Junie B. books are “real” chapter books, in that they look like “big kid” books, have smaller type and fewer pictures than easy readers and have longer sentences. There is generally only one half-page picture per chapter, which, while related to the text, doesn’t replace actual reading. The book keeps the short sentence structure of earlier books, but loses some of the controlled vocabulary and repetition.

My niece is 6 and she loves these books. I find them amusing. But the grammar makes me crazy. I correct it when I'm reading to her. And I explain the words that are not real words.
This is one of the first Junie books (we have been reading them out of order). In this story Junie has decided that she wants to win at everything (she is used to winning cause she always wins with her grandfather).
Anyhow she finds out that the School Carnival is coming up. And the More...

This book was very funny. Junie B. goes to the carnival at her school. Junie is not very happy at first because she loses at a few carnival games. But, she does win a comb in the fising pole game which she's not very happy about. Then, her mom suggests that Junie go into her kindergarten room 9 and do the cake walk. This is fun for Junie because she wins a cake and her mom lets her pick out what kind of cake. Junie picks out a cake that she thinks is looks nice. But, when she gets home with her

I know a lot of people who like this series so I thought I'd try one out with Ellie. She liked it well enough but I had problems. I didn't like the baby talk language it was written in ("I ranned and ranned") and found myself correcting the language as I read it out loud to Ellie. I don't want her using incorrect English! A pet peeve of mine but I realize it was intended for fun in the book. However, the character is 5 - I don't know a lot of 5 year olds who still talk like that!

One of my favorite of the Junie B books! Some really hysterical parts...talking about carnival night at school, Junie B says "...After that, a crybaby boy named William stood up very shy. And he said one time he rode the scary roller coaster. And he didn't even cry that much. Except for he accidentally threw up his chili dog. Then Paulie Allen Puffer told about carnival food that he threw up too. Like a candy apple. And caramel popcorn. And a rubber band. Except for that is not food. Th

Junie goes to her school carnival and starts losing at all the games and blames everyone for her failure. Then she wins a comb at the fishing and has to be spoken to about her behavior. Then she throws a wet sponge at Meanie Jim and runs away from her parents and refuses to come out and when they haul her out of the moon walk, she has to apologize to him. Then they cannot find her shoe and she becomes upset and her parents let her play one more game and she decides she has to have the fruitcake.

"...glum is when the happy is gone right out of you."
—June B. Jones and the Yucky Blucky Fruitcake, P. 19
I would give two and a half stars to this book.
Some of Junie B. Jones's funniest moments are captured in the pages of this fast-moving book. A look at the irrepressible kindergartner's visit to her school's carnival night, "Junie B. Jones and the Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" is a well told story from all angles, and most definitely a Barbar More...

Junie B. is frustrated because she can't seem to win. Her friends beat her at games, races and competitions. All she won at the carnival was a dumb plastic comb, while That Grace won all kinds of great prizes. Why couldn't Junie B. win, especially after she even practiced at home for the sponge-toss at the principal's face by throwing sponges into the toilet? But then there was the cake walk. And guess what? Junie B. won a cake! And since fruit is her favoritest thing ever, then fruitcake

Junie B. Jones is relatable to most children, because author Barbra Park uses words and phrases that any typical child would use. Park also has Junie B. display emotions of excitement to disappointment and a typical selfishness that most children demonstrate at that age. Her grandpa lets her win all the games so when she goes to school and is upset that her friends beat her at the games. There are black and white illustrations every few pages and allow the reader to see Junie B.’s excitement whe

Junie B. Jones, the kindergartner is on a mission to be the winner of everything. This book shows how Junie B. struggles to win everything she wants, and how in the end she doesn't win what she wants. This books involves multiple members of her family, and how they help her to understand that winning isn't everything!

I thought this was a great book. Junie B. is very excited about the Carnival at her school. She practiced for the games many times and thought she was gunna get all the prizes. It turns out that she is not as good at the games as she thought. On game she played was called the cake walk. She won so she got to pick out a cake. The one she picked was a fruitcake. She did not know that this was gross. But now she will have it for a long time......

This is a book that will make kids laugh. They will understand her vocabulary and enjoy listening to someone read it aloud to them. Junie B Jones is sassy, funny and manages to instill some lesson in each of her books. In this particular book, Junie learns not to lie about things that she doesn't like and that there are ways to be polite when you don't like something. Kids can truly relate to these.

Junie B. Jones starts to realize that she is not the best when it comes to competition. When the school carnival is announced she is determined to win all the games and prizes possible. Junie B. practices each game at home, arriving at the carnival ready to win. However, her plans don’t work out quite as well as she wanted, leaving her with a yucky, blucky fruitcake.

This book was a funny beginner book. It is about how Junie B. is at the school festival and goes and plays the moonwalk. Shewins and picks out a fruitcake for the cake she gets. She keeps on sitting on it, trys it, says it's disgusting, and is hilarious in this book Junie B. Jonesand the Yucky Blucky Fruitcake.

This book is about Junie B. going to her school fair for the first time. She couldn't wait. Junie B. did the cake walk and she won. She picked out the fruitcake cake and Junie B's mom warned her that she wouldnt like that cake but she took it anyway, she thought it looked good. This is a great book.

"I'm the bestest winner in the world!" It's Carnival Night, and Lucille has already won a box of fluffy cupcakes with sprinkles on them. But when Junie B. wins the Cake Walk, she chooses the bestest cake of all- the one wrapped in sparkly aluminum foil. How was she to know it was a lethal weapon?

This was the first one my teacher read to us. If I could, I would have gave it a ten. I think this because it teaches a lesson to Junie B Jones that just because you like fruit doesn't mean that you'll like fruitcake. She didn't listen to her mom (and moms are always right) and she learned her lesson.

Junie learns about winning and how it isn't always important to win all of the time. My young kids had a harder time with this one because they don't really grasp the idea of winning and competition. Still, they appreciated Junie's goofy humor and listened to the whole book, which is a win.

Again, I don't really care for Junie B. Jones. I do understand why some do, but it is not for me. She does not listen, is disobedient, rude, etc! As a parent it was hard for me to read because she gets away with too much, but I would put it in my library because I do see why people like it.

Junie B. Jones is one of my favorite book series for 2nd or 3rd graders. The dialect in these books is very interesting and could teach a child many things about grammar and language without feeling as if they are learning. Junnie B's vocabulary is funny and makes the book interesting, especially since she explains her misspelled and misused vocabulary throughout the book. This book would be great for a lesson on the correct spelling or fix Junnie B's grammar. Great series for a classroom librar

The best part of this book is when a clown approaches Junie B. Jones at the school carnival and Junie B. shouts, "BACK OFF, CLOWN!" Who can blame her for that?
The lesson of this book is "winning is not everything."
I think this will be the last Junie B. Jones book I choose to read.

I read all the Junie B. Jones books to my kids when my daughter was in first grade. We laughed out loud and loved all of them. My daughter went on to re-read all of them herself. This is my favorite book in the series. I laughed so hard at her description of fruit cake!

I hated the baby talk and grammatical babble in this book. It was still funny, hence the 3rd star, but tries too hard to be witty and ends up confusing my 7 year old. Good thing we're growing out of this series because I'm not sure how much more I can take!

i didn't really like this book but it was too easy for anyways junie is like saying that she can win in any games even her friends but she didn't and when she won she was playing with her grandpa and she forces too much and so much

My daughter and I read the whole series when she was 3. She LOVED them. We just saw the musical based on some of the books, so we're re-reading the whole set. She is now 6 and still adores the books.
