This is the third book in the Psalm 23 Mysteries. I have read the other two also. You do not need to read them in order, but I recommend doing so, as the tension builds from one to the other. In case you need help, the first book is strangely enough(!) The Lord is My Shepherd, and the second book is I Shall Not Want. As of now, I don't think there is a fourth book, but I will need it soon, because Lie Down in Green Pastures ends with a cliff hanger. Not fair!

This book was the equivalent of being in an action-packed murder mystery for the movies. I found myself having to take a breath and put down the book, as it made my pulse rise. Seriously, I could see this novel being a motion picture...but, lucky us, readers, it is a book first!

By now I have grown fond of Cindy, our church secretary of First Shepard, and her co-hort in crime solving, Jeremiah, Rabbi from next door's Temple. I even like the homicide detectives that seem to always be assigned to t...more

I started and finished this book in one day which is not my norm for reading. I had previously read books 1 and 2 in this series which I mostly enjoyed. The story line for book 1 centered around killings taking place during the Holy Week prior to Easter and book 2 took place around the Thanksgiving holiday. This book takes place at the St. Patrick's day celebration.

The mystery and murders are surrounding property that is co-owned by several of the religious entities around town on which they hav...more

This is not, I repeat, NOT a cozy murder mystery. This is a bunch of other, mediocre things, but it's not cozy, and it's hardly a mystery. Murderous it is is, somewhat of a thriller it intents to be and it does have suspense. The writing leaves much to be desired; the editing... what editing? There are mistakes in every page. Words run together constantly likethis. A few times, I can let it go, but all the time, in almost every page is too much. Also, there are quite a few sentences that just do...more

This was the first in this series that I have had the chance to read. I will definitely be going back to read the first two.

On his day off, Jeremiah decided to drive in to the Synagogue to do a little work. On his way there, he was rear-ended by another car. As the accident happened, Jeremiah caught a glimpse of the other driver in his rear view mirror. Was it his imagination or was the other driver already dead before the impact?

For once, Cindy is the one to come out and help Jeremiah. Against...more

I found the three books of this series for free as a promotional on Amazon, and I wasn't careful enough about determining which was the first of the series, so I read the last one first. As such, some of my comments may not make sense if you have read the other books. In any case, I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It started a little slowly, but with enough going on to keep my interest. Then, the last few chapters turned fairly dark, (view spoiler)[I was not expecting police brutality or a .50 ca...more

This book had promise. Other than the fact that reviewers kept calling it "cosy," which for some reason annoyed the heck out of me, I liked the idea of the church secretary and the rabbi teaming up to solve crimes. In actuality, I had some difficulties even getting into this story initially. It is the third in the series (of which I did not read the first two--this one was free). This book did not really stand alone. There were numerous references to their prior activities and some character dev...more

Cindy's church. Jeremiah, being very observant, is pretty sure that the driver of the other car was already dead before the impact. Cindy contacts the police, and once again, Jeremiah and Cindy become involved in yet another murder mystery involving their small town.

I liked that we got to know more about Mark (a police detective we have gotten to know throughout the series) and also focused more on Jeremiah and his abilities which shine further light into his past life before his life as a refor...more

I didn’t read the second in the series; and perhaps the transition was needed, although this one can stand alone. This is the third, and it finds Cindy and Jeremiah both restless and dissatisfied with their lives. Why is Jeremiah’s dark side coming out? Why doesn’t Cindy have any friends? Their angst is shown against the backdrop of murders and a controversy over the sale of Green Pastures,( a community youth camp area)—and overpowers the first half of the book. I almost quit on the book but am...more

I was fortunate to get to read these books in order and for free via Nook free download (also downloaded via Kindle app). I cannot say that reading them out of order would have taken away from the story, but certainly because I had more time invested, I certainly have come to care for the characters more. This is of course one of the reasons I really enjoy book series. It is always like catching up with family.

This time the series opens with Jeremiah heading off to work on his day off (never do...more

I'm undecided about this one. When the story started, I thought the main character was somewhat insipid and immature. Later on the action was good and kept my interest. However, there are too many questions left unanswered at the end, obviously so you'll buy the next in the serier. The rabbi Jeremiah has an obvious military past, one that he desperately wants to forget but you don't get any details there. Cindy, the main character, has some angst about her sister's death and her own fears but th...more

This is definitely not a COZY mystery but rather an action packed thriller. Especially the last third. If you don't mind a little bit of gruesomeness, this is a good read. Once again the church secretary finds herself involved with the rabbi next door in the midst of murder and mayhem. I will definitely go back and read Psalm 23 Mysteries #1 and #2.

