I loved this book and could not put it down! While fictionalizing the story of Tamar, the author really defined what life was like for women of the times. I had never heard of Tamar before, although I am sure many have heard of her brother-in-law, Joseph and his coat of many colors.

The story was poignant for me because of the incredible amount of patience Tamar had! In our fast paced, instant gratification world, we are all impatient. The story of Tamar revealed the value of patience to me....more

I didn't like this one as well as the others but it was still interesting. The culture was so different in the old testament and the laws and customs are so foreign to me. One of the best things about these little novellas is that it has made me stop and re-read these storis in the Bible and think about the real people who lived these lives. I'm not sure I agree with Rivers take on this one but it was very interesting.

There are five books (more like novella's) in this series that are based on the lives of the five women in the lineage of Jesus. They don't have to be read in order, but it may make more sense if you do. I found them enjoyable; and had to remind myself that they are Francine River's take on the little bit of scripture we have on these women. They do give you some insight as to the culture and customs of the day.

Presents the story of Tamar and Judah (Gen. 38)in short novella form. The book is historical fiction. The author obviously had to add details to make it a novella. However she did a good job telling the story from the Bible. When reading you must be sure to remember that this was a different time with different customs than we have today. This is the first of 5 books of women in the lineage of Christ.

I love the idea of expounding the lives written in the Bible in a way that makes you connect with the real people behind the parables. Rivers could have gone even further in adding detail and painting a picture of the past though. Some parts are a bit thinly done.

These books about the women in Jesus's lineage are wonderfully written. Francine Rivers does such a good job of researching. Even though it's fictionalized accounts of biblical stories, you do feel like her scenarios are plausible. Loved all of them.

I read this book as part of a bible study book club group. I liked this one so much I ended up reading the whole series. Francine Rivers takes a biblical story and embellishes them to make them more readable.

I can say that anything written by Francine Rivers (after she became a christian) is a wonderful read. Her biblical & hystorical accuracy is awesome & brings stories that we all have heard before to life.

This series is really good.
Its about women who are mentioned in the bible, but the bible doesnt really explain a whole lot about them. so reading this books gives you a better perspective on them.

Hmmm....I guess the reason I liked this book was that I just like how Francine writes. I wouldn't read it again because I don't know if I'd want to re-live some of what happened to her.

Really enjoyed this whole set of books. Takes the life of a woman in the bible and makes it into a story based on the biblical time, rules etc...

The courage and faith Tamar had was incredible. I couldn't put this book down, and didn't stop bawling until I finished the last page.

a look at one woman's life and how she 'made it' into the Bible. it delves deeper than the story in the Bible and made her real.

Interesting concept from a fabulous author. Not sure it would rank in my favorites of hers, but it was a good, very quick, read.
