4.5 out of 5. A complicated, engaging story that is a continuation of the Shadow Wranglers series. As I had not read the first two books in the series I was somewhat lost when encountering ideas and happenings and characters that were carry-overs. That being said, it was a delightful read for anyone who likes paranormal romance and who is a Sarah McCarty fan. It might be characterized as a love-lost-love-found kind of story, but there is far more to it than that. Embracing the tensions that have...more

Third in the Shadow Wranglers series. Jace is one of the Johnson brothers, vampires who are slowly making their their presence known, and who have set themselves apart from the evil vampire scientists at Sanctuary. Jace has mated with Miri but is unaware of all of the rules of pack behavior and does not realize her position within her werewolf pack of Tragallions. Her unwise decision to flee after he leaves her results in her being tortured and their daughter being removed from her care. Jace mu...more

Paranormal Western –May 3rd, 2011
4 ½ stars

Jace is the third in the vampire series called the Shadow Wranglers about brothers who are vampires.

Jace is a powerful vampire who longs for his pregnant mate, Mori. She left him and disappeared. Since then he has been searching for her. Now Jace has finally found Mori and is determined to never let her leave him again! But Mori has changed from the carefree werewolf that he knew. When she was kidnapped, she was ‘experimented’ on by...more

This is a book about love and heartbreak, about losing oneself and finding oneself again because of the love of one’s mate. It is also an exciting story about what happens if an Alpha female werewolf mates with a vampire and they return to her pack, which has been almost destroyed by the greed of it’s leader who did not care for his pack properly. That leader is now dead so Jace is appointed Alpha of the pack, despite the fact he is a vampire, not a werewolf. There is controversy and tension abo...more

The third story in this series. Jace and Miri have been separated by a horrible tragedy. Jace left Miri to fight in the civil war and promised to come back. Miri finds herself enslaved and horrible experimentation by the Sanctuary. Now a year later Jace finally rescues her but she has lost hope for their relationship. Now all she wants is for him to find their little girl that Sanctuary has stolen before it is to late for her.
This is the tramatic story of what happens to Miri after Sanctuary. Th...more

I started reading this book and it was like being dropped into the middle of a story already started. I realize this is a series but this is definitely not a stand-alone story. Jace rescues Miri from the Sanctuary after searching for her for a year and then they must find their daughter. There is so much small talk throughout the book that when they do find their daughter in about the last ten pages, it is almost an afterthought. I like werewolves and vamps but I am crossing this series of my li...more

I'm afraid I'm going to piss some readers off with this review.
I did not like this book, the fact that Miri was rescued where she had been raped and tortured and gods only know what else left a sour taste in my mouth. Jace was the only saving grace for the book, he was a wonderful hero with so muc love in him it broke my heart. He gave up everything for Miri and in the end I just don't think she fully comprehended it, she was a distant and broken herione.

A continuation of the Shadow Wrangler books. The story of Jace and Miri. Jace is a vampire while Miri is a werewolf. They get together and Miri gets pregnant. Then Miri is captured by the Sanctuary that wants to do experiments and torture on her. Her baby is taken away and Miri remains in captivity for a year. Then Jace finds her but she is not the same. The rest of the story is the two of them trying to rebuild trust and finding their baby.

I actually enjoyed this one.
This is old school McCarty, heavy on the emotion and occasional smexy.
And the world is actually interesting and reasonably drawn out. (Which as much as I loved the old EC books, this is a new thing for SM)

Though it is definitely heavily borrowed from her Others series which was started in EC back in the day.
Tho it not a re-write, there is just recognisable elements and/or character traits.

If you've never read the previous novels in this series, the first fifty to one hundred pages are going to be confusing; they were for me. The story wasn't that great, more complicated than anything. I don't think I'll read anymore of her books, but Jace did keep me enthralled from beginning to end. If that's all you're looking for in a book then its great. Story was not up to par with other paranormal romances I have read.

I liked this book, but I had serious trouble getting into it with the way the beginning just dumps into the middle of a situation. I love McCarty's Promises series, but her habit of starting a book in the middle of a situation makes them feel a bit incomplete.

