I think that the illustrations are what turn this from a pretty good story into a very good one. In the previous Buffalo book, Audrey Vernick used the very basic idea of substituting a buffalo for a small child in a familiar situation. Carrying this onward, this volume is about what happens when the Buffalo hints at wanting music lessons. Like most Buffaloes, though, this one has asked for a lot of things in the past, and has had a very short attention span. As a result, the closet is full of un

Really funny book. Jonas (5.5) and Miles (3.5) didn't quite understand all the jokes and were a bit confused by the second person narrative. I think someone a little older (and someone a lot older, too) would appreciate it more. My favorite line: "I think your buffalo is trying to tell you something. He was born to play drums. You have to teach him how. People may think that's silly. But you must be used to that. Did anyone say, "Hey that's a really great idea!" when you brought a

Your buffalo is trying to tell you something. He wants to learn drums. And no, this won't be like the last time, or the time before that. In fact, let's just forget all about the closet full of abandoned pursuits. This time it's for real. Vernick's book is chock full of laughs, visual and otherwise, as we go about teaching our buffalo to drum. And let's face it: that buffalo is darn cute. The ending provides a wonderful ba-dum-bump to the rest of the story.

This picture book sends a nice message to encourage your buffalo’s (or kid’s) interests, even if they may be short-lived ones. The enthusiastic buffalo has taken up many hobbies yet hasn’t shown much follow through on them. Still, the narrator suggests you support your buffalo no matter how long he sticks with the latest fad hobby.

Why is it so necessary to beat, so to speak, a concept to death? The buffalo from Vernick's school outing reappears here (oh when will the endless sequels to everything stop!). While cute enough, the humor will be more apparent to the parents of musically inclined children than to the children themselves.

I like when books make me laugh out loud. My favorite moment was the buffalo attempting to clap along with the music. I'd definitely buy this book for a parent whose child is starting to get involved with extracurriculars and developing their talents.

What do you do when your pet buffalo wants to learn how to play the drums? Should you encourage him even though he has tried and given up on numerous previous endeavors? And do you have enough earmuff for yourself and the neighborhood?

This book made me think of my sister, who is learning to play drums. Except, I don't think of her as a buffalo...but it was a funny and cute book... Made us laugh.

Great for kids who are interested in pursuing music. Even better for the parents who will have to listen to their practicing.

I hope the fact that this is a second book, which is just as wacky and hilarious as the first, means that the start of a long and mad-cap series of books featuring that lovable, crazy buffalo!

Anyone who has ever had a child who aspired to be a drummer will totally identify with and love this book.

Loved the illustrations in this book, but the story itself left something to be desired.
