I picked up The Guru in You because its author, Cameron Alborzian, seemed so healthy, fit, and poised on his Dr Oz show appearance. Retiring from modeling in high fashion (and a Madonna music video), Alborzian went on to study yoga and Ayurvedic medicine. His book is not one to read through, but a blueprint for starting one's spiritual practice. He urges readers to pause after each chapter to practice certain exercises introduced therein. The Guru in You spends a lot of time laying the mental gr ...more

This book was sent to me thanks to a goodreads giveaway. This would not be a book I would typically purchase, but would possibly pick up at the library. I liked the overall message of the book and as a somewhat beginner in yoga I did find many things helpful. At the same time, it was sometimes hard to get through. The personal stories at the beginning of chapters were annoying (lots of name dropping-Madonna! Prince! Elton John! and reminding you that he was a model) but if you skim (or skip) ...more

I thought this book was okay. I don't really think it was the book for me.
It was extremely general and his story was nice, but seemed to me he preferred name dropping...
It was a quick read so I didn't waste too much time with it, but it didn't really stick with me.
Also when he shared personal stories of clients they were so general I didn't really see how he helped them.
He did remind me of my father when he was younger (the photos) and since my dad has passed away, there was a nice/strange sense

In the interest of being non-judgmental, I'll congratulate this guy on publishing a book. On the other hand, I will also be realistic and say that not all books need to have been published, and certainly don't need to be read.

If you're interested in either Ayurveda or yoga, there are about ten thousand other books that would better serve you.

Was a good read & layer out a good plan for anyone interested in becoming a yogi or changing their lifestyle. Informative & entertaining while also instructive. You have to want to change In order to be willing to change. Let of of material objects and focus on oneself. I myself have used the power of yoga to heal, & believe in it whole heartily. Set your intentions, find your peace....Namaste

I did not find this to be a good yoga/lifestyle resource in general. Although the author tried to make his experiences seem relevant to the reader, I found them to be off-putting and highly cheese-tastic.

It's was alright. Not the greastest read... talked a lot about himself and his early days before yoga... I didn't care to hear about that. The Ayurveda ways were interesting to learn about.

I browsed the book, but it offered very little that I haven't learned elsewhere -- minus the yik-yak about being an ex-model, etc.

With a title like this, it could only suck, and it did. All the focus on modeling and his friends was a sleeper, and the tone of writing seemed fake, and as another reviewer said, cheesy.

The Guru in You is a great book about Ayurveda and yoga. Though Alborzian mentioned that he was a model over and over again, the content of this book makes up for it. This is an amazing book for a beginner in yoga/Ayurveda. The flashbacks in this book are also very helpful. It shows the reader the different situations the author has been through. It helps the reader understand from the author's perspective. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is trying to start yoga. The ancient ...more

This was an excellent book for learning what Ayurveda is and how to get started. For someone familiar with Ayurveda this book would only be good as a refresher.
