I HAVE TO read this.the fifth book was amazing,but it was much too short,and the wait for the sixth is too long...i just want more pages and more schuyler and jack!!!

Ah, what a shame!

I LOVED this series at the beginning. The first four books were really good. They were interesting, well written, unique and captivating. It's completely lost its way though, sadly. The last two books have been huge let downs.

4th October? really?! I can't wait that long! My patience have the span of the universe but this is really something else. I don't want to wait for even a minute 4 this book's release. yeah, that's how far gone I am. Bloody Valentine just didn't do it 4 me cuz it's short and very rushed. Even Schuyler and Jack's relationship/bonding didn't have that magical, sensual and forbidden feel that I've loved since the first book. I think I like them more as the not-so-secret lovers. For starters I only had a little clue on what I was getting into. Which is surprising since this the 6th blue blood book and by which it is evident that I should have been more than just a little clued in on the happenings. But that is the beauty of this series, it is highly unpredictable. You are never sure what to expect and when you do expect something the author again throws something unexpected at you. The entire book is divided into three separate story lines. One involved Schuyler and Jack with a group of venators in search of the "Gate of Promise". On the way they have to battle a group of Nephalims and protect innocent maiden being carried of into the underworld as a part of some grand scheme. The second one involves Mimi Force and Oliver as they travel into the underworld to save Kingsley Martin Mimi's long lost love and a former silver blood. The third storyline involves Allegra Van Allen and takes place from where we last left her in "Bloody Valentine". She has moved on and trying to go through with her responsibilities to the coven and enter in to the bond with Charles(Michael the Uncorrupted). But things are not as they seem as Allegra soon finds out there are things far beyond her knowledge out there which might have played a huge role in her immortal life. Things are not bright for the blue blood community as a whole. Covens all around the world have disintegrating with the vampires moving under ground and there is also a very real chance for the next apocalypse. The only hope is Schuyler's quest to find the gate of promise before the corrupted. Fast paced and exciting this blue blood series is entirely nerve racking. As before the author has tried to give detailed description on things like food and clothes but she has considerably toned down these descriptions when compared to her previous ventures. In the end this Blue blood book is highly satisfying and a worthy predecessor to the previous ones. (less)

I didn't even get to page 20. I just skipped through to see what happened. The characters have changed either to whiny teenagers or individuals who are too old for their time. There was no set balance and unfortunately for me to really get into a book, I have to see the characters grow and develop.

In the Blue Bloods series the plot develops fast but the personalities are just so dull, boring and predictable. However, I am curious to see how the final book ties everything up.

Oh my God, I didn't see this coming! Engrossing, heart pounding, jaw-dropping secret spilling, action-packed and… finally! Finally, connection!!! It all makes sense now, except what happened in Florence?
We now know what sky is… her connection to the gate of promise… But, how did Allegra and Luci ahh… make Bliss??? Again, WTF happened in Florence! Melissa de la Cruz gave this book her best! And… I approve!
Blueblood series is a must read and the journey is just beginning, (at least that’s my opini...more

This is the penultimate installment of the Blue Bloods series. I can’t really discuss plot without spoiling the other series, but suffice it to say that Jack and Schuyler are happy (for now, but for how long?), Mimi wants to get Kingsley back and we start learning more about Allegra’s backstory from her own narration.

This series cuts me in half. It's really good on some parts, others not so much.

To really try to parse out what I enjoyed, what didn't work, what I'd like to see in the future. But I just can't with this series! Although I did actually finish Lost in Time, I am officially done with the series as a whole. I will say that I did apparently miss a book between this and Misguided Angel. Evidently Bloody Valentine was not an unconnected story (not sure where I got that idea, but it's...more My goal for this year was to sit down and write a truly thoughtful review for every book I read. Although I did actually finish Lost in Time, I am officially done with the series as a whole. I will say that I did apparently miss a book between this and Misguided Angel. Evidently Bloody Valentine was not an unconnected story (not sure where I got that idea, but it's the reason I didn't bother to read it).

