Oliver Stone is recruited by the President of the United States to help serve his country on a top secret mission. In exchange for his services, Stone will never have to worry about the government knocking on his door again. The offer is too good for Stone to refuse.

Stone is standing outside in Lafayette park, outside of the White House, enjoying his last night before he heads out of the country. High dignitaries are heading to their cars after being wined and dined at a dinner honoring the Bri...more

I'm in the middle of this one. The Camel Club is my favorite of David Baldacci's series because of its misfit crew led by a homeless vet who lives in a cemetery a little north of Georgetown. It is also propitious as I have been working a 1/2 block from Hell's Corner which is actually Lafayette Park across from the white house. Lately I have been thinking that Baldacci should add a DC contract attorney to his ragtag group of ragamuffins. During periods between jobs I have worked as a contract att...more

Although the ending was for the birds, up to the very last few pages this book was prime thriller material and kept me completely engrossed.

Hell’s Corner by Baldacci
I have really enjoyed reading most of Baldacci’s Camel Club series, including The Collectors, Stone Cold, Divine Justice and The Whole Truth. The eclectic cast of characters with Oliver Stone at the center keeps the reader captivated by their research, planning the next dangerous move and their relationship twists and turns. In this book, there is a disaster and huge security threat when a bomb goes off in the root of a tree in Lafayette Park across from he White House....more

David Baldacci is one of my top ten favorite authors. I have read his previous nineteen novels, all NYT bestsellers and enjoyed them all to a high degree, so when I got this my fingers were tingling, ready to turn the pages and enjoy. Here is the synopsis of the novel:’ John Carr, aka Oliver Stone-once the most skilled assassin his country ever had-stands in Lafayette Park in front of the White House, perhaps for the last time. The president has personally requested that Stone serve his country...more

You will not be able to put this book down

Oliver Stone has led so many lives he lost count. For all the losses he has suffered there has been the gain in his friends and cohorts known as the Camel Club. A group of people that are as different they come together and make one large, right group. They solve crimes, take care of each other and never fail to have one...more

Oh my David -- I long for the days gone by when you really dug deep for your clues -- and drove mystery and intrigue from carefully deposited hints and facts -- etc-- But this one seems so convenient-- Whatever you need --you just write it in-- without allowing us to find the foreshadowing you used to expertly weave into the storytelling-- that made them believable-- In this one although half of Washington lie dead in the path of Oliver-- The villain was not only impossible to imagine but her pa...more

Excellent as an audiobook. I chose it because it seemed likely to entertain both my husband and myself on a road trip. I did not know that it was the fifth in a series about Oliver Stone (the first that we've read), but it made little difference. Whatever background information we needed was provided without much disruption to the story. Oliver Stone is an aging former FBI agent and first-rate assassin for the US government. He is called back into service with the backing of the president, but w...more

The Camel Club books are my favorites from David Baldacci - I am not sure why, maybe because one of the characters works in the Library of Congress. Actually it is more because of Oliver Stone, the well worn agent, who has been in Nam and the Cold War, who still solves major problems for our country, even if he has not been treated well half the time. He is good at what he does, deduces things, bends rules when needed, and attracts strong women. This was my favorite of the series, with plenty of...more

“Hell’s Corner”
I hope you got a book for Christmas. I did – surprise! I suppose it’s difficult to buy a gift book for someone who reads a lot. One of the books I received was a good-for-nothing read just-for-enjoyment novel titled “Hell’s Corner”. It’s by one of my favorite authors, David Baldacci and I enjoyed taking a break after Christmas with a good book.

The story begins in Lafayette Park, Washington, D.C. aka Hell’s Corner. It’s named for the law enforcement jurisdictional nightmare created...more

Hell's Corner takes Oliver Stone into a new direction, as he returns to working for the government that once spurned him and of whom he was among it's biggest critics. This takes a little getting used to. And despite being away for a couple of decades, Stone seems to easily navigate within his new confines.

