I see that people's ratings of this book are all over the place and I can understand that. I did enjoy it; the mystery had me guessing almost until the answers were revealed, and then there was an additional revelation, but I found that almost too pat, too contrived. The leading man and woman were interesting, but some of the peripheral characters were played up in one portion of the story, only to be virtually ignored for the remainder of the book. Some descriptions were repeated in part or...more
This was a good book to read while I was sick in bed. It was easy to follow and pick up inbetween naps. I enjoyed that their was a little supernatural in it and of a course a mystery to solve. The writing isn't steller but it would make a great tv movie.

I really enjoyed this one and think it deserves slightly more than 3 stars, but not enough to be a 4. This story had a twist as Nicki's mother was a physic, but it wasn't overdone. The rest of her family was pretty colorful as well. Love the cop who held it all together and his backstory. He's one of the more intersing male love interests that I have read more recently. This one kept you guessing to the end who did it and it was a surprise.
Several years ago a few young girls are murdered. Nikki returns home to complete a show on the murder mystery. As Nikki tries to uncover what really happens ends up getting herself caught up in her own murder mystery. She meets Joe Franconi, the cop who is protecting her, and the story takes off from there.
There were a lot of twist and turns in this one. Nothing that you couldn't figure out on your own, but it kept me listening.

I bought this book at the library for $2.00. Since it is a hardback, not a bad deal. I never had read anything by this author but thought I would take a chance. I liked the premise of the story. Now that I have read her work, I plan to read anything else she has written. She gives just the right balance of background, character development, suspense and surprises. Even a little sex added in. :~) A very well written book. I really enjoyed it.
Had hoped this would be good read and it was in some ways. I was interested in mystery and finding out how it as resolved. However, the budding romance between the two main characters, the police chief with mysterious past, and a TV personality, reporter, a home town girl doing well on news show like 20/20, is so trite, so cliche ridden it was annoying (at least to me) at times. Not enough, however, to stop me from reading or enjoying the story and the romance.

Perhaps it was just my state of mind at the time, as this didn't turn out as bad as it started off for me. Sure it's Robards, so it's not groundbreaking by any means (I like to think of her books as slightly more intelligent Mills and Boon) but I came to enjoy it quite a bit. Nicky did have a fair amount of spunk that I liked, and I appreciated this story taking place over a much longer time period than some of Robards' other books; it made the romance feel a tad more natural. I will admit, the ...more
"Leonora protested, even as Uncle Ham and Karen and Mario fell back out of their way. The hall was long and narrow, white-painted beadboard with a hardwood floor. Nicky, with Leonora in tow and John following, charged up it like the little engine that could. The others had to practically run to stay ahead of them, and as a result, they all popped out in to the kitchen like spray shooting out of a shaken-up soda bottle."
I love this image.

The book was good...yes and no. I was disappointed in some areas. First, the title didn't go with the plot of the book. I can't stand it when that happens ~ It takes away from the book! And in this case, it sure did! Karen went overboard with descriptions and details, and it made the book over-long for nothing. The action and suspense does pick up, and there's a twist at the end that made it perfect. In the Epilogue, I think I would have liked to see a different ending for Nicky and Joe. Sure, N...more
I was intrigued by the mystery aspect. The book is quite dark, but there is a satisfying ending. Well, it was as satisfying as it could possibly be since there were depressing events and issues that were still occurring in their world even with the resolution of the mystery.

I stopped reading this book because I just couldn't get into it. I was very disappointed because I've really loved the couple of Karen Robards books I've read previously, but this was a dud. I'm surprised her publisher was willing to put this out.
Karen Robards is my favorite romance author. She blends sex and suspense like no other. This book ranks way up there on my list of best romantic reads- It's got everything I love- a sexy cop, a strong heroine, and a ghost or two.
Another freebie that I read while waiting for library book holds... it wasn't bad! The story was pretty compelling and there wasn't too much gratuitous sex, sometimes that can take away from the actual story. Robards does a decent job with that. All in all, enjoyable reading.
My review for this book is pretty much summed up by one word "Eh."
This book had SO MUCH potential! The first quarter of the book actually scared me to death and normally I don't like scary books in any way shape or form but it was so intriguing I couldn't put it down, even though I knew I should since I get the heebeejeebees!
Then the book took a giant nosedive and crashed. LAME. The main character was a fool, who was determined to do everything dumb she could possibly do. ...more

I kept reading the book because, even with some of the awkwardness of the writing, it was still suspeseful. The ending was just completely out there. It seemed so contrived and things fit into place all to well. Things that really didn't have a lot to do with one another. I think Robards tried WAY to hard to connect everything when there was no reason to do so. It just made the ending bad.

I'm a big Robards fan, but for some reason I found this book entirely too wordy. Now this is coming from a total amateur though. Loved Joe and Nicky's character! Leonora was a total kick! Would've loved to seen more of a her. All and all a good read.
It reads like a made-for-TV movie. Even the twist at the end is predictable.
Can anyone say why it is that writers of suspence novels feel that they always must end with an "unexpected" twist?

It's hard to tell how good a book is when I read it in tiny bits while feverish. It got me through my flu.
Really enjoyed this book. It had a few twists and turn, but the author tied everything together at the end. This is the first book I've read by Karen Robards. I will be trying other books that she's written.
Good book from the first chapter.. the ending was not what I expected.. but very good..
High body count, high drama as killer resumes after fifteen year hiatus.
Finding this really hard to read. Takes ages to get going. Loads and loads of characters in the first six chapters. Not quite like a Karen Robards book at all.
Okay - a few days later, I got into it and enjoyed the rest of it. Some others, however, may feel the slow start does not justify reading to the end.

Not as good as some of her other books. Just not as exciting.
pretty interesting book, not my favorite, but I would read it again.
Enjoyed this story and was surprised at part of the ending...
Good suspense from this author, but not my favorite.
good thriller - I love the main man in this story.