Without turning this into a horrible rant, I cannot even begin to count the problems I had with this book. It's pretty telling that, for the last couple of books, no one has mentioned "the 400." Perhaps because it's entirely illogical? I know I complain about it it nearly every review, but this novel in particular hit home how little sense it makes. All of the covens are apparently going underground? With only 400 vampires in the entire world (and an untold number already irrevocably dead, what with all of the Silver Bloods apparently running around), should that really be such a big deal? At this point there can't be more than 25 left, if you follow the math!

Sigh. My other major quibble is another recurring one, the fact that once again, precious little actually happens in this novel. Oh, the characters go places and do things and talk about stuff....but I can't put my finger on more than a couple of specific plot developments. The last book felt like marking time to get everyone to Alexandria. But then nothing happens -- the "gate" or whatever the eff they're looking for isn't even in Alexandria. Then there's some nonsensical crap in the underworld, which again just feels like a way to get everyone in position for the final battle. Finally. The problem is that it all feels gratuitous. There's no purpose behind much of the action -- speaking of which, the action scenes themselves are extremely poorly written. I never knew who was where, what was happening, what the adversaries actually looked like. Blah.

I've given up. I thought that maybe with an endgame in sight, things would pick up. This whole series (7 books? 8?) could probably have been a decent trilogy. The current trend of every story being a saga is frustrating. Write one really great book and then move on! Write a second really great book that is in no way connected to the first! And so on. I'm real disappointed that literally NOTHING happened in this book. Nothing was solved, questions answered but that lead to more unanswered questions, characters brought back but high prices were paid. This book came to me in the wrong time. I was supposed to read it a month from now according to my schedule but one awful day, I finished most of it and continued the rest the following morning, now it's done and i hate it!!

let's be serious, these books really have a good story and potentially complex events, but Cruz's babyish writing is unbelievable. from the plot side of view, this book got a lot of questions answered, finally hello Michael and good cliffhanger ending for the upcoming last installment, finally! The setting is great as well, Egypt and the underworld, it was great to read between the English words a lot of Arabic words that i understand and sometimes figuring stuff out before the characters since i know Arabic and they don't. I didn't like the idea of one small chapter (that nearly always doesn't add anything to the point) for each of the 3 characters, Cruz is trying to find a substitute for Bliss, adding Demming in Misguided Angel and forcing an incoherent Allegra story into Lost in Time, if Cruz wrote each story separately then put them in that order later in the editing, i cannot imagine her sitting to write the dull monotonous story of Allegra one chapter after the other, where nothing really adds up, when reading Keys to the Repository, I found a lot of questions that i felt would be answered later, and by reading Bloody Valentine, one doesn't know how Allegra ended up with Ben after wards, that's the only addition Lost in Time adds about Allegra's story, even though a lot of stuff could have been added as well; the story of Florence will be explained in the next book, i get it, but what about how Ben died, how Allegra fell into comatose, these things don't have to be in the final book, they can (with Cruz's pace) be explained in one paragraph, instead of Allegra going back and forth between Ben and Charles and blah blah blah.
at certain points in this book, i had a feeling that Cruz writes the stupid stuff, then writes the battering she gives herself for writing something so stupid, all the 'why did she...' 'why has she...' 'why couldn't she....' and yeah they're all shes because every girl in this book just feels compelled to do something that doesn't seem logical.
so now why on earth did i give this book 3 stars? cuz i honestly feel so guilty that i read this book in the wrong time and hated it like that, I want to remind myself that it's a blue bloods book and as a blue bloods book it deserves 3 stars, I liked Misguided Angel more (dunno why), and still love Van Alen Legacy, while this one falls in the Blue Bloods, Key's to the Repository place, annoying/indifferent/stupid...
can't wait for the final book to get rid of this series forever