I do have one complaint about this kindle novel. The editing is horrific and the amount of run together words is unbelievable. This should be correct...more

Lie Down In Green Pastures by Debbie Viguié

This is the 3rd book in Debbie Viguié's Psalm 23 Mystery series.

You can read my review of the first book, The Lord is my Shepherd by clicking here, and my review of the second book, I Shall Not Want by clicking here.

You can read this book as a stand alone, or read it after the first two. I recommend the latter just because it adds some extra details.

My Review: Originally Published in Suspense Magazine

Meet Jeremiah and Cindy: Jeremiah is a rabbi and Cindy a church secretary. People are dying around them and it seems to be linked to a developer who wants to buy Green Pastures Campground. They join forces to try to get to the bottom of things before more people are killed.

Reading this book gave me a look at the different ways people handle relationships and danger. It shows the reader that it is possible to pull strength out from down deep ins...more

The third and, supposedly final outing for the church secretary and the rabbi as they battle unscrupulous land developers and smarmy real estate agents to save a children's camp. I say "supposedly" because there are quite a few loose ends - including one dropped out of thin air in the last two paragraphs - that I want cleared up. Debbie, WE MUST HAVE ANOTHER BOOK!
Lots of fun and terror with the campers. I really like these characters and hope to see them again in another book.

I actually BOUGHT this installment. (The first 2 were free on the Kindle). This was really good as the first two, though I missed the normal amount of interaction between Cindy and Jeremiah. This story sadden me in a couple of ways but I won't share in a review, wouldn't want to post a spoiler. Again the author gives a creative story line and it's fun watch the characters develop.
Book 4 is coming out soon and I'm looking forward to reading it as well.

A fast paced and exciting cozy mystery. I like this one a lot, probably the best of the three in the series. I really liked that it added much more depth to Jeremiah, and that Cindy was able to come to grips with being able to stand up for herself more.

The eBook had numerous formatting errors with words running together, split up or having inappropriate capitalization. At times it was a bit annoying.

I read the first one in the series and really liked the characters. This book was free on my kindle, and I am hoping that is the only reason why the editing was so sloppy. The plot was a bit extreme and certainly unrealistic, but it is a fast read, and I always love a mystery. Not worth running out to buy, but if your library has it, it is a vacation/ beach read for any mystery fan.

Jeremiah is recovering from a car accident. Cindy who is a church secretary comes to inform Jeremiah that is the man who caused the accident has been murdered. Cindy knows she can help the police, but Jeremiah is determined not to get involved. Jeremiah goes with the campers to the woods and when the lake starts rising things start to happen. This book is not a stand alone read. There are some instances where things are referenced form before but you can get confused, lost or not understand. I w...more

I think this is my favorite so far. It shows growth of both the Main characters in different areas. I loved the camp stuff with Jeremiah feeling out of place then all the sudden in his element. And. Shout out to the Eagle Scouts in the book. Well done, well done. On to #4 with "Restoreth My Soul" downloading as well!

I was eager to see if Jeremiah got through his grumpiness... but still had to wade through a lot of it in this book. This part in the series focuses more on him which helps to get to know him better. There was an unexpected sad scene, which left me a bit confused. Then the ending was a total surprise.

I am really enjoying this series! Not only is it a fast paced novel, but things happen in every chapter (often on every page)! This one had an awful amount of editing problems (words run together, left out) but, it didn’t take away from the story! GREAT summer read! Can’t wait to get more in the series!
Marilyn
I have enjoyed this series very much. The plots are good and the characters are likeable. By the third book, the religious aspect is not as bold as the first book. Much better this way. My only problem with the series is that there must be a 4th book. How can you leave it this way. Its a cliff hanger with more than one hanging!! We've been left in a state of confusion. Paul? Jeremiah? Cindy and Jeremiah? Mark? Please get a 4th book out!
Julie
You wouldn't think a book about a church secretary and a rabbi would be violent but this one definitely was. Not that it made me think less of the book. Just warning potential readers. I'm ready for the next one.
Norma
This was the third book in this series and I thought it was the best one. The author really developed the characters to the point where I could actually see and relate to them. My favorite is Jeremiah. After reading this one, I was sad to see it end on the cliffhanger. I'm looking forward to the 4th book to see how Cindy and Jeremiah's relationship develops. Great read!
Amy
The series improves over its earlier entries. It continues to address the concerns of characters who continue to find themselves involved in mysteries. The series is also not too heavy handed in the religous theme.
Janet
This book remined me of the Jan Karon series with Father Tim. I would loike to read more of her series. The ending left you hanging and wondering about the charactors. Very Light Reading. I did think the questions at the end of the book interesting.
