I really enjoyed reading this book. Ross McIntyre has done a wonderful job in describing what one can truly experience when stepping into a canoe, pushing off from shore, and gliding through the water with just a paddle in one’s hands. I could hear the little ripples of the water hitting the canoe hull as I read this book. I could feel the cold rain as the McIntyres set up their campsite after a day of paddling. What a great book for anyone who has ever been canoeing. I hope more people pick up...more
What an adventure! I didn't realize people took canoes out for long periods of time! This book makes you want to get out and see what the author is talking about! I had a hard time getting a clear picture of what was going on. Sometimes it would all the of sudden move from one thing to another and that is difficult to follow along with.
He definitely has stories to share, and I thoroughly enjoyed those parts! However I was hoping to get more of the relationship between him and his wife, and other...more

Ross McIntrye's memoir will particularly appeal to canoers, as he recounts years of venturing into remote waters. Each chapter stands on its own, has its own focus. He is an observer of nature, of human interaction, and of his own relationship to his surroundings. The book reflects his absorption with the outdoors, and his love of long-distance paddling.
Full disclosure: I am the editor who published this book, so of course I give it five stars. But really, it is five-star. I knew that the first time I read Ross's lovely manuscript.
But still, take this with as many grains of your favorite mineral as you wish. Read the other Goodreads reviews or , better yet, decide for yourself. It is available pretty much everywhere in hardcover, softcover, and as an under-$5 e-book.