OMG! Look at that cover! I didn't think they could get any better. Hopefully the book is just as good :)

Update: I wasn't that impressed. Rather than focusing on the actual storyline (finding the gates of hell and that) this book is mostly about breaking the bond between Mimi and Jack. I was completely dissapointed. All the fun exciting chracters are gone. Mimi and Sky have lost their spark and independance, Oliver was very very secondary and there was hardly no action. Turns out it is NOT the last book of the series! This is the best one so far, because it focuses only on Schyler, Jack, Mimi, Oliver, and of course the back story of Michael and Gabrielle. There are no small characters clouding things up, dragging the pace of the story. This a mad race through hell, literally, with a not-so-surprise ending, involving Lucifer. This series seems to alternate between awesome books and not so awesome books. So since Bloody Valentine, the Blue Bloods novella proceeding this book, was frickin' awesome, that would make this book not so awesome.

So since Bloody Valentine, the Blue Bloods novella proceeding this book, was frickin' awesome, that would make this book not so awesome.

There are three main plot threads in this novel, one with Jack and Schuyler, one with Mimi, Oliver and Kingsley, and one with Allegra, Steven and Charles. The three plot strands are explored in alternate chapters as it does in the other novels but it particularly bothered me in this one for some reason. I felt that the chapters were too short and I didn't have enough time to get into them before we were thrust into another story. Sure, there was a cliff hanger on the end of all the chapters which kept you reading, but given the change of scenery and a few new concepts to get to grasps with, I was just confused.

Jack and Schuyler are in Egypt where they believe the real Gate of Promise is but of course there are still a hundred thousand obstacles between them and their goal. If I'm perfectly honest, I don't remember Jack and Schuyler's thread all that much despite the fact that I finished this novel just this morning. At the beginning of this series, this pair was the thing I always most excited to read about, but as time has gone on, it has become my least favourite. I feel like the spark and excitement in reading about their relationship has completely died and their story just isn't as interested as it used to be. This is probably because their story line is one that started right back in book one whereas some of the others are new and refreshing to read about. The other thing that I've come to realise is that I believe Schuyler is actually younger than me and she's already found a boy who she's irrevocably in love with, who she'd die for, yada yada yada. It just seems a bit unrealistic to me. Not that any of the other young adult books I read are particularly realistic either, but this pair actually act like an old married couple, probably because they are actually married - which is also kind of creepy.

The other two plot strands are far more interesting. Mimi and Oliver have travelled to the Underworld to try and rescue Kingsley Martin, Mimi's new love interest. The problem is that things are quite as they expected. After their long and perilous journey to find Kingsley, they find that he is not tortured or unhappy, but he seems to be pretty content and not all that bothered about Mimi's appearance in the Underworld. This section fluctuated between mediocre and really, really awesome. The bit that was really really awesome was a romantic scene between Kingsley and Mimi that actually made me cry (yes, real tears). My opinion of Mimi was shifting between love and hate constantly throughout this novel but in the end I decided that I love her character. She may seem really bitchy but deep down she has got a heart and she's really loyal and even though sometimes her decisions make you want to hate her, she does do the right thing in the end.

The third plot strand was a flackback from Allegra and Bendix's (or Steven's) past. It's been several years since Allegra left him at Edicott Academy and she's resigned herself to loving and bonding with her brother Charles (creepy, right?), but everything changes when she bumps into Bendix at an art gallery. The story of Allegra's past has consistently been my favourite part of this series and this was no exception. It's really interesting to read about her past life as it makes some of the events in the present a little clearer, especially since lots of the older characters in the present are featured in Allegra's past. This part of the story is also really romantic, though I would argue not quite as romantic as Mimi and Kingsley's. This particular part of their history isn't as exciting as it has been in past books but it's really interesting nevertheless.

