Life is easy, it's men she'll never figure out...

When hotel manager Daisy MacLean meets cocky sports hero Dev Tyzack, it's a no brainer-stay away. He is arrogant and sarcastic-but also incredibly sexy.

Daisy tries her best to steer clear of him, yet soon comes to realize he is the one guest she can't bear to see leave.

Then she learns a devastating truth: most people are not...more

Goddess Of Blah
Jill Mansell's books (that I have had the misfortune to read) have so far been an insult to any self-respecting intelligent (or even semi-intelligent) audience. All seem to follow the same premise of ultra chick lit trash. Be prepared to lose brain cells when reading her trite, clichéd rubbish.

The heroine is generally naïve and either unsuccessful in her career or from a disadvantaged background. A confirmed sap, she's invariably misunderstood by our dashing rich “hero” - and is usually betrayed...more

This is my second Jill Mansell book and I have such mixed feelings!
On one hand, Staying At Daisy's was funny and sweet and an absolute mood lifter. (An Offer You Can't Refuse was the other book by Jill Mansell that I've read and that put me on edge more so than Staying At Daisy's.) I loved the set up of characters and the balance that was kept in managing them all. Also, while I'm at it;
Marry me, Josh. I love you.
Honestly he was the most decent book character I've ever read. Funny and awesome...more

So, what I've noticed about Jill Mansell after reading several of her books is that she becomes quite predictable after the first two books - as is the case with all romance writers. Her storylines and characters are more or less the same (with different names and titles). There's always the cheating bastard, and the flimsy (usually also cheating) best friend, with a splash of flamboyancy, and an obnoxious, hard to crack hero, and the sweet, insecure heroine. Add to that a few extras - these may...more

Why do I feel like I've read this book before?
Two books in and I feel like I'm beginning a love/hate relationship with Jill Mansell and her books.

I read Daisy's two days after Rumour Has It and there are many similarities. Multiple characters with hints of romance whose stories neatly wrap up to the end, in a way that is expected yet still brings a smile to a book. A heroine, whom I never really feel that I get to know, who keeps men at arms length because she thinks they will break their hear...more

When I want something light, easy and fun to read, Jill Mansell is always a sure bet. Staying at Daisy's was a winner.

Staying at Daisy’s is a very enjoyable British “Chick Lit” novel. Jill Mansell has a unique style of writing that I really enjoy. Her novels bring to life small English villages complete with an entire cast of characters that I grow to love through the course of the novel.

Daisy MacLean manages a manor hotel that her eccentric author father bought in a small English village. Daisy has had a tough time since the death of her husband and is trying to learn to love again. When rugby sports hero Dev...more

My thoughts:

There is a lot going on in this book, not that it becomes messy, but just that more than one person will find love at the end of this sweet book.

First there is Daisy who runs the hotel her father owns. She used to be married to an ass and does not want anything to do with men like that anymore. She is smart, nice, but also wounded. Then there is Dev, the best man at the wedding being held there, he is all those things she does not want, but the attraction is there. Sure he is a bit o...more

Daisy MacLean has just learned that her husband has been in a car accident...and his girlfriend was in the car with him. She also learns that he doesn't have cancer like he told her he did, and agrees to donate his organs for transplant.

A year later, Daisy's still managing her father's hotel, working a wedding. A guest catches the groom in a compromising position with Daisy's friend and employee, Tara. Tara says she didn't do anything, the groom came on to her. The best main blames Tara, but Dai...more

Daisy MacLean runs the country house hotel, owned by her father, Hector. He is a larger than life character and loves to entertain his guests by singing and dancing and getting them to do the same. He has a well-kept, long standing secret, as do many of the characters in this story. History affects the current plot significantly and all of the main characters are wrapped up in interconnected intrigue which leads them to be embroiled in each other’s lives in unusual and unexpected ways.

A paixão anda à solta...
Corram!

In her latest novel, Staying at Daisy’s, Jill Mansell delivers another hilarious and fast-paced romantic comedy. Her combination of endearing and sympathetic lead characters placed in humorous situations wins out again.
This time round, Mansell takes on marital infidelity from the point of view of Daisy MacLean, an unsuspecting wife who invariably receives an unwelcome shock. And from the point of view of Tara who is faced with an ex-boyfriend who professes undying love hours before his wedding....more

Jill Mansell is new to me, but, from evidence in her writing skills, is definitely NOT new to the world of writing. Her quirky characters, her witty plot line, and her all around fantastic skills, kept me hooked and smiling until the very end.

