Cold-blooded predators lurk in the Everglades—and not all of them are gators

When Jesse Crane returned to his roots to serve on the Miccosukee police force, he'd hoped to leave behind the violence of the city and the memories of his murdered wife. But bodies start to pile up in Jesse's corner of the sultry Florida swampland…

The story lacks the depth of Heather Graham's other books. Silhouette published this one. It could have been meant as a short love story. The Everglades could have been described better to give readers the feeling of its roughness and lurking violence. It felt like people had alligators roaming in their back yards.
The mystery is self-evident at the beginning. Over-Sized gators. Three men falling over each other to go out with Lorena. One falling into the cage with a gator. The doctor salivates o

This book is about making giant alligators and people killing other people when they get in the way of the giant alligator breeding experiment with a love story also in there. So I thought there was not enough background at all in this story the characters were just there and you occasionally found out a little information about them. Lorena and Jesse are the main characters and they pretty much meet and then all of a sudden they are in bed together (don't get me wrong I read plenty of bo
This is yet another suspense adventure penned by Heather Graham, with a strong female character standing up to her male counterpart's need to protect. Thankfully, he is open and understanding enough to overcome his wanting to keep her safe and out of harm's way, which is not always the case in these types of storyline. Very refreshing indeed!
The tale itself is set in Florida's Everglades, probably best known as 'alligator alley', and alligators do play a major role in this book. It is also great

I was immediately interested in this story, because of its unique location in the Everglades, and the focus on alligator farming and genetic manipulation. The hero is an American Indian cop with striking features and an imposing presence. He immediately pegs newcomer, Lorena, as a rich brat.

Lorena works at the local gator farm and museum, which is the perfect location to investigate her father's murder, but she's making people suspicious, including Jesse. There are murders and fatal gator attac

It was an enjoyable good read. This one takes place in the Florida swampland where gators are part of life around the Everglades. Jesse Crane is an officer of the law for the Miccosukee police force who unexpectedly finds himself falling for Lorena Fortier, who is hired at the gator farm/research facility as a nurse. Of course Jesse Crane is a strong and handsome man, just as Lorena is an attractive female as Heather Gramham would have it so to keep the heat up. Things get crazy when Billy Ray, ...more

A good book which can scare you when you think of the blank stare of the alligator and how fast they can actually run.

Tribal policeman Jesse Crane is suspicious of why Lorena Fortier came to Harry’s Alligator Farm in the middle of the Everglades. Lorena wanted to find proof that someone at the Farm had killed her father for his formula for genetically changing alligators. Someone has used the formula because part of an alligator was found at the crime scene where two friends of Jesse were shot t

Heather Graham's Suspicious takes place in Everglades. In the novel, a successful alligator farm is situated in Everglades. Police officer Jesse Crane is startled after three deaths take place. A couple have apparently been murdered, and the remains of an alligator is found near the place where they died. Secondly, a man has been eaten by giant alligator. Along with these tragic incidences, Jesse is startled to see Lorena Fo

Out of the majority of Graham's novels, this one is not up to her typical story development. The characters are fairly one dimensional. The back story is lacking, and Lorena's attempts at "investigation" are fairly laughable. Lurking in hallways and listening at doors is juvenile when considering she thinks that someone murdered her father. Her assertions of her own safety and ability to find the murderer gets annoying and whiny to the point that the reader almost wants her to get caught.

Lorena Fortier does not believe her father died in an accidental fall. She believes he was murdered for his research on alligators, so she takes a job at an alligator farm in the Florida Everglades to do some undercover investigating of her own. She soon meets police officer Jesse Crane, who knows that Lorena is up to something. Although they don't initially trust each other, the sparks soon fly between them, and they begin working together to identify the killer.

Shelves: suspence
Lorena Fortier got a job with a gator farm in the Everglades because she suspected the owner of having something to do with the death of her father, a gator researcher. Police officer Jesse finds Lorena suspicious because someone with her blonde good looks is not likely to choose to work in the Everglades. Together, Lorena and Jesse work to discover the identity of the bad guys.

Both of these stories were disappointing: neither had any connections to ghosts. While the first story took place in Florida and was set with a background of the local Indian tribes, it really was more about man's misunderstanding of what happens when you try to alter animal genetics.

The second story seemed to drag and was too long to get to real crux of the story. While I enjoyed the characters, it took much too long to reach the climax of the story.

Next time, I'll check to be sure I'm getting

I read this one in one day! I have read several books by Heather Graham/Shannon Drake. This one is a Silhoutte Intimate Moments book. I don't usually pick these up because of the size. They are just too short. I think alot of people don't realize how many popular, best selling authors cut their teeth writing for Harlequin, Silhoutte. Nora Roberts, Linda Howard for example. I still see some of these authors writing for these publishers. This one was fair. The plot was outrageous and a little thin ...more

Entertaining. Two heartwarming stories with a couple twists keep them interesting

Two heartwarming stories of romance and mystery. Enough twists to keep them flowing and wanting to know what is next

The characters didn't seem to have any chemistry, and by halfway through I think i should have felt engaged in the story, but I couldn't seem to get "drawn in", which is what I enjoy in a book.

Liked this book alot. It kept me interested, however, I thought the relationship between the hero & heroine was a bit rushed. She should have slowed their attraction down a little.

I was surprised this mystery didn't have any paranormal aspects, since all of the Heather Graham books I've read have been paranormal. It was interesting, and I am glad I don't live in alligator territory!!

Lol...I wanted something "less compelling" to read this weekend...this was it. I actually ended up skimming a lot and it was short, so it probably shouldn't count on my Books Read Challenge. I have really liked some of Graham's other stuff. Her "Deadly" trilogy was great, but this was a much earlier work and pretty hokey.

Heather Graham's suspense mystery was a fantastic. I like how it somehow involved "crocodiles", something I usually don't encounter in books I read.
A quick read. Although I guessed the killers early on it was still an interesting and entertaining story.