At the end of the novel, two of the plot strands come together and there's a pretty climatic finale. I'm excited to read Gates of Paradise, the last book in this series, and I'm really, really hoping that it's good. Hopefully all the plot strands from the previous books will all come together in this book and be resolved but I'm trying not to get my hopes up just in case it's a disappointment.

I feel like this series has been dragging on for so darn long, I kind of just want it to end. Don't get me wrong, some bits are brilliant, but the basic plot line hasn't changed all the much and the same story has been carried through six (eight, if you include the novellas) and it still hasn't been resolved. This book is definitely worth a read for the Mimi/Kingsley and Allegra/Bendix parts, but in my opinion, Jack and Schuyler's part of the story is a massive let down.(less)

Review:
I have to say I felt pretty mixed about this book. Part of the book was action packed and gripping while other parts ... well, not so much. Easily, my favourite bit was Allegra's story, and I constantly found myself itching to get back to it. Although any Blue Bloods fan knows how her story ends, it is interesting to see how she got there. I also found myself believing in Allegra's struggle, unlike Schuyler. Schuyler's struggle for the forbidden love felt weak at best -- and contrived. I never felt that the relationship between Charles and Allegra was just a story. They seemed more real to me to the point that I felt pity for Charles' heartache and anxiety as fate seemed to push Allegra into a doomed relationship.

Now, with relationships on mind, I'd like to focus on Jack and Schuyler. This is a story that tasted a bit bland to me. It had enough spice to not dislike it completely, but it was definitely not a favourite dish. For those that complained about the lack of romance in Misguided Angel, don't worry, you get it here. For those of you, like me, that rather skip it, well, it makes the story drag. I cannot say this enough, but their relationship never felt real to me. Even from page one of the first book, it felt forced, and I knew I was never going to enjoy their subplot. I grow weary of them constantly worrying about each other and how they simply cannot live without the other. This over the top crap is making me think hormones more than love. I can't even say I was overly fond of the nonromantic plot. It started out well enough - she and Jack are trying to find the keeper for the Gate of Promise, and they even run into some venators that are on a mission. By the end though, I wasn't quite as satisfied. There is one point when the Chen sisters and Schuyler get kidnapped to become brides for either demons or silver bloods, and it was through all of this that I kept rolling my eyes. It all seemed so generic evil. Apparently, most demons were hideous (heaven forbid that demons be something different), and Schuyler is lucky to be given to a handsome one. Dehua's apparently looks like a toad. Then, the women who beautify the girls are given the impression that they are gaudy and tasteless. The "wedding dresses" that our girls are given are even scandalous and a bit slutty -- definitely no class. After all, demons can't like classy things. This generic evil just irritated me to no end. There was one more major aspect in this plot that grated me as well. (view spoiler)

Lastly, we have Mimi's story. Again, it started out well enough, but left me more and more annoyed as the story went on. As stated in the book summary, Mimi's story follows her into Hell as she tries to retrieve Kingsley's soul. Like with Schuyler's tale, I ended up having issues with Hell and its residents. Melissa de la Cruz tried taking the non fire and brimstone route for Hell, which I am not complaining about. I am always eager to see what ways people interpret Hell. Well, what Melissa de la Cruz did was interesting. In her interpretation of Hell, she has it where instead of pure torture, everything is just slightly off all the time I have to say, I actually liked this idea, and I think it would grow on you after a while and turn you a bit mad. My problem with this was this seemed to be the only bad thing Hell offered -- even with the lower levels. Seriously, the worst thing Hell has to offer is being mildly uncomfortable? I just don't buy it. Then, we have the generic evil once again. The one I recall most from Mimi's story is the demon girl that decides which souls get to enter this club. Not only is she evil just because, but she even has horns and a pointed tail. Can you get more cliche than that? Now, I may be pickier than most about my angel and demons since I study them. However, if the story is interesting enough, I am willing to give leeway to the author. All throughout the series, I have found myself aggravated by several things related to the angels, but I found myself enjoying the story and was willing to put my mishaps aside. However, I was not able to do this with Melissa's version of Hell and the generic evil.

