When that failed, Honor switched her efforts to saving the family hotel that shares her name. Palmers, a beautiful old jewel of a building nestled on the coast of the Hamptons, used to be the most glamorous destination in the world. Now Honor wants to restore its repu...more

I'd really say this is more of a 3.5 than a plain three, but this having been my 2nd Tilly Bagshawe book I have to say the formula is showing a bit. Still a great read, especially while on vacation, but my preoccupation with US Weekly-type drama can only go so far without something stiffer to give it substance.

Ugh. Who'd have thought that a bonkbuster set in the uber rich, 5-star hotel world of the Hamptons could be so blah?
Clearly I've been spoiled by the glorious bitches and magnificent bastards over on Gossip Girl, but while it seemed that this was what was being aimed for, the characters within this were almost exclusively just unpleasant people, with all of the mean-spiritedness and none of the charm.

I'm still not sure what to make of this book. Parts were very good and well written, others felt all over the place. The pace was odd (it would take multiple chapters to get through a few days, then all of the sudden we were 3 years down the road) but it allowed for a rather broad and involved story to be told.
This is a cross between a light beachy kind of read and a more involved story, so don't go in to it thinking it will be quick. There are a decent amount of characters, but they all tie to...more

This is Tilly Bagshawe's third book (having followed in her sister Louise's footsteps into the realm of the bonkbuster) and it is a distinct improvement on her first two, which were middling. Yes, it's predictable, yes it's unrealistic but it is pure fantasy, in the tradition of Jilly Cooper, Jackie Collins et al and as such it is well done. This is a brilliant escapist read full of glamour, sex, romance and luxury, along with the requiste struggles for the protagonists along the way. The charac...more
The dumbest book I ever read. I doubt that the author ever learned any foreign language if she think that a laundry boy can just pick them up washing soled sheets. Wasn't she suppose to do a research before she started writing? Petra is not Russian name for starters. and there are plenty more stupid mistakes like that... I'm on page 70 now and bored to death. Lucky I got this book from the library, would hate to spend money on something stupid like this book.
It was a very refreshing read. I like how the story has a build up and its just a hard and fast story.
This is a story about a hotel family business in the hamptons and how she tries to keep it going even with the threat of a new snazzy modern hotel across the road, and her fight to keep her business.
Also there is love thrown in the mix that I love. but not you're normal love at first sight, more a slow gradual respect between the characters until it becomes love...

Perfect beach/holiday read. What a blockbuster! Containing liberal amounts of sex, swearing and verbal stoushes (as well as a few typos) this book centres around the hotel business. There's Honor, fighting to keep the family hotel alive and Lucas, who will do anything to build his empire. Yes, you've already predicted the ending. But that won't stop you enjoying this bonkbuster that's surprisingly well written.
It was ok, but when reading seemed rather lengthy and had too many characters for this type of novel. The writing also did not have the panache or readability of the author's sister, Louise Bagshawe. Nothing too much wrong with it in its genre, but it is not a stand out example of "chick lit" and it did not tempt me to try any other books by this author.
I got up to chapter 8 (page 103) and could take no more. This in itself shows how terrible I found it as it is incredibly rare for me to give up on a book. However I finally admitted defeat. The plot had barely moved and I struggled to warm to any of the characters. Possibly the dullest book I've read in a long time. I'll stick with Louise Bagshawe thanks.

Too much sex in this book. Making it kind of repulsive to me. But the plot is a strong plot.

A brilliant book, hadn't read this author before and i am not usually a fan of chick lit as the stories are quite shallow but this one had lots of twists in the plot and excitement in general, a bit of a predictable ending but if you are a chick lit fan in general this does offer more storyline than a lot of others.

it is a very long book, in pages, time to read but also in storyline. It is a nice story but nog great. just something if you don't have anything else. But still it is an author to keep an eye on.

terribly bad!!!
It's a story about a young man's struggle to pursue his dream. He worked very 'hard' to get a decent education and then ventured into hotelier business where he rose quickly to fame. He found up soon enough that along with the competition comes those unscrupulous and manipulative enemies. The story is peppered with his ups and downs.
Quite an entertaining read, if only the ending were a little more satisfying. I laughed a lot listening to this one and stayed up late to finish the chapters.

Trashy clichéd, badly written and trite. Fluff is a compliment. A caricature of the so-called glitzy life.
