Me? A Leader? Okay, I did prove that there's more to Inside than we knew. That a whole world exists beyond this cube we live in. And finding that led to a major rebellion - between worker scrubs like me and the snobby uppers who rule our world. Make that ruled. Because of me, we're free. I thought that meant I was off the hook, and could go off on my own again - while stil...more

Duh! I'm going to mark all my books with 5 stars :) I find it funny there are three reviews when the book wasn't even finished! And I'm grateful for all those who have this marked TBR - I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it :)

***Possible spoiler alert concerning Inside Out***

2.5 stars
A rather disappointing end to the duet after the very enjoyable first book, Inside Out. Suffering from too many subplots that connected to the central story, the book just had too much going on. Each subplot that popped up was quickly taken care of in order to move on to the next scene and felt like the author was going down a checklist, "Okay, that's done, on to the next." It just wasn't very smooth at all. Most of the action was indica...more

Despite enjoying the first book in this series, Inside Out, I went into this with low expectations. For some reason, my excitement for Trella’s world and dystopian sci-fi in general had died down considerably (I didn’t remember much about the first book or why I liked it so much anyway and therefore even reduced my rating in hindsight.) and I had heard too much about Maria Snyder’s sequel syndrome.

But I soon was immersed in the story. It was fast moving and suspenseful, portraying the time after...more

Outside In suffers from the same page-turning excitement The Hunger Games suffers from. I say ‘suffers’ because I suffered when I had to put it down to do normal things like eat and sleep and work. It begins a few short weeks after the end of Inside Out, and for one thing, it’s a totally awesome name for the book. Not only does it match its predecessor, but it’s actually accurate to the plot. Something from Outside wants in. How fucking sinister...more

This review is also posted on by blog, In The Good Books.

Trella thought her part was over. She led a rebellion and won Inside back from the Travas and Pop Cops. Now she's happy to give control over to a Committee.

But The Committee can't decide on anything, everyone still harbors Scrubs/Upper prejudices, Inside is practically in anarchy, and now something from the Outside wants In.

The Inside Out series is dystopia, a genre that's increasing in popularity. It's more science-fiction-y than I'm used...more

I read Outside In sometime in 2011. I know it was before I started my blog, and it was one of the first reviews I wrote on Goodreads. Because of that, I don't recommend you go read it (my writing is horrible), but I can tell you that I adored the book. I may not have been able to articulate my thoughts as well as I can now, but the feelings are still the same. I LOVED IT. It was one of my favorites and it just cemented my growing love for Maria V. Snyder's writing. So it was with great trepidat...more

After finished Inside Out, I was so excited and anxious to get my hands on a copy of this sequel. to this day, I still cannot get over at how realistic everything is within this book. The world Snyder has crafted is absolutely fantastic and her characters are crazy awesome. So I was so excited to jump right back into Trella's world. Both books have served every little bit of nail biting action that is sure to have you on the edge of your seat. Trella is the kind of kick butt character that has y...more

Read My Review for Outside In here: http://www.gonewiththewords.com/2011/02/review-outside-in-by-maria-v-snyder.html

Outside In picks up soon after the end of Inside Out. Trella kind of takes a backseat to the committee, and wants to just explore more of Inside and spend more time with Riley. She feels she doesn’t have the expertise to make decisions that will impact the citizens of Inside. She doesn’t realize that the citizens of Inside see her as a leader, one who has abandoned them. There hasn...more

FYI this review contains spoilers for Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder, so if you haven’t read it yet, I suggest you do so and then come back here.

Friends, I bow to the greatness that is the writing of Maria V. Snyder. I will admit, I was nervous when I first read Inside Out because a few friends had read it, but didn’t really enjoy it. Then I read inside out and fell in love with Trella and Sheepy and Riley. However, I wasn’t really sure where Snyder could take the story. I certainly didn’t think...more

It was kind of anticlimactic. I mean, there was a bunch of stuff "going on", but not much actually happening. I felt like half of it just got written to make the book bigger, and the sheep got brought into it WAY too much. It was Sheepy this and Sheepy that, and I was about to reach through the pages and strangle it. I just realized, that's pretty sad. I wanted to harm a fake sheep... But truly, Trella and Riley mentioned Sheepy almost every time they were together, which was a LOT, and she was...more

Outside In is the sequel to the thrilling Inside Out. This review will have spoilers for the first book, so go and read it before reading this review!

The Queen Of The Pipes is back!!!!
(I *love* Trella!!)

This is a fantastic series and the sequel is as nerve-racking as the first! When I learned what the deal was with Inside/Outside, I had this strange sensation of falling into space. I have bad vertigo so the whole idea of being *gasp* in space *gasp* - no matter how fabulous it would be - just ma...more

Trella's world has changed dramatically in the past few weeks. Before, she was nothing but one of many Scrubs, people who were treated like scum. Now, after playing an essential roll in the rebellion that has changed everything and discovering that Inside is in fact a spaceship travelling through something called Outerspace, everybody knows who she is. And they expect her to be a leader. To unite the Scrubs and the Uppers, who still refuse to work together. Terrified of messing up, she gives up...more

Outside In is the sequel to Inside Out. There will be spoilers for the first book in this review, but not for the second.