However, a not-so-bad Hell and generic evil are not the only things I disliked about Mimi's tale. (view spoiler)[ Now, upon reaching Kingsley's soul, Mimi comes to the realisation that he is actually content there due to the fact that there are no longer voices in his head. With this new curve ball, Mimi must decide whether or not to continue with her plan, even if Kingsley will leave with her. Now, any person knows that Jack and Schuyler are going to have their happily ever after. The question is, "what about Mimi, our anti-hero?" She is not guaranteed a happy ending so there was a chance that Kingsley may be left behind. However, after reading Lost in Time, it seems more and more obvious that de la Cruz plans on giving everyone a happily ever after of some sort. I get that there is a good chunk of people that want that, but for me, it's boring and removes so much tension.

Okay, so everyone is going to have glorious princess stye love lifes. I can deal with that. I may not like it, but I can deal with it. After all, there is still more to the plot than just the romance, but then I come across another plot point that walks the line between the romantic and nonromantic plot. To get Kingsley's soul out of Hell, Mimi is forced to give up her own. With the loss of her soul, Mimi ends up forgetting all her love for Kingsley and now only thinks of him as the supposedly reformed silver blood (although a cute one). Without this love, her thoughts are once again overtaken by revenge on Jack. All right, so the whole giving up your soul for your love is overly cliche, but de la Cruz gave herself room to play around. I mean, she had a character, who had gone through so much to become a better person, basically revert to someone bitter and, once again, lonely. I was excited to see what journey Mimi would have to go through. Hell, was it even possible for her to love again? But do we get any of this? No. Instead, she just magically wins her soul back when she doesn't kill Jack in their all out and climatic battle. So instead of getting to see Mimi struggle through another emotional journey, which would probably have the readers relating to or at least sympathizing for her, we end up getting a cheap fix to her problems in less than twenty pages. I don't know about other readers, but I feel cheated! (hide spoiler)]

Now, it may seem that I disliked most of this book though that is not really the case. Sure a lot of things in Lost in Time grated me, but I still found the overall story arc enjoyable. This was definitely my least favourite Blue Bloods book, but it was no where near bad enough for me to start hating the series. Plus, there were still aspects in this book that I did like. I fell in love with Allegra's tale, and I am dying to know what she did back in Florence. Why was Charles keeping it a secret? De la Cruz also had an interesting intake on Hell. Sure I had some problems with it, but again, it had an uniqueness to it. Plus, Lost in Time was a fast paced read for me (for the most part), and don't feel it was a waste of my time at all. Hell, I'll still end up buying the paperback version to add to my collection. In general, I don't think it would be too weak, but for me, it felt too cliche, and I felt that de la Cruz could have come up with a better evil and less easy exits. It had a good plot, but a poor execution, making for an all right to decent book.(less)

I love this series so much that... I can't even explain it. The whole series was breathtaking. I took a break at the 3rd book and started reading Cinder. Cinder was really good, and I thought I already lost taste for Blue Bloods. And did I tell you, I was SO WRONG about that. Melissa is just really good at building up the emotions and storyline. I can't get enough of it. I want the last book, NOW! NOW! NOWWWWWW! I'm dying...

Lost in Time starts off where De La Cruz's last Blue Bloods book, Misguided Angel, ends. I do believe that you need to be familiar with the other books in the series before picking up Lost in Time. There is so much going on in the Blue Bloods world that it helps if you can recollect everything that has happened.

At the end of Misguided Angel, Schuyler and Jack had decided to have a bonding ceremony (they got married to us Red Bloods.) Jack's sister/nemesis Mimi, after losing her love Kingsley Martin to the Demons of Hell, had decided to make the journey through the Gates of Hell with Oliver to get him back. Finally, Charles and Allegra (Jack's father and Schuyler's mother) had disappeared leaving the New York Coven in shambles.

