My Thoughts:

This series remains one of my all-time favorites. I love this concept and the characters. The suspense/action elements are easily as strong as the romance, and it satisfied my multi-faceted reading nature with both.

Ryland--

My Thoughts:

This series remains one of my all-time favorites. I love this concept and the characters. The suspense/action elements are easily as strong as the romance, and it satisfied my multi-faceted reading nature with both.

Ryland--

Ryland is one of those sneaky alphas who acts like a beta towards his woman. He was adorable at how in love he was with Lily. But don't be fooled. He is a lethal, fierce man. Very droolworthy. Even though I love some of the GhostWalker men more, it's a relative thing, because I realize on reread how much I love Ryland. I think for a nine (soon to be ten) book run, having only mildly disliked one hero (Mack) and loved all of the others, that's saying something.

Lily--

Lily is a multi-faceted heroine who I love and admire. She is wicked intelligent, with a highly cerebral scientific nature balanced by a fiercely loyal, caring, passionate and loving heart. I liked her in this book a lot, and it's great to see what a lynchpin she is for the GhostWalkers in the later books.

Together, their chemistry is sighworthy and hot! If you like plenty of love scenes, Feehan won't let you down.

Team One--

I adore all these guys. I love their strong bonds and their loyalty to each other. Not to mention their soldier bad*ssedness! They know how to joke around, but they also know how to take down the bad guys. It's great to see each one with their women. Going back and rereading this makes me even more excited for Sam's book. (big smile)

Final Thoughts--

I never find Christine Feehan a quick read, but I love her books all the same, particularly this GhostWalkers series. I am glad I did a reread and was able to dive deeper and appreciate things I may have missed the first time around, or just to immerse myself in this book world I love so much.
Mind Game is next and I am so looking forward to it! Glad to get GhostWalker fix. I an a stone cold addict for this series.

Original Review

I gave this book five stars because I enjoyed it so much. I have heard that it is not the best of the series. I am happy to say that if this is not the best, then it will be a pleasure to read the rest of the books. Right from the start, I knew I would like Ryland, the hero. He came off as a principled, caring person, although with a dangerous edge (which I like in a hero). I liked his immediate attraction to Lily, and how he saw the beauty in her although she never thought she was beautiful. Lily is a good heroine with some qualities that make her stand out from other cookie-cutter heroines. I like that she has the tendency to be a nerd/brainiac type and is very cerebral. She can get sucked into her research and be cranky at times. It's refreshing to read about heroines who aren't goody-goody all the time, although they are good people all the same. It is clear that despite being a very scientific person, she also cares about people and about doing the right thing. I definitely saw the chemistry between Lily and Ryland and hoped that they would get together. I loved that they had a psychic bond that helped each other, when either was feeling pain or anguish. By the time the love scenes came, there was already a deep emotional connection that made the love scenes that much better.

I also liked the premise of the story. It's cool to read a paranormal with humans who happen to have enhanced mental powers. I loved how the Ghost Walkers could tell someone to look away and not see them, and persuade them to do things, yet they never used these powers in a cruel way. I thought the science was plausible, although clearly Feehan made an effort not to bog the reader down with it. The romance and the relationships were the strong focus, yet set in a world that is very exciting and interesting.

I also liked Ryland and Lily's relationships with the other Ghost Walker men and also with Lily's family of employees that have been with her since she was a small girl. I would say that Feehan has a skill at writing about relationships and the intricacies of those interrelations with people. She shows the turmoil that Lily had about her father and her discovering that her father did do some less than ethical experimentation on her and other young girls in his quest to develop psychic powers in human subjects. All the characters in this book were interesting, and I had quite a few good laughs as they joked with each other.

The action scenes were exciting and well-written, showing that this was another area that Feehan is good at. I love reading about tough people who can kick butt, and this book has this in spades. Also I liked seeing the Ghost Walkers and Lily use their powers when they got into fights and went on missions. It reminded me of the X-Men movies, comics, and tv show.

I can heartily say that this book was enjoyable and I am adding it to my keeper shelf. I am eager to read all the books in the series.(less)

Ok, so WOW… This is my first book by this author and I LOVED IT! Too often, when I choose a Romantic Suspense novel, I find there is more suspense than romance. In Shadow Game this mix is perfect. Ryland, oh my, who wouldn’t love him as well as Lily. They,along with the other men of this Special Group, are full of courage, integrity, and loyalty. And I loved that Ryland and Lily had this hot, drowning stark need for each other. And there is no doubt from the first that these two are soul mates.

For me, this book had all the elements of a great paranormal, romantic suspense story including laughter. I give this one 5 stars. I am hooked, excited and can’t wait to read all in this series.

I didn't expect to love this book because most readers think this is one of the weakest books in the series, but I guess I'm not "most readers", LOL. I loved it!