Also, Hell's Corner becomes more of an Oliver Stone book rather than a Camel Club book with the team relegated more towards the background. This is a little disappointing, especially for those...more

From Publishers Weekly
Baldacci's implausible fifth Camel Club novel (after Divine Justice) disappoints with cartoonish plotting and characterization. The night after the U.S. president persuades former assassin Oliver Stone (aka John Carr) to re-enter government employment to tackle the growing threat of Russian drug gangs, Stone finds himself in Lafayette Park, across the street from the White House, when gunfire breaks out and a bomb explodes. Apparently, the intended target was the visiting B...more

It has been a while since I had read Baldacci's series the Camel Club and thought I would see if this book was an improvement in the series. I found the majority of this book to be entertaining with adequate character and plot development. Again, the reader finds John Carr, aka Oliver Stone, called back into service by the President of the United States. With great misgivings, Stone takes the assignment and quickly finds himself paired with a young, female British MI6 agent and together they are...more

As is the case with most Baldacci outings, this most recent Camel Club novel has lots of fun plot twists and turns. Unfortunately, as is also the case with most Baldacci outings, this one also has lot of plot developments that make that whole suspension of disbelief thing difficult. Still, it *is* the Camel Club here, so we're talking about a truly awesome cast of supporting characters, even if we see far too little of them this time around, given that Stone becomes an official government agent...more

By David Baldacci, Grade: A. #5 in Camel club Series.
David Baldacci has a new fan now. When I accepted the book for reviewing, I hadn’t heard of Mr. Baldacci. After reading the novel, I am beginning to think that I must have been living under a rock for the past few years to not have heard about a writer as brilliant as he. In simple words, this book was awesome. Hence, Mr. Baldacci has a new fan now. Me.

I read the paperback version of this book. It is 600+ pages and I wish I’d read it on my Kindle it would have been easier to handle!

This is the fifth Camel Club book, a group of misfits and loners who have come together throughout the series. The interaction between the characters is always very entertaining, though the main protagonist, Oliver Stone, takes centre stage once again. Stone is a man with a triple six killer past and a knack for getting the best out of his friends. The establishment...more

Is David Baldacci one of your favorite writers? Do you enjoy Oliver Stone and the Camel Club? Can our intelligence agencies protect us? Are you an American? If your answer to these questions was a heartfelt and loud "YES", then you are going to just LOVE Hell's Corner!

This book is absolutely the best of the Camel Club series to date. From the first ten pages to the last three, this book will keep your mind running wildly in circles trying to keep up with the twists and turns in this plot. And, a...more

4 stars because I was so looking forward to reading this latest installment in the Camel Club series. I've really enjoyed the series; seeing how characters developed and stepped up to the challenges Baldacci has placed before them. I admire the loyalty and support the group engendered. Originally became a loyal reader because one of the characters is a librarian at the Library of Congress and I was curious to see how Baldacci would develop the character; not so well in this particular story, bet...more

I thought the Camel Club was history....until I found volume five in the library...here we go again. John Carr is alive and well in a well conceived and twisting plot about a bombing near the White House in his beloved Lafayette Park. Add a Brit, a host of half truths and deceit, plus misdirection and you have a page turning plot that keeps you guessing. Baldacci's story almost sees then end of John and others in his entourage. But you can never get a handle on how an explosion occurred until yo...more

A 5-star rating for a book writen by an author whose name is genrally larger than the title on teh dust cover? Yeah, I was shocked too! I am a big fan of David Baldacci and regularly give his books 4-star ratings. But 5? This one was, for me, a hit out of the ball park!

Up to this point, I've only read the first book in Baldacci's Camel Club series and if I remember correctly I was particularly overwhelmed by it. The plot of Hell's Corner intrigued me enough to ignore the fact I was going to enc...more

I discovered that Hell’s Corner is David Baldacci’s 5th book in the Camel Club series. I have not read the first four books in this series but luckily this book is able to stand on its own without requiring my setting it aside to read the others first. Like most “spy/assassin” novels these days the premise for Hell’s Corner is a little hard to swallow, but if you accept it, the rest of the book is a fun ride.