Lost in Time is written from the point of view of 3 characters: Schuyler, Mimi, and Allegra. Each character is involved in their own individual story. While the happenings of Schuyler and Mimi take place in current time, the chapters revolving around Allegra go back to before her Comatose state. De La Cruz allows her readers a closer look at Allegra's relationships with Charles and Ben and how the consequences of her actions unfolded.

In Lost in Time, Schuyler is able to convince Jack to help her find Catherine of Siena and the Gate of Promise before facing his blood trial with Mimi. They find themselves on a wild goose chase throughout Alexandria and Cairo searching for the Gate Keeper. After each wrong turn the couple comes closer together as they realize just how important it is to find her secrets in order to save their world from Lucifer.

Mimi, the current Regent of the Coven, looks on as the chaos in the Blue Bloods world grows. She comes to realize that to be an effective leader she first has to be happy. She and Oliver decide they have no choice but to enter Hell to save Kingsley. With determination and many struggles Mimi finds the man she loves. However, Kingsley has changed due to his time in the Seventh Circle of Hell. This unexpected realization puts Mimi and Oliver in danger, as well as the New York Coven.

Melissa De La Cruz does a great job in weaving an entertaining story filled with lust, suspense, and heartache. She describes Hell in a way that I have never seen done. Her Hell is not just a place with lakes of fire and demons. De La Cruz creates a world inhabited by fallen Angels, Demons, Trolls, the dead, and Hellhounds. Each level of Hell is different and miserable in its own unique way. Oliver discovers that the clothes are itchy, the buildings are too hot or too cold, the food is too sweet or rotten. Nothing is right.

I really enjoyed watching Mimi and Oliver's friendship grow. They started off despising each other in the beginning of the series and grew to truly enjoy each others company. De La Cruz shows in Lost in Time how they have come to know each other better than almost anyone else. Mimi no longer just worries about herself and what is going to make her life easier, she now views Oliver as a true friend which as a result changes her and her relationship with Kingsley.

When I found Schuyler and Jack's story start to drag Mimi and her escapades lifted me back up. De La Cruz really handles the Mimi/Oliver/Kingsley storyline well. It is witty, quickly moving, and hot (in more ways than one!)

I recommend Melissa De La Cruz's Lost in Time to all YA literature fans. De La Cruz does a great job of leaving her readers asking for more. My countdown is on for January 2013 when the final Blue Bloods novel, The Gates of Paradise, is released. I'm excited to see how the story turns out for Schuyler, Jack, Mimi, Kingsley, Oliver, Allegra, Charles, Bliss and all of my other favorite Blue Bloods characters. (less)

This series has become far too long!

All right- with that small rant out of the way, I have to saw I enjoyed this book the same way I enjoyed the others. Interested predicaments, if not a plot that has become somewhat (understatement?) convoluted. I can't even really remember most of the original story that occurred within the first few books.

Whoa.
Just.. whoa.
So, Lost in Time takes after Jack-s and Schuyler’s bonding.
Now they’ve got to wake up and do what they planned to do all along, to stay true to their duty.
Meanwhile, Mimi decides she cares more about having her love back with her than taking revenge on her betraying twin.
So she sets off for Hell, accompanied by Oliver.
Like Bloody Valentine, we don’t have Bliss’s POV anymore. I wonder what she’s doing, how’s her mission doing. But anyway.

Is it just me or do these books feel like they're dragging on now. The first three books were like blam, blam, blam and then it was like, schuuurch! I have been reading them because I try to be loyal, but this one I just can't. I cannot soldier through. I have only read maybe two pages and I just can't. Where's the tension. much better than the last book, i still miss the more straight forward narrative of the earlier books.

i love what mimi is becoming, and doing. i miss bliss and want her own book now. i thought the inclusion of the beauchamp witches was possibly a little forced, but i didn't mind so much. the whole catherine of siena thing annoyed me.

