I have been intending to read this series of novellas for several years now, but as I read them this summer I realize that I may not have been ready earlier for all God is now teaching me. I have been learning much in recent years about the times of the patriarchs, and these small books focusing on the five women noted in the genealogy of Christ have given me greater insight than I ever imagined. From Tamar’s desperate attempts to awaken Judah’s sense of obligation, to Rahab’s great faith ...more

After reading this book one can see how Ruth is an amazing inspiration. She is wonderfully portrayed as a virtuous woman who sacrifices all to care for her widowed mother-in-law. The care she gives Naomi is a true example of someone who loves faithfully and is committed to doing what is right, even when it could cost everything.

Francine Rivers pulls out things from scripture that are not typically considered, such as the cost to leave home and dangerous journey back to Naomi's homeland. Sin...more

There are five books (more like novella's) in this series that are based on the lives of the five women in the lineage of Jesus. They don't have to be read in order, but it may make more sense if you do. I found them enjoyable; and had to remind myself that they are Francine River's take on the little bit of scripture we have on these women. They do give you some insight as to the culture and customs of the day.

I liked this one. The story of Ruth is inspiring this book helps put the culture of the time into better perspective. I learned more about what it is to be a gleaner and I also learned more about the different ethnicities of the time and the people's feelings about that. (Of course I do realize that the feelings part is speculation but I get the feeling that Rivers did some good research on it too.)

I read this book as a part of a small group. It is essentially a retelling of the story of Ruth, and I found myself engaged from the get-go. This is a great resource if you're wanting to get a larger perspective on the book of Ruth.

I can say that anything written by Francine Rivers (after she became a christian) is a wonderful read. Her biblical & hystorical accuracy is awesome & brings stories that we all have heard before to life.

Definitely my favorite from the whole series. Ruth has always been one of my favorite Biblical characters, and the way Francine portrayed her strength, devotion, and curiosity about God was top-notch.

I love how Francine takes the women of the Bible and really tells their stories in an easy-to-read way. The dialogue really helps us to understand what these women may have been like.

Beautiful story of Ruth and how a gift of faith and trust in God produces overflowing blessings in your life. If you liked "The Red Tent" then you'll surely love this.

Book #3. Based on the life of Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz. This series really brings these characters to life. Gives them another dimension beyond the Bible. Easy read.

I really enjoyed reading about the life of Ruth. This book gave me a fuller understanding of the sacrifice that Ruth gave and her complete obedience to God's Law.

I really liked this book because it took the story of Ruth and explained the culture and customs during that time period. It also gave me a more relational view.

It gives an idea of what the women of the Bible were feeling- it's fiction, but still fairly believable
