She was the forewoman of the jury who acquitted a dangerous killer due to lack of evidence, now he's returning the favor by developing a twisted crush on her...

This is the first book by Ms. Brown I've read so far and I was pleasantly surprised by how it turned out. These "first reads" are hit and miss and this one was definitely a hit.

Nicely developed plot, well-executed and well-paced, despite a few slow moments here and there. Though the "romance" between Rennie and Wick lacked a few sparks, I...more
This suspense novel reads more like a Harlequin Romance gone worse (I didn't say "bad" because they are already bad). Laced with only-to-be heard in smaltzy movie one liners, the book is so predictable from the first chapter that you may actually think there is a twist at the end (there isn't). Crush is about a relationship between the broken cop and a troubled trauma surgeon and their banning together to fight an evil killer. It's kind of like a Bugs Bunny episode without the humor and animatio...more
Dr. Rennie Newton, a skilled surgeon, is the foreman of the jury that acquits psychotic professional assassin Ricky Lozada of murder because of reasonable doubt. Unfortunately for Rennie, Lozada becomes infatuated with the pretty doctor during the trial and convinces himself that she returns his affections. So after his acquital Lozada decides to pursue a relationship with Rennie. He sends her flowers, stalks her, and goes so far as "to do her the favor" of murdering a rival doctor. Rennie becom...more
This was a phenominal read!!

I finished this book since writing the below... that is to say, I finished *with* this book. It is one of the rare books I really couldn't finish reading...toward the end, I realized I just really didn't care what happened so I moved on.

I'm not quite finished with this book, but so far it reads like just about every cop show I've ever seen on television - only worse. I'm not feeling much sympathy for the main character, Rennie. I like the renegade ex-cop, Wick, and his former partner, Oren, and...more
Dr. Rennie Newton & Wick Threadgill, who used to be a cop. Rennie's coworker (a doctor/friend Lee Howel) was killed and she became a suspect. 6 month earlier, she was a jury that acquited a famous hired killer, Ricky Roy Lozada. Wick was brought back from his beach house by his former partner, Oren Wesley to assist in solving the dead doctor's murder case. Wick started surveillance on Rennie and he also saw her in person. He lied to her about his career. Lozada has weird obsession with Renni...more

I would give this book 3 1/2 stars but it was nice quick read and I loved the suspense and figuring out the mystery. I have not read a book like this in awhile and I had never read a Sandra Brown novel.

Rennie is a surgeon who finds herself in the midst of a murder investigation and the object of affection of a murder-for-hire psychopath. Wick is an ex-cop who is called in by his old partner Oren to help in the investigation of the murder which may have been committed by the same psychopath who...more

This audiobook by Simon & Schuster is supposed to be an Abridged version but I noticed that as I listened, the story was following the unabridged ebook exactly, unlike the abridged audio version of Karen Rose'sYou Can't Hide which is very clearly(and disappointingly abridged!). This audiobook is 5 hours+ - one third shorter than many of SB's usual books, which is why I'm wondering whether the ebook I was fol...more
I LOVED IT. So addictive, it's not even funny.

"The Crush" was a great story. I've only read a Sandra Brown book once before and I do not recall being disappointed, and for "The Crush" I felt the same.

Set in Texas, the story is about a surgeon, Dr. Rennie Newton, whom having acquitted a well-known murderer, Ricky Roy Lozada, becomes the object of his unwanted affection. As a result, two officers, Oren Wesley and Wick Threadgill, of the Fort Worh PD, are on the hunt for Lozada, who proves to be a slick and smooth criminal. He leaves no traces...more
Who would have thought that doing your civic duty and serving on a jury would put you in danger? Dr. Rennie Newton served on a jury who under her leadership and thoroughness decides to acquit a contract killer, Ricky Lozado. Unfortunately, as a vain man with a very large ego, Lozado has decided that he was aquited because Dr. Newton likes him.

When Dr. Newton's colleague is murdered, she becomes a suspect in his murder. It is then that Dr. Newton's carefully sturctured life begins to unravel. At...more
This is probably the 10th Sandra brown book I have read this month and you think by now I would be getting sick of them. I'll acknowledge that there are many common or formulated elements in her writing such a a murder, the heroine is usually under suspicion for the murder and the male lead is often an investigator of sorts. However even acknowledging this I still can't help but love them. I think I have already said in previous reviews how Sandra brown is a bit of a guilty pleasure and a pleasu...more
3-1/2 Stars