That minor problem aside, I was not disappointed with 'Jace'. The story kept me reading beyond the rough start and just got better and better!

After being kidnapped for over a year Jace gets Miri back. The woman he finds is not the woman he knew, but still one he wants. Jace treads carefully around the new fragile Miri, but still doesn't put up with any crap from her. Miri bucks things with Jace, but slowly sees that she can trust Jace again after seeing him keep one promise after another to her and his family.

Jace's frustrations with Miri seem to roll off his back. Her answer for issues that come that he is not a were drive him crazy...more

I really loved this book. There's a lot of emotion going on in this and that was really superb. I think so far that Jace is my fav of all the men. And Miri, she is just so unbelievable strong and i felt every emotion pouring off of her.
I do wish we had heard more of Derek and his situation. Perhaps that'll come up in the last book.
Very much looking forward to Slade's book and his way of getting his woman.

Finally we get to see Jace's reunion with Miri. The author does a very good job of showing, rather than telling, the reaons for their behavior in the past and during this story. Loved to see the resolution but thought it a bit easy, after all the build-up. It was good to get glimpses of Caleb and Jared, too.

Love this series, the combination of cowboy and vampire does it for me!

I really enjoyed this story in the series. I liked seeing the earlier characters. I really liked Jace. He was such a romantic sweetheart who wasn't afraid to say how he felt. I also liked Miri and thought she was written extremely well and was such a complicated person. I'm never thrilled when kids are involved in violent stories, and they are a bit in this one so be warned. The plot was very suspenseful and moved quickly. The steam factor was unfortunately a bit light in this one.

It has been a long time since I last read from this series. Thank goodness the story is written so well, it's as if I just finished the last one yesterday. All the characters are essentially reintroduced, but not in a redundant way...simply as part of the story. Jace and Miri are great. Jace the tough and stubborn vampire and Miri the were-vampire. After a long and horrific kidnapping by the Sanctuary, Jace was finally able to rescue Miri. While that was a great reunion there was another that ne...more

3.5-4 stars. This was a good book by Sarah McCarty, but I didn't love it as much as her Promise series. Jace is actually the 3rd in this series, and I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had started with the first and read them in order.

This is a really great book. It covers vampires and werewolves living in the country in current times with quite a few hang ups from being over 200 years old. This was second in a set of three.

This one didn't hold my attention quiet as well as the other two did. Maybe it was just me, though. It was not a bad addition to the series, though.

The latest Shadow Wranglers Texas fantasy is an intriguing tale due to Miri's doubts and hesitations towards her soulmate who had treated her with love and respect before she was abused. That element brings a psychological reality to a complex story line containing several subplots and a seemingly horde of paranormal Texans. Series fans will enjoy the reunion of Jace and Mira; as the tough vampire must go slow and be tender and nurturing with his beloved emotionally fraught, fragile and forlorn...more

Not sure why I'm continuing to read this series. I just looked back and I haven't rated any of them higher than a 3. The story lines are long and drawn out. The passion is luke warm. The plots seem to be repeats over and over. So basically what I think I'm saying is that this is a good series to read when you are caught up on all the really good ones and need something new. But I would never choose this over a Lora Leigh, Jaci Burton, Stephanie Laurens, or Larissa Ione. These books are just too...more

Well, this one wasn't as good I as I was hoping it was going to be but was still good. Miri got on my nerves for a bit but she got better. She did go through a rough time of things. I'm actually quite surprised that the fact that she was raped again and again by different vampire's wasn't addressed more. I suppose we were supposed to understand that she was a strong woman. Anyway, I wanted more focus on that. Also, when they did finally find their daughter it was the very end and there just wasn...more

Jace was the first in this series of shifters, which was a surprise to me. Good story, but not my usual fare.

Awesome book as all the others.

This is a vampire series with a difference and with fascinating story lines and characters I really care about.
Jace is third of four brothers who are vampires and who live by their own set of values, including joining up with a werewolf pack for protection in their independence from other vampires.
Vampires who are cowboys? Another reason for reading this series.
