Summer is my favorite season so every year since this book came out I have devoured it. It is a slice of summer to such a point that if in the middle of the doldrums of winter I need a little pick me up - this is the book that does it for me.
Susan Branch's art is accessible, homespun, adorable, charming - there aren't enough quietly twee words to describe it. She has a unique style all her own but reminiscent of Beatrix Potter.

Interspersed with recipes are helpful hints, memories of summer, and entertaining ideas. So I'm hanging on to this one.
This book has plenty of delicious summertime recipes using fresh produce and little cooking. The wonderful illustrations really liven up the text and remind you to have fun-its summertime! Summer cooking is a category that is too often over looked by chefs and book publishers. In the summer I want lots of fresh produce and I want to keep the heat out of the kitchen so I want to grill out or have plenty of recipes requiring little to no cooking. I just wish this cookbook was a bit longer with mor...more
Forget the food, it is the artwork and charming vignettes that shine here. Branch has gone on to become quite a commodity. Her artwork has been made into stickers and other fare for the scrapbook crowd. The Summer Book will make you long for the lazy, hazy days of summer evoking images of long evenings spent sitting on the back porch, batting the fireflies away, and whipping fresh-made peach ice cream drips from the chin. (Okay, so I've never actually done that but I can imagine what it is like....more
