Indigo is hired last minute to be a sushi model (a living, breathing food display platter!) for the very famous and talented Chef Banner Faust. Indigo is a fangirl of Banner's so she is both nervous and ecstatic to work with him.

Banner has devoted his life to becoming a top chef, but his personal relationships have suffered for it. Banner is a Dom in the Miami BDSM scene, though his need to find his perfect submissive has been pushed to the back burner, until he meets Indigo. Banner senses a submissive nature in Indigo that he longs to explore. He offers her a 3-day "trial" period to experience the pleasures of dominance and submission. A painful past has caused Indigo to build a tough, protective barrier around her true self to avoid being hurt again. Banner's challenge will be to break through those walls and show her how liberating the act of submission can be.

Fallon Blake is one of my tip-top favorite new-to-me authors I've discovered this year. I read her first book This Side of Heaven (an erotic paranormal romance) a few months ago, and I couldn't wait to see what she had in store for us next. Wrapped Around Your Finger was worth the wait! She has a very pleasant writing style, and her words flow together effortlessly. The characters are written so that the reader gets to know them right away. Indigo and Banner are both multidimensional and realistic, and they're believable as a couple.

So, what about the BDSM and sex? Scrumptious would be a good description considering this is culinary erotica! What can I say except that Banner is my kind of Dom. He's not into rigorous D/s protocol, though he doesn't mind Indigo calling him Sir. He's into gaining her trust and taking control so they both will have maximum pleasure (not to mention he's also quite charming and, of course, he's a great cook.) He has a very naughty use for ginger which is actually somewhat common in BDSM, though I've never seen it practiced in an erotic story. Bravo to the author for making something I was a bit scared of very erotic! Wrapped Around Your Fingers will appeal to fans of erotic romance and BDSM. Highly recommended!(less)

4 plus stars. This is too short to earn a coveted (yes, books do so happen to covet my approval) 5 star rating but I will say that this is probably one of the better erotic short stories I've read, considering there wasn't a ton of time to expand on the characters themselves.

I so wanted to like this more than I did!

There is so much to love about this book: I loved Indie (at first), I loved her clothes, I loved her hair, her tattoos, the fact that she was a plus sized fetish model. I was so excited about Indie being so different than a typical romance heroine.

What bothered me the most about this book was...the lack of tension and the overly fast pace of everything.

I'm going to be 100% honest here: I picked this book because of the cover. I have tattoos and it's not often enough you see a heroine with a unique style or flare. That said, I don't have any experience with bondage, so I have no scale by which to judge the subject matter. The story, however, is great. The answer is not too bad.

Indie (short for Indigo) gets a last minute gig as a living platter for a special sushi dinner being thrown by top chef Banner Faust. With her tattoos and blue-streaked hair, not to mention that she’s not the size two all the other girls are, she doesn’t fit the usual profile, but as she’s being hustled off to make-up to airbrush away her tats, she runs into the chef himself, who insists she be left as she is. Not only that, he wants her as his centerpiece, and so she is put on display right where he is working. The two have a brief exchange which ends with Banner making an offer for Indie to think about over the night – the next three days with him as his submissive. He’s been without for a long time, and Indie pushes all of his buttons. She, in turn, has always been curious about the lifestyle but never acted on it. Getting to learn something with a guy she admires – she’s going to culinary school, too – as well as wants seems like a win/win situation. So she arrives right on time the next morning to begin three days of bliss.

Though I can’t say that everything about this novella worked for me, it does have some shining features. Without a shadow of a doubt, the single best part of it is the careful and loving detail given to all the culinary aspects. Since it starts out immediately in a food setting, it provides a strong anchor for the rest of it to build on, with specific details to convince me of the world these characters live in (not to mention really sparking some serious sushi cravings). Some of this attention to detail extends to the BDSM scenes as well, specifically the figging scene the two undergo the first day they’re together. While I have a hard time accepting two veritable strangers undergoing such an act so quickly, it was written with a keen eye for realism (like the freezing of the ginger prior to using it).

Indie is another joy in this. It’s exciting to read about heroines who don’t fit the usual stereotype, and Indie breaks a lot of those molds. She’s got a Dita Von Teese flair to her style, though not nearly as sultry kitten in temperament. Indie uses her clothes, make-up, and tattoos to hide behind, a fact Banner picks up on almost right away. I liked her a lot, though I found her a little too quick to trust Banner and not always as non-bratty as she claimed to be. Still, she was strong-willed and resourceful, while still being submissive for him, and lends the story more verisimilitude as a result.