I listened to the unabridged audiobook narrated by Tom Wopat. Yes, that Tom Wopat...from "The Dukes of Hazzard". Kind of a surprising choice of reader for what is essentially a romantic suspense/thriller, but let me say, he does a very good job. His female voices could have been better, but I think that is probably true of most male readers. I don't mind so much when the female characters in the book don't say a ton, but in this book Rennie has a significant amount of lines and his vo...more

Konflik buku ini cuman seputar Dr. Rennie Newton, dokter bedah andal yang terpaksa berurusan dg pihak kepolisian krn rekannya dibunuh dan dia dicurigai sbg tersangka krn mempnyai motif utk membunuh. pelaku sebenarnya si...more
This is the second book by Sandra Brown I've read, and whilst I enjoyed his one as much as the previous one, I can see a pattern emerging. There's a the strong, independent woman who is suddenly targeted violent man. This man kills someone who is close to the woman, involving the police. Our other main character, a former cop with a disregard for the rules, who is often quire vulgar but still an attractive womaniser. Whilst they cross paths trying to find the killed, love ensues.

Whilst there we...more

This was one of Sandra Brown's best thrillers/suspense stories.

The plot she wove for Rennie and Wick was so believable, I found myself wanting to sleep with the lights on for a long time.

Sandra Brown is an excellent storyteller and I never get tired of what she writes. I have her on my auto-buy plan.

Gak suka sama Wick, karakternya temperamental. Semaunya sendiri, and kayaknya selalu bikin kacau penyelidikan.

Meskipun bukti-buktinya kurang, selama para juri merasa yakin kalo Lozada bersalah, bukannya vonis salah tetap bis...more
This book had a good pace; interesting enough for me to finish it in about 24 hours. It's not really a mystery because you know the bad guy from the very beginning. But the events and characters are engaging enough to make the ride enjoyable. The end had a nice twist, although I eventually figured it out before the final showdown.

On the minus side, the romance/relationship is a little loose between the hero and heroine, not really developed. This is not a book where I really admired the main ch...more
I haven't read Sandra Brown in awhile (no reason, just haven't made my way back to her). This was a good one! Dr. Rennie Newton is the foreman on the jury that acquits notorious killer for hire Ricky Roy Lozada for the murder of some unknown person. The jury felt he most likely had done it, but the state had not proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt. Within days, a professional rival of Rennie's is brutally murdered and she has an unwanted admirer. Wick Threadgill, a detective on personal le...more
Dr. Rennie Newton was the forewoman on a jury the allowed killer Ricky Lozada to go free with a non-guilty verdict. Lozada has a crush on Newton and follows her around, deciding the get rid of any obstacles in his way, literally. Meanwhile, Wick Threadgill is asked to investigate the doctor since they think she is behind the murder of a colleque. Threadgill also has a personal vengeance against Lozada. A reall sick love triangle thing happening here. There is also a little eback story about Newt...more

I'm going between 3 and 4 stars on this one. First off, the guy that narrated this book did a fantastic job!! The voice he did for Lozada just totally creeped me out!

I thought the whole idea of a Juror getting stalked by a man that she helped go free was so easy to happen.

Pretty frightening actually!

The whole story of Detective Wick seemed like I should have read a book before this book so I'd know what was going on better. While they did go over everything that happened eventually it was a bit...more

Love Sandra's books, always thrills, suspense, romance, sensual!!!! She hits you at the end with always a big surprise!!!

Ricky Lozada notorious hit man on trial and Dr. Rennie Newton is on his jury. She delivers the verdict no guilty, but by doing so, this whacko falls in love with her, he believes that she loves him and he's a very dangerous man. Eventually, one of Rennies professional revials is brutally murdered, but she some how she is looked upon as the killer by the cops. Wick Threadgill a...more
Really liked this book, a bit different from her usual scenarios. I liked that there was a truly evil protagonist and the twist at the end was a good surprise. Not as much sex as in other books, but the suspense made up for that.

I recently bought Smash Cuts due to some recommendations here at GR. but think I may put it aside for while to catch up on some other authors as I have been blitzing Sandra Browns books lately and need a break- but not for long.

She is a very readable author, I am pleas...more
whooaaa, one of the best favorite books. The story is about love triangle Dr. Newton, Wick and Lozada. But hold on, Lozada is a criminal and stalker to Dr. Newton. Wick is a good policeman who pursues Lozada. Lozada love Dr. Newton because of she give a vote that help Lozada free from accusation in the court, maybe as love at the first sight. I love this book because Wick is different from the other character men in Sandra Brown. On the contrary, the cool character is found in the woman, Dr.Newt...more

I won't put in a spoiler as each person should read and determine for themselves. That being said, I did have to wrestle through to complete the book, which has not been my previous experience with Sandra Brown novels. Overall the book had a couple unpredictable chapters. Enjoy.
