Another classic from the Master of Science Fiction. Excellent, excellent book. The book is about a secret organization called 'Eternity' that has developed time travel technology and uses it to constantly interfere with the Earth's timeline to prevent disasters, avert tragedies, and keep the world at peace. The problem is, they can only travel so far into the future. Past a certain point, they cannot go farther. Eventually it's revealed that Eternity's efforts to keep the world happy & at pe...more

I am an avid reader of time travel novels and found this one particularly good. Asimov tells the story of Andrew Harlan, a member of Eternity and bearer of the rather unpopular but respected title of Technician. Eternity is an organization who policies time, altering events which they deem to be deleterious to the good of humanity overall. However, Harlan does not plan on falling in love and then making a choice which could alter Eternity forever. Oddly this story would I think appeal to both me...more

I first read this amazing novella in 1982. Twenty five years later it is still my favorite time-travel story. Harlan, a time-tech "Eternal" who maintains the travel tubes, falls in love with a woman far up the time-line and risks everything for her, including disturbing the fabric of time and his own self-destruction. Full of remarkable plot twists and stunning revelations, THE END OF ETERNITY is a little-known classic gem. Don't miss it.

I reread this in April 2007 during a plane flight. I found it rather more interesting this time; there's a contingent of fans who consider it Asimov's best novel. While I don't agree, I do see more of its merits. It's also interesting in that it points the way to his last works (or, alternatively, Asimov rehashed this book in some of his last novels ;-)

Decent Asimov. Definitely not his best, but interesting. People travel through time and manipulate the timestream to avert major global disasters. Sort of psychohistory meets the Minority Report. Of course, Asimov throws in some goofy love story. If you like time travel on a super scale a la Time Masters...its kind of cool.

Oh my GOD this is a tedious novel. Jesus, why did I read so much of Asimov in junior high? Was I that much of a nerd? Yes? Okay, so I was skipped a grade and couldn't play sports or I would get hurt due to all my dental problems. God. Damn. This novel sucked. It suuuuuuucked. It is absolutely horrible and boring and trite and completely pointless. Ever see that Enterprise episode where Scott Bakula goes back in time but the past has been changed and the Nazis are totally winning? That...more

Didn't set my world on fire, but it was a nicely diverting read. Decent time travel story free of all the "OH NOES, A PARADOX!!!" handwringing that ususally forms the backbone of such stories, which made for a nice change.

Possibly the best sci-fi novel of all times. If I were to recommend someone to read only 1 science fiction book, this would be it. It's the book that introduced me to the genre and it's also a classic masterpiece.

One of my all-time favorite stories. It sets out to exploit ever imaginable time travel paradox, but, in the end, produces a very compelling story and love interest. I love revisiting this one.

When I read this way back when, I did not care for it much. However, whenever I think back on it, I feel that I was horribly unfair at the time; so I really need to get a copy and try it again.

Nothing spectacular. I was hoping for more, but definitely worth the amount of time it takes to read it if you are looking for a quick science fiction piece.

Excellent time travel book. It's the only book of Asimov's I've ever read, and I'm sorry that I haven't gotten the chance for any of his other books so far.

What a good book. It takes some ability to pay attention and retain what you read to follow it, but it's as good as science fiction gets.

Time travel at it's best. A loophole romance with a "screw u causality" attitude. One of my favs.
