A young man, grieving his father, turns to his grandfather for solace and guidance. The result is a guidebook on the perseverance necessary to make it through life. When I first picked up this book years ago I needed its message but I never dreamed how much more it would resonate with me in the years to come. Why is life so hard? One of life's toughest questions. Joseph Marshall responds in ways that are illustrated by moving stories that don't take the pain away but help a person to look for the lessons in the journey of life.

This is a wonderful book to read, especially in today's tough times. The story is beautifully told and hopeful, which is what we all need at times -- hope.

A nice book on keeping your chin up when things knock you down. Told through the tales of Native Americans it is a great read about leadership.

A book about dealing with loss and grief. Good messages but nothing really new. Just not what I'm in the mood for at the moment.

Another quick read. This book restates what many other books have said; just from the perspective of a Lakota.

Favorite quotes from the book so far:

"When the storm blows hard you must stand firm, for it is not trying to knock you down, it is really trying to teach you to be strong."

"And always remember that anything that causes the shadow is smaller than the source of the light."
(page 16)

"Strength that comes from adversity does not weaken in the face of adversity." (page 61)

Difficulties are a part of life-but so is the wisdom that helps us overcome them. In "Keep Going", Lakota elder and award winning storyteller Joseph Marshall III offers the unique perspective of his people to remind us that the most important and enduring lessons come through the power of perseverance.
Running time 3 3/4 hours.

This book has great stories included in the overall story and they have great messages. I think between this and others Marshall has probably moved up to be my favorite author.

Looking forward to the comforting words of hope from this book. How to view adversity, not as an affliction, but to make oneself strong against the storm.

This book has brought nothing but a new sense of hope to me. I am currently re-reading it because once I again I find myself lacking of perseverance.

I was hoping for more from this book. It had some good stories in it, but wasn't engaging and enlightening as I'd hoped.
