It's real review time. Jasmine’s a nurse who is feeling crappy and is sent home from work early. She’s a trooper though and decides to walk, as she normally does, but on this fateful night she happens to walk past Corin who recognizes the “scent” of change. He is a vampire who holds the title of “Executioner” and it’s his job to destroy all unauthorized vampire fledglings. And this one is definitely unauthorized. Her smell intoxicates him and he follows her home.

Jasmine’s a bit taken aback to f...more

I found this a good erotic read and I did enjoy it. It has a lot of emotions and action. I really enjoyed the storyline and the way the author takes these two though their predicament. I try my best not to give spoilers in my reviews, but I need to worn you this one will have them, so if you don’t want SPOLIERS please stop reading. Sorry it’s the only way I can explain the 3 stars

I loved the heroine Jasmine she is very strong and willing to do anything, but let this vampire execute her. She know...more

What an emotional battle between love, loyalty, duty, and death. I feel like I have been on one long emotional roller coaster in this story. It was an ok read for me but not a read where it totally Wow’d me. Anyone who reads this book will either love it or hate it. I fall in-between. I didn’t know what to think in the beginning at first and by the time I got towards the end all these emotions hit me and I just knew it was going to end badly but the author really surprised me with a Happy Ending...more

When Jasmine goes home from the hospital sick from what she thinks is the flu, she encounters a handsome man she wishes she had the energy to pursue. Hours later, weak with a heat that burns from within, he appears in her room to sate the need that is leaving her in agony... and to tell her he is to be her executioner.
Years of working for the vampire council have left Corin cold and empty. That is until the hot bands of Jasmines arms wrap around his very soul. Brought back to life by her touch,...more

I just didn't have the will left in me to read this book page by page. So I skipped (more than half of the book) and come to the conclusion that I haven't missed anything important.

Oh, I did try to enjoy it, very much so, but having read the first seven chapters (all of them, and I mean ALL), revolving around sex between the main characters, it got boring. A flat line of boorishness, because as much as I love sex scenes, the idea that a book must revolve around sex is stupid to me. Sex is not th...more

Recommends it for: Over 18 due to strong sexual content
Jasmine goes home from work feeling like she has the bad case of the flu. What she has, though, is an unapproved case of vampirsim. Corin, an executioner sent by the Council, is supposed to assassinate Jasmine once her transition is completed and he must also end the life of her sire for creating an unsanctioned vampire. Once Corin starts questioning Jasmine, she claims she does not have a sire. The situation Jasmine finds herself in is unprecedented and invites Corin to investigate the circumst...more

Hunger Aroused is everything that the title implies: the new, instinctual urges a newly turned vampire (and to some extant, seasoned vampire) has when the hunger takes over. It's a sensation that causes the vampire to become highly aroused. But, being aroused is only the beginning for the heroine of this action-packed story. When vampire executioner, Corin, comes to take her life, arousal turns in to something much more dangerous...love.

I have to admit that it took me awhile...more

When I found this book on netGalley, I was unsure about how much I would like it. The synopsis did NOT do it justice, and I found myself really enjoying this read!

Jasmine and Corin's relationship starts out as nothing more than her being a "mark" for execution, but as the story unfolds, it quickly becomes one of the better paranormal romance novels that I've had the pleasure of reading. Both characters are interesting and captivating in their own ways, and this book tells of a struggle between...more

I needed a good paranormal romance, so thanks NetGalley and Carina Press for allowing me to read this before its release.

Now, there is mention of m/m and some details that surround that, but I'm sort of into m/m, so I was fine with it. I didn't like how it was done because I'm never alright with forced sex, but it all played into Corin's backstory and why he is the way he is. I saw the reasoning behind it, even if I didn't like reading about it.

Anyway, I did like Corin and Jasmine, both together...more

I took a day off from work...played a little Wednesday hookie. This book was the perfect fit for a little self indulgent escape. In a flooded vampire market it's hard to find a 'fresh' view. Hunger Aroused it's just another vampire book. The characters are great. Not mindless vampire guy seeking sex while mindless human/almost vampire woman who can't say no. There is plenty of heat :) but the author introduces them with such a flare you're instantly invested in them. The pace is great. It's fast...more

You know the book is worth your while when there’s some smut introduced in the first chapter! Good start to a new vampire paranormal romance series.

Wow. This book was hot. Really. Really. Hot.

Jasmine is a nurse who is transitioning into a vampire. She wasn’t turned in the traditional way, with biting and blood sucking. Rather, she was infected by a tainted needle and has no idea what is going on. That is, until she has the (mis)fortune of running into Corin on the street. He is an executioner for the Vampire Council. It is his job to eradicate fledglings and punish their sires for unauthorized turnings. He can smell the scent of transition...more

Jasmine, a nurse, is a work-a-holic dedicated to helping those in need. She is alone in the world, with no family and few friends to share her life with. Walking home, after leaving work early due to sudden illness, she encounters the most intriguing stranger and even thinks to herself that she would have attempted to flirt with him if she weren't knocking at death's door. After a feverish nap, she is awakened, in her home by the handsome stranger who offers relief for what is ailing her--she ha...more

I Liked -- Plot: This is not your average vampire romance story. Dee Carney has contrived a pretty unique plot to move the story along, and force the two main characters into each other's company. Though Corin, who is supposed to eliminate Jasmine, has a tough shell, much of his backstory is explained through flashbacks. Sometimes, this can be an iffy venture, but Carney handles it pretty well, and I enjoyed learning more about the man than...more

Lia's Review

The instant I opened this book on my e-reader, I was transformed into a dark world, where order and disorder are ruled by a council of elder vampires. A world where a vampire hunter is sent to kill an innocent woman who has no idea how she became one of them.