Where the story doesn’t work as well for me rests in two distinct areas. First, I didn’t fall for Banner. He was charming enough on the outside, but the man I met at the beginning of the story often disappeared throughout. He’s not into dominating through rules but rather through emotional control, and ends up coming across more than once as domineering rather than dominant. It’s a fine line, especially when a character is professed to be so otherwise tender and caring. His quickness to fall for Indie, too, suggests a more obsessive personality than I think the author intends. He makes the three-day offer specifically because he’s afraid of scaring her off by asking for more. For a man who has been out of the scene as long as he is, consumed by his work (even when it’s not as satisfying as he wanted it to be), it never felt realistic or organic that he would be so willing to fall head over heels for her so fast. And figging less than twenty-four hours after meeting a girl who has never been in the scene before? I don’t think so. He has no idea what kind of boundaries or barriers she might have. He’s still learning about her. In my opinion, it’s too soon, especially since they hadn’t really talked about what was going to happen in their time together by that point.

My other disappointment was in the BDSM aspect itself. Considering the daring personalities of both protagonists, I expected something explosive in their coming together. There’s hints of it early on, but too quickly, it boils down into what I consider more BDSM-lite. It’s all so very tasteful. Mannered, even. I never felt it combust, which is what really well written BDSM does. I do wonder if this stems from my failure to appreciate Banner as the romantic hero. Without falling for him, it’s too easy to become more aware and critical of other aspects. In the end, though, the result is the same. I didn’t react to the erotic portions of the story nearly as strongly as I’m sure the author intended.

At this point, I wouldn’t actively seek out more work by this author, but on the other hand, because of her clear research and love of unconventional heroines, I won’t dismiss it, either. Perhaps I won’t have the same difficulties with her next romantic hero. (less)

I absolutely loved Wrapped Around Your Finger by Fallon Blake. From the beginning the story had me captivated. Indigo was a fabulous heroine. I loved that she felt comfortable in her body even though she wasn’t a size two. Her personal choice of body art and hair deco gave additional insight to her need to be her own person. At the same time I could see how she used her clothing and copious amount of makeup to hide away.

To Banner, Indigo is perfect. Her blue streaked hair, her colorful tattoos, and her sassy yet sensitive and innocent nature draw him. And it doesn't hurt she's got the curves any sane man would love to get their hands on... And, it seems, she's a natural submissive.

One thing leads to another, and by the end of the evening Indie has agreed to spend three days with Banner at his home as the submissive to his Dom.

Overall, I liked the story. I liked the characters and the premise.

However, compared to other BDSM themed books, I found Wrapped Around Your Finger just not up to par with what I'm used to. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a submissive is to follow the rules the Dominant sets, right? One of the first things Banner tells Indie after she arrives at his place is that he's not a rule setting guy. Sure, she calls him Sir, and he paddles her behind red, there are cuffs involved and a public scene played before the end of the story.

It just... I don't know. Fell flat? The usual BDSM elements are missing. There is no actual D/s, just a few elements borrowed from the lifestyle that, honestly, anyone with a little imagination and desire to explore could try. The cuffs, the spanking, the restraints. To me, that doesn't spell BDSM. To me, BDSM is more of a mental thing.

But if I overlook the hey-let's-try-something-kinky-tonight and approach the story as a basic erotic romance, it has everything I like: the witty and sassy heroine, the alpha hero, and the smut. All in all, a very enjoyable read.(less)

I am such a huge, huge fan of Fallon Blake. Her "voice" as a writer is flawless...easy to read, engaging, and sometimes downright funny. I've had this story on my Kindle and I regret it took me so long to read it. This is more than a kinky story with BDSM elements and exceptionally written erotic scenes. So this novel is not an angsty one, which doesn't mean it's emotionally underdevelopment. Because since Ms Blake has focused her story mainly on the relationship building, there's plenty of room to explore her characters' emotions and feelings. I must admit that I would've liked to see a bit more of the hero's inner thoughts and feelings, since I felt the focus was more on the heroine than on the hero.

The BDSM scenes can probably considered being on the light side if it were not for the last scene, which takes place in public. The majority of the scenes are about obedience and control, there's a little spanking involved and some anal play, but hardly any bondage and no gags. I thought the sex scenes were scorching and super sexy, which shouldn't be a surprise with such a perfect and hot Dom controlling the scenes. Maybe my only complaint is that Banner felt a bit cliché as a Dom and too perfect, with him knowing exactly what was right for his sub Indie, whom he only just met. So, he seemed a bit too good to be true... And perhaps their whole relationship building went a bit too smoothly, especially given the fact that the story takes place in only three days.

But other than that this was a very enjoyable and sexy story which I couldn't put down and which I finished in nearly one breath. The author's engaging and pleasant writing style contributed to my reading pleasure, something I already experienced earlier with her first novel, This Side of Heaven, a paranormal book. No matter if Fallon Blake writes contemporary or paranormal romance, she knows how to hold my interest with her stories.

Wrapped around Your Finger by Fallon Blake offers two enticing things, woman that are plus-size and who have tattoos. Let’s be honest big girls need love too, and this book promises a love affair to remember for Indigo Hartley, a plus-sized model. While Indigo and love interest Banner Faust seem perfect for each other, Blake fails to deliver the spice and character development that would have made this book steamy. Instead, it is short and the BDSM is only semi-hot.
