If you hang around with dead people, life can get pretty complicated. Take it from Charley Davidson, part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Complicated is her middle name. The deceased find her very sparkly. Demons find her irresistible. And one entity in particular wants to seduce her in every way possible.

When Charley and Cookie (her best friend/recept

I love Charley.

I love Reyes.

I love the twisty mystery.

I love the incorporeal sexytimes.

I hate waiting for the next book.

That is all.

Don’t worry, Darynda Jones succeeded. Twice.

The second time around our favorite grim reaper gets into all kinds of trouble. She has three cases to solve and a messy love life to deal with. The man of our her dreams is in danger and Charley will move heaven and earth to help him. Who wouldn’t?

Reyes is even more mysterious now than he was in the first book when we knew nothing about him other than how incredibly handsome he is.

Well, it’s official. Charley Davidson is one of my most favorite book characters of all time. Oh my gosh I love this girl. Yes, I’m having a silly fan-girl moment where I end up saying things like, ‘I’m going to be Charley Davidson for Halloween!” She’s not just funny, she is absolutely hilarious and I cannot get enough. If you've read the first novel (which you definitely should before reading this one or you'll be super duper confused) then you'll remember laughing practically every s

Bahahahahaha. I'm still laughing. I think I liked this second book even better than the first. Darynda definitely didn't slack off with book #2. She gave us another great, fabulous, funny as heck novel.

What a ride!!! Charley is back to her old tricks and witty sarcasm. I found the plot in this one much more interesting and equaling a wild roller coaster ride. She is working on a new case, trying to solve the mystery behind Mimi's disappearance; Someone is hiding a big secret from way back in hi

I abso-freaking-lutely loved it! (I totally stole that one from Charley.)

Charley is as badass and kickass as ever!

Reyes is as hot and enigmatic as ever!

The story is as twisty and mysterious as ever!

My love for this series is as strong as ever!

That is all.

And now, have a good laugh :)

Agh and here we are. I have zero time to write a review, but I am going to do my best to make time to come back and add some of the awesome quotes (my fav part to show) I stashed away and to express my feelings for this book.

This series is so...not what I expected. On the one hand, I love parts of it. On the other hand...I need more Reyes and I need less religious talk. So. While Charley was WAY better in this one, meaning she wasn't tooooooo jokey, it wasn't enough to make me love t

Second read:

Things got better, I guess because of the fact that I know what's going to happen to Charley and Reyes. I'm not going to even try to convince you that I'm reading this series for another reason. Because I'm not.

4 stars. I'm weak ;_;

First read:

Ooooh kay. Nothing happened. No, drama llama happened. Lots of Reyes-related drama llama.

There were things that I kind of liked in this one. I’m having déjà vu, aren’t you? Anyways, I kind of liked Charley’s character development. I like that Re

Snarky, sassy, and silly Charley is back! There is another mystery to solve and with the help of her best friend and personal assistant, Charley once again is on the hunt for a killer.

Reyes is attempting to drive her crazy, though...between using his sexy self to drive Charley wild with lust and his staunch intent to kill his corporeal body for a myriad of reasons, the son of Satan seems to hinder Charley's life more than help her. But he does add that sexy element to the book, and keeps this s

If I have learned anything from Charley during the 600+ pages we've shared together, it's from her lessons in statement writing. So, in honor of Charley's mad writing skills, my review goes something like this ...

I read the book. It was brilliant. Reyes was hot. It was funny too.

The end.

... Pretty good, right?

Series like this one are the main reason for why I became completely obsessed with this genre in the first place. I always love to find new entertaining and captivating UF series as it helps me to remember why I love it so much. I am always the first to agree it is not an easy genre to read mainly because if it's wrongly written it can be one of the worst reads you'll ever have. But when you find an author that makes the genre proud, you feel like all those other failures you went through to get ...more

2.5 stars Oh Charley, Charley, Charley. Just when I think I might be starting to like you, you show me what a truly selfish and short-sighted bitch you really are.

Lets start at the beginning. Ms. Jones finally found that correct mixture of saucyness and snark that comes across more endearing than annoying. Charley was still quick witted but she came across more as a real person. I have to admit though, I still don't feel a connection with any of the characters.

I know what Jones is trying to do w

If you’re packing a pair of DDs beneath your peek-a-boo blouse, you may want to keep the following in mind: “With great breasts comes great responsibility.” Or so says a t-shirt. That I briefly considered acquiring simply for the amusement factor alone. Maybe I could get my wife to wear it. Although there’s a more than good chance she probably won’t find it nearly amusing as I did. Really there's two things that I enjoy about this series and that's Charley's snark and Reyes....everything else is just bonus.