The characters were enjoyable to read and I loved the fact that both of them grew and evolved by the end. The plot was constantly moving forward with minimal dragging moments. The love scenes were erotic, and the book simply flo...more

Jasmine things she has the flu, but actually, somewhere along the way—probably at her nursing job in the hospital ER—she managed to become infected with vampirism. Corin, is a vampire assassin. He is charged by the Council to enforce the rules against unapproved turnings. Typically this would mean monitoring the three day transition and then destroying the new vamp as well as the maker. Unfortunately, Jasmine doesn’t have a maker to guide her through the painful transition. Since Corin is not al...more

This is the first book by Mrs Carney I've read, but I'm sure it won't be the last. The H/H story is intense and full of angst, but even though they know each other only for a few hours, their attraction & subsequent feelings are something natural thanks to the writer's great storytelling.
Oh yeah, the sex scenes are pretty hot too.

Hunger Aroused is the first book in this series. I really liked this book. It was a fantastic introduction into Dee’s world of vampires. It’s hot, it’s erotic, it’s AWESOME! Yes. Yes. I loved it. It was quick, it was dirty, it was…….hmmm…….

Jasmine gets sick one day while at work. She’s nurse at a local hospital. Her boss sends her home and along the way she passes by Corin, who happens to be a vampire executioner. He’s on order by the vampire council. Jasmine’s turning wasn’t sanctioned by the...more

When I first started reading this book I was a little baffled about how the vampire transformation occurred. Jasmine just thinks that she's coming down with some random bug and feels like death-warmed-over. When she finally reaches the comfort of her bed, vampire executioner Cornin is there to take her back to the council so that she can be disposed of. Sounds like a great scenario huh? Yeah well just when he thinks that his plan won't have any hiccups, Cornin finds himself helping Jasmine throu...more

Although there were some problems with bad editing, Ms. Carney pulled off a great story. I will warn you now, if you can't handle erotica, don't bother reading this book. For smut lovers, this one needs to be in your collection.

This book is about a 30ish single nurse who leaves work gravely ill from a medical mystery. She stumbles into a man on her way home, a chance encounter, that changes the course of her life. Her name is Jasmine (I had to get over that personal ick) and unknown to her, she...more

Jasmine has been taken ill, so ill she feels like she's going to die. Little does she know, in a matter of a few short days, her illness may prove to be as deadly as she thinks it is. Somehow, she become infected with the unimaginable, and there's no cure.

Corin is an executioner, and he's very good at his job, the Council calls him whenever there's a difficult job and someone as broken the rules. But now he comes to question if maybe the rules haven't become arcane themselves, especially after h...more

The character development was terrific and made sense. I wished the story had been longer. The author didn't cram too much into each page, something that drives me nuts in short stories. The style reminded me of J.R.Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I'm excited to see more by Dee Carney.

To be fair, while Hunger Aroused's story is pretty much your basic hardcore romance set in bland Generic Vampire World A, it's also one of the least crazy/thinly-veiled excuses for stringing together sex scenes that I've read so far. Granted, my experience with 'erotica' is limited to four books, but hey, I've still read dumber. Then again, if we're to judge erotica on different standards, perhaps this book's restraint and blandness doesn't work in its favor? I mean, where a story about a reform...more

This was the first time that I have ever read anything from Dee Carney. I now need to go on a massive book hunt so that I can find more of her work. Her writing is very refreshing.

This is the story of an accidental vampire. Jasmine had no idea that she was transitioning into a vampire. The only thing she did know was that she was sick. Real sick with what she thought was the flu. Being sent home while on the job was hard for her no nonsense type attitude, but her boss had been right to send her...more

I must admit that I avoided vampire novels for a long time. With so many out there, I just felt overwhelmed. After reading excerpts from 'Hunger Aroused' on Dee's Six Sentence Sunday blog posts, I decided to buy it shortly after its release. I wish I'd read it sooner.

Wow! These vampires are drool-worthy, perhaps not all of them, but most definitely Corin. I just couldn't get enough. Corin and Jasmine seemed so real. When Jasmine went through her change, her reactions were exactly what I imagine...more

Truth be told, when I first saw Hunger Aroused by Dee Carney available as an ARC for review in Netgalley, I wasn’t exactly 100% interested. Why? Because Hunger Aroused is classified as a paranormal romance, and somehow, i had enough of vampire and all those Gothic stuff that’s not even scary or thrilling in the first place.

While this book is not something that I would usually read, I enjoyed it n...more

I thought I’d read about every type of vampire possible, but I was wrong. In Dee Carney’s world, where their existence is hidden, vampirism can be spread via contaminated needles. So when a vampire is severely injured and taken to receive medical care Nurse Jasmine is there to help. But in the ensuing struggle, she’s stuck with the needle she’d used on him thus discovering a new and unheard of way to create vampires.

At 184 pages, it’s a breeze to read. The heat level is set at “hot” so have a...more

Dee writes erotic romances in the urban fantasy, paranormal and contemporary genres. She also writes erotica under the pen name, Morgan Sierra.

Dee began writing short stories in middle school, but did not attempt completion of a novel until almost ten years later—which despite good intentions was never finished. Almost ten additional years later, she challenged herself to begin writing again, and...more
