Matthew Halkett, Earl of Blodswell, and vampyre sees Rhiannon in the park and is entranced by her. He finds himself more than attracted to the woman and escorts her home. Of course she’s staying at her fellow witches house and that witch is married to a Lycan who is quite protective of her and doesn’t like the vampyre at all.

I’ve been looking forward to this offshoot of Lydia Dare’s Westfield Brothers series. I didn’t really know what to expect, just that vampyres are being introduced into the mix. Unfortunately, I missed reading the first book in this new series, so I’m not sure if that has somehow dampened my enjoyment of this book , if it’s something else entirely, or perhaps a combination of both.

While the majority of my disappointment in this story is more than like a combo, the main sticking point fo More...

MY TAKE: Lydia Dare is an author who has been on my radar for a while. She has created a fascinating world using ingredients from two of my favorite romance sub-genres: historicals and paranormals. I love that in The Heat of the Bite we have the background setting of Regency England and the unsuspecting ton populated with vampires and werewolves - in nob's clothing!

Matthew and Rhiannon are quite the pair. Spark More...

I really do not know why I put off reading all of these great romance books that I've had on my shelves. They have all been so good and this one was certainly not a disappointment. Matthew intrigued me when we first saw him in It Happened One Bite so I was excited to hear this book was focusing on him. He truly is a knight in shining armor even if he's left his armor back home but as is usual of our tortured heroes he feels that Rhiannon deserves better since he will never grow old and cannot More...

What a fun book!

One fiery Scot witch with lightning at her fingertips,
A sexy 600-year-old vampyre with scruples,
A newly born vampyre who’s trying the patience of his maker,
A pack of unruly Lycans,
A nasty Aunt bent on ruining the Scot witch and lining her pockets by *selling* her youngest sister,
An older but still feisty Duchess with a penchant for interference and brandy,

Throw them all into the pot and you have a funny but engaging stor More...

2 ½ out of 5

“The storm clouds lifted. The rain stopped. She glanced down at her drenched dress, which now hugged her body like a second skin, and crossed her arms in front of her chest. And that was when he realized it. She was caught by the storm. She was the storm. Saint George’s teeth! She was a force to be reckoned with. She was one of them.”

The second book of Lydia Dare’s Regency Vampyre Series picks up shortly after the conclusion of It Happened One Bite (review HERE) with Matthew Halkett, the Earl of Blodswell, discovering Coig Witch, Rhiannon Sinclair in the middle of a self-made rain storm. Blodswell, a 650-year-old vampyre, is a valiant knight with a history significant with the Coig, and was a featured prominently in the last Regency story as the maker of Lord Kettering. This is the second in Dare's Regency Vampyre trilogy which is a spinoff from her Regency Werewolves trilogy. Some of the werewolves make an appearance much to the dismay of the vampryes but not to the witches who love them.

Matthew, Earl of Blodswell, was a knight who fought with Richard the Lionheart before being reborn a vampyre on the battlefield 600+ years ago. While he is thrilled his protege of 200+ yrs found his mate in the first book of the series, he finds himself lonely and en More...

Looking for a wonderful Regency romp with a paranormal flair? Others have tried, but Lydia Dare is the Queen of Regency paranormals!

Nowhere is her deft touch more evident than in her telling the story of Rhiannon and Matthew in In The Heat of the Bite. This book is a pure delight from the first witchy storm in Hyde Park, through Matthew’s befuddlement (despite being 900 years old, women are still so very impossible to understand!) and a perfectly lovely HEA.

This was book 2 of The Gentlemen Vampyre series and I enjoyed it as much as the first one, It Happened One Bite. Rhiannon has come to ton because her Aunt Greer has brought her sister Ginny to ton to introduce her to society and hopefully arrange a marriage for her. Rhiannon is slightly jealous as her aunt has never had anything good to say about her (not that she has much good to say about anyone)- as she is a witch and all. Rhiannon is suspicious of her Aunt's intentions, so she doesn't int More...

This is my first Lydia Dare novel - and I love the mix between historical and paranormal, two of my favorite romance genres!

Well, 3/4ers of the way through the book and I've decided that a love of mixes doesn't necessarily produce a good book! This one is ridiculous, populated by a cast of ridiculous characters that constantly interfere in each other's lives. And if it wasn't for their interference, there wouldn't be a plot or any type of action to drive the story. Rhiannon is a hot More...

When Matthew Halkett sees Rhiannon Sinclair for the first time she is in the heart of a thunderstorm. Being the Knight that he is - he races to save her. Rhiannon finds this laughable, because she doesn't need saving - she is the storm.

There are few men of the ton who could claim to being a knight in shining armor – however Matthew Halkett, Earl of Blodswell was just that – before he was turned into a vampire 650 years ago. So naturally, when he saw a damsel in distress in the midst of a furious storm in Hyde Park, he did what was required and rushed to her aid. However, the damsel was not in distress, rather Rhiannon Sinclair was a witch who could control the weather and she was having a real “hissy” fit while reveling in t More...

Lydia Dare – the combo team – brings us the 2nd in the Regency Vampire trilogy which links to their Westfield Wolves series. I have said it before with Dare, as soon as I crack it open, I can’t put it down.

The historical paranormal romance has to be a weak spot for me, and Dare nails it every time. Dare’s 1800’s outlook, matched with independent women characters equals a great combination. Probably the funniest moments for me is the ‘compromising’ situations they end up in. Dare’s boo More...

My summary of the book - Rhiannon has come to London to find her sister and make sure she is ok but during one of her angry storms she meets Matthew and their lives change forever. When they meet again Rhiannon manages to make a scene with her powers and his own abilities seem to be affected her as well. They manage to make a scandal and they have to spend time together to rectify the scandal and make Rhiannon's reputation good again.

Thoughts on the characters - Rhiannon is unsure o More...

In the second book of the new Regency Vampyre Trilogy, we have Matthew (or better known as Blodswell) and Rhiannon's story. Rhi is in London to support her sister Ginny's first season and Blodswell lives there. When Blodswell see's Rhi in the midst of a storm she's conjured up, he is instantly taken by her. She, on the other hand, is not a big fan of vampyres due to a bit of bad history where she was attacked by one.

I admit that after reading "It Happened One Bite," I was kind of wondering what all the hubbub was about surrounding the author. But after reading this book, I now understand! My thoughts:

This book is a part of a series but you can read it as a standalone. But if you really want to dive into this world then I recommend the 4 Westfield Wolves books first to get to know our dear lycans and witches. But this series of course belong to the vampires.

He was turned vampyre during the crusades and gifted with a magical ring by 5 Coig witches after he saved one of their lives. This ring allows him to go out during the day and to retain much of his humanity. Rhiannon is a member of the current Coig coven; she has extraordinary powers which allow her More...

I was a little disappointed in this book. Given "clues" in the previous book of the series, It Happened One Bite, I assumed the heroine for the next novel would be Sorcha, the youngest witch in the coven. When I learned the heroine would be Rhiannon, I was quite surprised, simply because we the reader don't know much about her, other than her magical abilities concerning the weather. Turns out, she had a lot to deal with: neglectful father, younger sister, hateful aunt.