Don't get me wrong...the mysteries are interesting and there is a lot going on but sometimes it seems as if there is too much happening. On top of that, we get little clues dropped here and there and I was finding myself going back and forth to make sure I was getting things right. It's a bit frustrating because that is exactly how we are getting to know most of the cha

This is the second book in the awesome ‘Charley Davidson’ series. Charley is THE Grim Reaper (she sees the departed and they literally cross through her to the other side) and also she is part time private investigator. Furthermore she is tough, smart, funny… not to mention a bit insane but in a good way!!! She has a new case- a missing woman who is also Cookie’s friend. She manage to leave a clue so Charley, her uncle and Cookie are going to try eve

It's getting better and better.

But I find one thing a little annoying, Charley hid what she is all her life and now she is telling it left and right to all around her, with the exception of her Dad. And she is still acting like a little child most of the time, good thing she is funny.

Book 3, here I come.

Second Grave on the Left is the second installment in the Charley Davidson series, a paranormal mystery series written by author Darynda Jones. This second book continues our female grim reaper’s story from book one while offering a new and fresh mystery. But I missed the romance aspect that was infused bit by bit in the first book. It’s still in this one kinda sorta, although even more secondary than it was in the first one. I really hope it picks up in future installments.

I scooted through the basement window on my stomach and dropped into a somersault, landing on my feet on the cement slab of the basement. ‘Cause that’s how I roll.

The times I’d tried that same maneuver only to land on my ass with dirt and cobwebs coating my hair didn’t count.

This story had me cracking up many times. Darynda Jones really knows how to write humor. From her funny bumper-sticker and T-shirt chapter headings to Charley's always sarcastic take on life, this is very entertaining:

I stopped fighting my inner demons. We're on the same side now.--T-shirt

Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?--Bumper sticker

I sort of got off on making bad guys sweat. Which was not unlike my love of making good guys sweat, just by very different means.--Ch

I can't go higher than 2 stars. I'm in the minority here but I found this book to be so boring. Once you move past Charley's humor, there isn't much to the book.

Charley Davidson is up to her usual antics in Second Grave, and is dare I say even funnier in this installment than the last. I can pretty much guarantee witty, LMFAO humor on every page (at least, that's what it was like for me). She'll keep you up laughing for hours, and you won't be able to sleep!

The plot in Second Grave was more interesting for me as well, the mystery more realistic and intense and the structure more coherent. I'

Charley Davidson is back in Second Grave on the Left, Darynda Jones’ second installment in her quirky and wonderful series. I enjoyed the first book immensely. I found Charley to be a really fun read and I found the story to be very well told. And you know what? Book two was even better.

As with the last book, we follow Charley as she investigates a case (she is a PI after all). This time around, she is trying to find Mimi, a friend of Charley’s b

This book was awesome! Did I like it as much as the first? Well no, not really but that doesn't mean it wasn't fabulous!

Charley as always gets in trouble every ten minutes, Reyes as always is there to save the day half the times. I have to admit that I like the bad Reyes more than the good one (always had a thing for bad boys).

I won't say much, mostly because I have two more to read and this one was cliffhanger-ish so I have to move to the next, so I'll just say that Charley is definitely in my

I'm so conflicted. While I love the humor and all things Charley, I still can not for the life of me get why this book is classified as a "sexy romance", cause it is NOT that. There is no sex, and frankly no romance. ??? Charley crushes on the son of satan, who is not even physically whole at this point. (again, ???? WTF??!!) Oh well, blame it on the greedy publishers I guess. But as far as an Urban Fantasy paranormal fiction book goes (which is the true classification) it was great. This book r ...more

Ta jí totiž volala a žádala o pomoc.

Pro Charley to není zase tak neobvyklý začátek dne, ale když se konečně dostanou na místo, po kamarádce není ani stopy,

Charley makes me laugh. She is so snarky and I enjoy her sence of humor.
Cookie is my all time fave. Best side kick/assistant EVER.

Reyes. Oh you.

I just can't get into him. He is moody and I don't like how Charley gets all swoony (its a word now. Deal.) around him. He growls all the time and pouts and gets cranky. He is like a girl perpetually in PMS mode.

The first part of the book spends too much time going over everything

I just finished, and I can't make up my mind about it. On the one hand, I wasn't bored by it - I read it every chance I had (it has been kind of busy the last 2 days), and I liked the Mimi storyline, so that was all good. But on the other, I feel strung along. We're two books in, and I still feel like I have no idea about Charley's abilities, limitations, role, ... who in holy hell is she? So, okay. Reyes is the son of Satan, as we found out in the last book. He carries on him the key to hell. H ...more