I have been a loyal follower of the series since reading the first book.

To be honest, this book left me feeling rather ... confused. First off, I'm not a fan of the romantic pairings. I'm not a Jack & Schuyler fan, I'm not a Mimi & Kingsley fan, and I'm definitely not an Allegra & Ben fan. Lost in Time is the latest installment of the Blue Bloods series by author Melissa De La Cruz. Before I get into discussing the book, I want to urge any of you who have not read her series of short stories, Bloody Valentine, to do that now. It isn’t essential to read the stories to understand what is happening in this book , but it definitely gives you more insight into the characters and the situations they have found themselves in. It’s a quick read and a great treat for everyone who loves the Blue Bloods series. A big thank you goes out to Hyperion for providing me with a review copy of the book and to Melissa for autographing it!

Now, back to Lost in Time. This book has two main plot lines and one subplot: first, Jack and Schuyler’s quest to find and secure the Gate of Promise. In Misguided Angel, Schuyler’s mother had tasked her with with the mission of protecting the remaining Gate of Hell. By reading her grandfather’s files, Schuyler was sure the gate was located in Alexandria, Egypt. So, seven months after Schuyler and Jack fled the United States for Italy, they find themselves in Egypt, desperately looking for the Gate of Promise. Nephilim have been destroying Covens around the world, and many more will die if Jack and Schuyler can’t secure the gate. Of course, Jack still has to go back to New York to face Mimi in a blood trial – the punishment for breaking his bond with her. The second plot line revolves around Mimi’s mission to free Kingsley Martin from Hell. Mimi is convinced that Kingsley is her one chance at true love and will stop at nothing to bring him back. Oliver agrees to join Mimi on her journey to Hell. What they find when they get there is not what either expects. Between these two main story lines, we also learn about the recent history of Charles and Allegra Van Alen and find out about Schuyler’s human father.

Without spoiling any of the book, I will say that I enjoyed all three plot lines in the story. Each story line was separate and distinct, yet they came together nicely in the end. I am sad that the next book is the last in the series, but I think this book did a great job of setting up the end of the series. So far, Lost In Time is my favorite book. The characters have grown and changed over the last five books and I think they are finally coming into their own. I really loved Mimi and Oliver together – talk about an odd couple! Their interaction shows a different side of Mimi – a side that we haven’t seen much of in the series. It is also nice to see Oliver apart from Schuyler and to see how he has grown and tried to cope with her loss. I also enjoyed seeing Mimi vulnerable – I came to appreciate her in a totally different way after finishing the book. She has gone from a character I love to hate to a character I love.

I also really enjoyed the focus on Allegra and Charles. Over the course of the last five books, we haven’t learned a great deal about Allegra besides the fact that she is Gabrielle the Uncorrupted and that she broke her bond with Michael to take a human husband. In this book, we get to see what lead up to Allegra leaving Charles and how she came to be in a coma. I also appreciated getting a closer look at Charles and understanding what made him into the cold, unfeeling person he turned out to be. History can teach us much about the present, and history is prone to repeat itself, which is very evident as Allegra’s tale intersects with her daughter’s. Going back in time to learn about these characters adds a new dimension to the series that I wish the author would have brought in earlier.

Of course, there were things about the book that annoyed me. Schuyler can be way too dramatic and stubborn at times, but that has been a staple of her personality throughout the series. The dialogue is a bit over the top in some places, and there were scenes that didn’t seem to add much to the story. But, overall, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The ending left my mouth agape, wondering how the author is going to wrap up the Blue Bloods tale in just one more book. The Gates of Paradise doesn’t come out until 2013, which seems like much too long to wait. Luckily, Melissa De La Cruz is writing another series featuring Bliss and her mission to round up the Hell Hounds – Wolf Pact comes out in September of next year. And, the Witches of East End, another new series by Melissa, is out now, so there is plenty to help tide me over until the final conclusion to a series that I will dearly miss.
