (I have an entire section of my bookshelf devoted to books about it) and I live and breath vampires. In Day’s Warriors of Poseidon series, Atlantis still exists safely under the sea, it’s warriors charged by Poseidon to protect humanity and recover the stones from his trident to raise Atlantis once again.

In VAMPIRE IN ATLANTIS, 90% of the story takes place in Arizona with vampire Daniel and mage Serai searching for a powerful Atlantean stone that Seria is bound to. I did wish that more of the story had taken place in Atlantis, although I’m sure that’s true of the previous books. The quest is as much about a second chance at love for Daniel and Seria after lies separated them for millennia, as it was about recovering the stone. They fell sweetly in love once and were torn away from each other. The romance that rekindles when they are reunited displays just how deep that initial love was. There are thankfully very little misunderstanding obstacles to overcome, just insecurity and feelings of unworthiness that I found endearing on both sides.

Yes, there are six previous books in this series that I haven’t read (yet), and yes, there are lots of characters who pop up from those books, but rather than feeling like I was missing crucial back story, I’m just motivated to go back and read them all (especially Justice’s story in ATLANTIS UNLEASHED). There are also two other new romances in the book that spark to life, possibly to be further explored in future books.

Overall, VAMPIRE IN ATLANTIS is full of strong, fierce warriors to whom honor is a part of their souls. The women they love are no less impressive adding their own strength and courage to the battles they face. Specifically, Daniel and Seria’s love story is as passionate and romantic as I could hope for. I’d still like to spend more time in Atlantis, and the story might have had a better pace with a few less side plots and POVs, but I’m looking forward to the next Warriors of Poseidon book, HEARTS OF ATLANTIS, which will be published on January 3, 2012, and to catching up on the previous books in the meantime.

OK back to what I expect from the Warriors of Poseidon books. Good not great. The two characters had chemistry, the plot was good. There was definite humor, perhaps the most humorous of the series for me. The problem, the wrap up was a little forced/contrived.

There were just parts I had issue with that made it just good, not great.

Serai was a young Atlantean woman who was put in stasis for the good of the race and to protect the future of Atlantis. When she was awakened she was supposed to marry the King. However, she was trapped for over eleven thousand years only having occasional times of semi-consciousness. When the stone that holds the women in stasis starts to fluctuate in power causing Serai to come fully awake. Serai takes this opportunity to free herself and vows to do everything she can to free the other women. When she discovers that Conlan, her proposed husband, has married a human woman and never bothered to awaken her or the other women she is enraged. However, she discovers that the stone that holds them is in the hands of a dark witch and if it isn’t found soon, it will kill her and the rest of the women.

Daniel is an eleven thousand year old vampire and he is weary of life and has decided to meet the sun and true death. But just as the sun is rising he is sucked into Atlantis only to find the only woman he has ever loved and who he thought died all those years ago. Daniel vows to help Serai free the other maidens even if he can never have a life with her.

This is another strong installment in the WoP series. This is a book about redemption but there is also plenty of action. Daniel has been one of the most intriguing characters all along and I was very glad to see that he got a book of his own. The more I learned about Daniel the more I liked him and thought Serai was a great match for him. Serai is another strong heroine which is something that Ms. Day is very good at writing.I was also glad to finally see something about the maidens that had been put into stasis, this was a plot thread that I had been wondering about since the first book.

This book seemed to have a lot more sub-plot action going on than in others and you as a reader can feel that we are getting ready for something big to happen. And while this is true there were still some moments in this book that made me laugh and helped balance out a lot of the drama. The addition of some new strong and interesting secondary character's gives me hope that this series still has plenty of action to come.
I give Vampire in Atlantis 4 chocolate dipped strawberries and a cake.(cause lets face if if I had been in stasis for 11,000 years the first thing I would want is cake.)(less)

Another sequel I had been looking forward to reading and excited to slip right back into. It was interesting to have the main male lead not be one of the warriors from Atlantis, and I was excited to get to know Daniel a bit better. His reunion with Serai happened very quickly, but still flowed well once the book got going. I have been waiting Daniel's book for what seems like forever. I am a HUGE fan of this series and Daniel was a favorite character of mine since the beginning. It was worth the wait, every agonizing second of it. Daniel has spent most of his vampiric life trying to atone for what he sees as his failures, the cross all noble heroes seem to bear. It is an admirable trait, but to paraphrase another favorite character of mine (shout out to the BDB) "Get off the cross, someone else needs the wood". Thankfully a pissed off Serai is just what he needs to smack him upside his "oh, so noble" head. Yeah, Serai is pissed, and with good reason. She was only 25 when put in stasis. (very young for an Atlantean) She knew her intended, Conlan, had married a human. Not that she loved Conlan, but still, she had waited millenia for him. When she escapes, Conlan wants to pull the kingly ruler card and order her back to Atlantis. She laid the verbal smack down on his butt and went about her merry way. My girl, Serai was channeling Sasha Fierce and taking no prisoners. She is woman, hear her roar.

Of course Alaric played a role in this book, along with his lady love Quinn. There are some major developments in their story line involving Jack (who really MUST have his own book). Lots of new characters and storylines evolving and making me anticipate the next book. There's even a guy with a regenerating hand *snort* I get so caught up in the story, I don't realize there's only a few pages left, and then I panic. This story had every emotional element known to man, love, lust, anger, hatred, laughter and joy and tear jerking sorrow. Yes, you might need a tissue or two. I can't recommend this series highly enough, and the Warriors of Poseidon are among the elite in romance heroes. Kudos to Ms. Day for a job well done.

I have always loved Daniel from the very beginning.There was always something about him. His ever changing names to to different roles that he play throughout the books. He was one of the men/vampires I couldn't quite pin down.

This story was amazing! Daniel is truly one of my favorite characters of this series. Day brings you not only love, but misunderstanding and betrayal. How everything plays out makes it a wonderfully fantastic read that I couldn't bring myself to put down. The characters jumped off the page and into my heart. I don't think I can say enough of how much I loved this story. The emotions that came with the characters was truly deep and had wondering who in the heck is behind all of stories. I loved how she brought back the characters for the earlier books. It was nice to re visit with them. Oh and let me mention you get more of the High Priest everyone has been dying for?!? Squeeee!!!!

The next Warriors of Poseidon series is set to release in 2012 and is called Heart of Atlantis. Finally the tension between the High Priest and Quinn will be answered hopefully. If you haven't started this series, I seriously suggest you do so. I mean if you don't believe me ask Tori over at Smexybooks. This series will keep you intrigued and well invested in. One of the problems with having a favorite author is having high expectations. Alyssa Day's Warriors of Poseidon series was my first paranormal read ever. Serai was cool. Finally, someone to tell the guys to back off and quit with the posturing long enough to see that someone other than their sword wielding holiness can do something. :P
Nicholas, Ivy and Ian were good together. I hope Nicholas takes over as Primus. I wonder how that's going to work if he does and if Conlan will work with him? Hmmm...

Imagine being 11000 years old, going to "sleep" in your your 20's and awaking in the present. Then finding out within hours of waking & escaping that you and your 11000 year old love basically get to ssave the world in the next few days.