This chick-lit novel takes us to England, among the fabulous accents and friendly natives. I felt right at home from the start at Daisy's hotel. I laughed out loud through this fast but fun read. Daisy is a widow, but her marriage seemed to have been over...more

I have to say that I love all the quirky characters in Jill Mansell's books. Everytime I start one of her novels I find myself staying up late and completely slacking off in the household department until I have read the final page.

In this story we are introduced to Daisy, who not only finds out her husband is unfaithful, but then has to decide whether to donate his kidneys after he is in a fatal automobile accident. The story continues one year later as we follow the exploits of Daisy, her fat...more

An upscale hotel owned by a personable, former children's author, Hector McLean, managed by his daughter, Daisy, formerly and never happily married,is the setting of this novel and effectively sets the stage for certain life changes. Every one of the characters faces different truths about themselves, and most are in a better, much happier place by novels's end. The small village in which the hotel stands is filled with the kinds of people and life I would expect in the Cotswalds. (Bath is a des...more

Jill Mansell continues to be one of the best writers of witty women’s fiction. In Staying at Daisy’s, the hotel business is never dull even in a tourist trap like Colworth, England, particularly if the owner and his daughter are running the show. Daisy is straight-laced and in charge, while her father, Hector, continues to sing and dance with the guests and be the life of the party. Daisy’s best friend Tara, the chambermaid, continues to struggle with her love life and falls into a familiar role...more

This is my first book by Jill Mansell, and I have to say that her cast of fun and quirky characters remind me a lot of my favorite books by Maeve Binchy and Marian Keyes, and not just because they're all from the same side of the Atlantic. Daisy and Dev, Tara and Josh, Hector and Maggie, and Barney and Mel all felt like close and personal friends by the time I finished this novel. Their ups and downs had me completely enthralled. As they did embarrassing things, I cringed. (And then I usually la...more

While I didn't like this book as much as the last Jill Mansell I read it was still cute. It takes place in a hotel that Daisy's dad owns and she runs. After her cheating jerk of a husband dies in a car accident she is moving on with life but her past keeps coming back to haunt her. The guy that received her late husband's kidney (Barney) comes to work at the hotel and he starts dating someone that you wouldn't expect. Daisy's best friend Tara gets involved with a married man and then finds that...more

The last month has been a rough one and my reading was lulled by a book that just hadn't piqued my interest. Last week, I found myself stuck in a hospital waiting room, without any book. Luckily, I was able to d/l Nook for Mac and search my library of yet unread books. Staying at Daisy's met my needs!!! An author that is like a trusted friend, weaving a story that is entertaining and uplifting. A story that actually made me laugh out loud. I didn't want depressing or thought provoking. I wanted...more

After being stuck in The Milennium Series for 2 months, it was slightly refreshing to have a non-committal chick-lit beach read! Jill Mansell is reminiscent of the typical British chick-lit author, similar to Sophia Kinsella, a little lighter than Emily Giffin. The way she weaves the character's stories together is brilliant yet slightly predictable at times. I read it cover to cover in two days, and was pleasantly entertained with my second book by Mansell. The ending was a bit unrealistic, wra...more

A more complex cast of characters than I've read in the past. I appreciated the multiple story lines and how they intertwined and rewove.

This book is set in an elegant hotel in a small village in the Cotswolds, England. Daisy manages the hotel with the help of her father, Hector. The story begins with her facing a huge life changing event, which she continues to cope with through out the book.

While Daisy sorts out the details of her life, Josh, Tara, Paula, Maggie, and Dev, help her along, and t...more

I first stumbled onto Jill Mansell a few weeks ago when trying to find something light and fluffy to read. I picked up a couple more and I'm quickly discovering that while the names and specifics may change, the storyline is frighteningly similar. Staying at Daisy's was a charming read and I did like it but it was quite similar to the other novels of Mansell's that I've read and I knew how it was going to end even before I was midway though since the formula had already been laid out for me.

E o mais fantástico é qu...more

Jill Mansell lives with her partner and children in Bristol, and writes full time. Actually that’s not true; she watches TV, eats fruit gums, admires the rugby players training in the sports field behind her house, and spends hours on the internet marvelling at how many other writers have blogs. Only when she’s completely run out of displacement activities does she write.

Jill Mansell's books have...more