Outside In addresses the difficult aspect of revolution that dystopian books so often gloss over – what happens after the revolution. Outside In is about the rebuilding of social structure and the attempt to unite people of opposing forces in order to live in a peaceful and equal society. This proves nearly impossible since old prejudices don’t disappear overnight, and most fi...more

Okay, so the first thing I have to mention is this: I've finally worked out the layout of Inside! I'm telling you, the amount of sketches I made trying to figure it all out whilst I was reading Inside Out was unbelievable - I must have killed about five hundred trees. It probably wasn't all that hard, but Maria V. Snyder's writing just didn't give me a clear view, you know? But I finally figured it all out! So happy.

Enough of that, now. This book was amazing. The writing style was, again, beauti...more

Disappointing - this is a noticeably worse book than the first. It was kind of unnecessary, too. The first book got tied up and ended on a hopeful note — Trella and Riley got together, more space is found in the ship (howwww??? How does this ship manage to move through space???), and the revolution succeeded.

But, okay, this book. Trella sucks at managing a society. Not that she wants to do it. But everyone acts like Trella is this awesome Rebel Leader. Trella never really led anybody. She just...more

This "review" may contain a spoiler if you haven't read the first book.
So if you read my thoughts on Inside Out you know I had trouble getting into the story, and almost quit. Well book 2 was soo much better. I already knew the world of Inside so it was easy to get drawn right in. I finished this book quickly and while I liked it more than the first it still left a lot of unanswered questions.

The story was more developed and definitely had a lot more action and suspense. I was not happy about...more

hmmm.....well, i preferred the first book. the writing was worse in this one. same mistakes as before, but just A LOT MORE, which i find funny, because she thanked her proofreader in the beginning of this one.

i didn't care for Trella's character in this story very much...just...to weak/whiney...what happened to the hero for the first book.
-yes, i understand this one is about re-finding herself but still!

there are a few thing that i felt w23ere lacking in this story, had they been there, it would...more

A fast-paced sequel to Inside Out, it was an enjoyable continued exploration of Trella. I can't say I always understood some of her decisions--sometimes they were too easily explained with "that's just what I do" or with a reason someone else gave for what she does.

Trying not to give too much away, I was a little displeased with the way the romance drama worked out in this book--it seemed too sudden, and then too clean a break. Is it bad to say that I wanted Trella to mope a little longer? She's...more

Before I go ahead and dig in, I'd like to note what an interesting time it is for this particular story to come out. With everything that's been going on in Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia, there's been a lot of governments being overthrown and being rebuilt. A big part of Outside In focuses on what happens after the revolution, when the people have won and everything needs to be restructured. Finding a system to replace the one they've torn down isn't easy, though, and having a story with that kind o...more

A worthy sequel to Inside Out, Maria V. Snyder again writes us a world we don't want to leave. I simply could not put this book down. We learn more about each character at every turn, and the consistency of Snyder's writing means the story flows seamlessly from scene to scene and character interactions feel authentic. She mentions this was book 8 for her in her credits. I say bring on book 9!

The Insiders thought they had it figured out. The Travas were incarcerated and the Pop Cops disbanded. A...more

My short review for now.

***Possible spoiler alert concerning Inside Out***

This book is part of the series started by Inside Out. Outside In can be read without reading the previous novel; however, if you are going to spend time to read a book of this length and have to decide between the two in this series, I would recommend reading Inside Out instead. Not to say that I didn't enjoy this book, but it lacks the crispness, development, and excitement of the previous novel.

Maria Snyder fell for a f...more

Contrary to what most people thought, I actually liked this book better than the first book. I think part of the reason why is because a lot of the setting was already explained in the first book, and Snyder could sum up the world in the introduction. Because the book wasn't bogged down to describing the world and not really focusing on the storyline. It made it a lot easier to get into the storyline.

I did find Trella just slightly more irritating in this book than the first book. I mean she was...more

I really hate not being able to give it more stars.I LOVED the Study series. I cannot count how many times I have reread the Study series, and how many people I have told to read them. I LOVED Inside Out, though interestingly I can't really remember much of what happened in it.

But Outside In failed me. Or maybe I failed it, I'm not sure. I have spent the last four hours reading this book, and yet I don't know I could tell you what REALLY happened. I could perhaps mention a few names, and that s...more

Pros: good pacing, interesting story, realistic relationship development

Cons: Trella manages to do an awful lot despite injuries and being tracked at one point

The Pop Cops are in the brig and a committee now runs Inside. But the scrubs aren't happy and most have stopped working. Trella's still reeling from the events of Inside Out and doesn't want more responsibility. So she's only a consultant to the committee, which is ignoring all of her suggestions. After a blast destroys a key system and in...more

A wonderful sequel to Inside Out. This book picks up a few weeks after the events in the previous one, and provides more romance and action. It is interesting to see how Snyder answers the questions around what exactly happens after a revolution. It's not magically "all better," and there is a lot of work necessary to reconcile the population. Trella also sees a lot of personal growth throughout the action. As a 17 year-old former scrub, she has a lot of mental and emotional growth that she need...more

Apparently I liked this a lot more than the first in the series, because I just reread my review of that and I totally ragged on it! Now I feel bad - I think I was comparing it too much to the author's first series, which I adore and tend to judge everything else in the universe by. Anyway, this is a nice continuation of the story (which is about a bunch of people living in a self-contained community inside a giant cube that, unbeknownst to them -- first book spoiler alert! -- is actually a spac...more