Oliver, who used to be known as John Carr, is an ex-US assassin who has been screwed ove...more

David Baldacci returns to the Camel Club series with Hell's Corner. Oliver Stone, America's most deadly protester is brought back in to work for the government which he has been protesting against for the last 30 years. But when a bomb explodes right across the street from the White House it's clear that things aren't always as clear as they seem, especially when they aren't clear to begin with! Stone must weigh his concern for the other members of the Camel Club against getting the help he need...more

On the night of the State Dinner honouring the British Prime Minister, Oliver Stone witnesses an explosion as the motorcade leaves the White House. A bomb has been detonated in what looks like a terrorist plot directed at the President and the Prime Minister. In the aftermath, British MI5 agent Mary Chapman, an experienced, lethal operative with an agenda of her own, is sent to assist and coordinate the investigation alongside American authorities. Stone, together with Harry Finn, Alex Ford and...more

I love David Baldacci's "Camel Club" series. This one, however, is by far the best. 14+ hours on audio, and 103 chapters! You would think that would get really drawn out but it didn't.

I was hooked right away and couldn't wait to find out what happened next!

More endearing to me was the incredible character developments. I left this book feeling like I knew each of the characters even more fully then in the previous four books.

Also, I figured out one of the guilty parties but was pleasantly surpr...more

I have liked the other Baldacci books about the Camel Club, but this one was one too many. For one thing, I couldn’t think of a single reason the president of the United States would call on Oliver Stone to stop the Russians from taking over the Mexican drug trade. Was there no one in the CIA, NSA, or FBI who would be better prepared to do this than an aging assassin? Not to worry, before he can get started on that assignment, there is an assassination attempt on the British PM and he must help...more

I have read several David Baldacci novels before, so I grabbed this one at the library without knowing what it was about. What a thrill ride! The book follows Oliver Stone, an ex-CIA spy that just wants to be left alone and lead a quiet life. He gets snatched up by the government and strong-armed into performing another undercover operation, but before it even starts, he gets sucked into a bombing investigation in Lafayette Park, across from the White House. The storyline has a lot of twists and...more

Oliver Stone isn’t getting any younger, but his government still wants him. In fact, everyone from the President himself to the FBI, to NCA, to the M16 (yes you read that right), want him.

The book starts off with Stone being ushered to meet with the President, who gives him an undercover assignment to fly to Mexico to deal with Russian drug lords. But the trip never comes to fruition. After the meeting, Stone is walking through LaFayette Park and finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong tim...more

I finished Hell's Corner yesterday afternoon wishing Baldacci would have gone on for another 100 pages or so. Our hero Oliver Stone, feeling his mortality (aren't we all?), goes on the hunt for the bad guys in DC's Hell's Corner, right across from the White House after a powerful bomb is detonated in Lafayette Park. His loyal friends, otherwise known as The Camel Club, jump in the mix, against Oliver's better judgement, and risk it all to help their unofficial leader. All hell breaks loose with...more

As I got into this read, I was beginning to think that I did not like it as much as the others, but I think I liked it a little more as the plot thickened. His pals from the Camel Club were not heavy in the plot, and quite frankly I missed them. They are all different in personality and they add to endeavors of Oliver Stone and seeking the truth. The Camel Club did come together towards the end and true friendship and loyalty are thick. I think what made this read so good, is you did not know wh...more

I'm a big fan of Oliver Stone and the Camel club. What's not to like about them?

In this offering, which follows Divine Justice in the series, Oliver is "doing penance" for acts of the recent past by taking on an assignment and this time a badge.

On his way to the first part, he is dragged into a different sort of mission. He is pulled along clue by clue, thwarted by an enemy who is always a step ahead. As expected by now, he tries to protect his friends, but they will have none of this being shu...more