Ryland was the perfect hero: protective but not overbearing, and not shy or afraid of his feelings for Lily. Once he knew she was the woman for him, there was no turning back. This is not usually my genre, so I don't have a lot to compare with but I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I have ordered the next 2 in the series from my library and have insisted they buy the rest of the series.
I loved the instant chemistry between Lily and Ryland. Lust at first sight usually puts me completely off a book, but this was well done.
I liked the whole 'lab rats' premise of the book and am looking forward to what happens with the rest of the very macho males. The only negative for me...more

So I read this book as apart of one of the Romance Readers challenges featuring author Christine Feehan. This was my first book by this author and I am unsure if it will be my last. So I read this book as apart of one of the Romance Readers challenges featuring author Christine Feehan. This was my first book by this author and I am unsure if it will be my last. Where I did like the book; there was many things missing from it, like the lack of a hot sex scene, they were all pretty lukewarm to me. Maybe I am just greedy, but I like a good sex scene damn it. So this is the life of the GhostWalkers, humans who walk this earth undetected, unstoppable and dangerous. Equipped with wicked psychic abilities that can deter the enemy and make them invisible to the eyes.

The book begins with Captain Ryland Miller locked in a cage and extremely pissed off, seems he volunteered to be a apart of an experiment to enhance is rather remarkable attributes. Under the watchful eyes of doctors and scientist, they will unlock psychic abilities that was laying dormant in his brain. Well things were going well until they started to treat Ryland and his men like animals, because what do you do when the thing you created becomes too powerful, you try to destroy it. Well Ryland is having none of that, he is gonna get out of his cage and rescue his men. The down side, since the opening of their minds they are more receptive to emotions and pain and that is making them hard to live. Until Lily Whitney walks through the medical doors, and bam Ryland has found his true love and maybe a way to finally live.

Lily Whitney lives for the next experiment until she does a favour for her dad. That favour becomes the deciding point in Lily’s life. She is about to be thrown into a game of cat and mouse that she never expected. Plus she has this unbreakable psychic connection with the very sexy Ryland Miller, from their first meeting he has become apart of her. Lily is thinking that this connection might be unnatural or some how modified by her fathers experimenting ways. What’s real is that she wants him and denying the attraction is very hard to do, but with all this lovey dovey stuff there is a real threat. Someone wants them dead and its only a matter of time before they strike.

So now it’s a race to figure out how to help Ryland and his men live an ordinary life, make them able to control the abilities. I really enjoyed the flow of the book, a little long and drawn out in some places but it had a bit of something, that always intrigued me. Ryland I thought was sexy but…. He just didn’t get all my juices flowing and Lily was a bit annoying with moments of likeability. Together they meshed well, but didn’t really bring the house down. There was a whole lot of if I dont have you I cant breathe, and my life was a dark night until you brought the sun and daylight in to it. You know the mush fest that goes with falling in love. Was semi-sweet at times.

I did enjoy the other characters and it was a great way to set-up for future books, the easiness with which they got along was a definite high point in the book and it had me laughing. A bit drawn out, but it’s the first book in a series and they tend to go on forever. Will I continue the series, still very undecided at this point. If you are person that enjoy a little mystery and a well plotted story line then this book might be your cup of tea.

Also no swearing, and dirty words “huh”, very rare in books. I am unsure if I liked that or completely hate it.

4.5 stars. Sexy and suspenseful, an excellent series opener! I am on a paranormal kick right now, and this book really fit the bill. I felt Feehan managed both the suspense and the romance well, and integrated them both with the paranormal elements -- enhanced psychic abilities, including telepathy, telekinesis, pattern-finding, etc.

3rd person POV, shifting from H to h multiple times (but easy to follow).

This was an entertaining book, overall. The beginning was a little slow but that is to be expected in the first of a series when background needs to be set up for future installments. The premise of enhanced psychic ability being taught and utilized was very intriguing and I look forward to reading more.

I really wanted to like this book. I had really high expectations for this one, maybe that was the problem. It started really good. The set up of the story seemed different and original. But when it came to the romance, it got really lame. I really liked the premise of this story, but it wasn't enough. I felt like a lot of information was missing. Oh, yeah, that was so good. Yay me, finding another series I'm going to just love. Great hero, great heroine, and a great set up. Can't wait to read me some more Ghostwalkers.

This was total pulp. I just needed something easy to read at the moment. I would not ever recommend this book to anyone who can read. The plot was about a military psi-ops group gone wrong and sex. Mostly sex. Psychic Dream Sex, Sex Sex, and Oral Sex. Also, Sex.

I love Christine Feehan books, just let me say this up front. But, I can only take them in small doses under normal circumstances and usually rate them around a four star. Partly because of the romances that tend to boarder a little too closely on damsel in distress is rescued by handsome prince patterns. Don’t get me wrong, her females are stubborn, to the point you sometimes want to reach in and shake their heads to see if there’s anything up there...more This is the first in the Ghost Walker Series.

I love Christine Feehan books, just let me say this up front. But, I can only take them in small doses under normal circumstances and usually rate them around a four star. Partly because of the romances that tend to boarder a little too closely on damsel in distress is rescued by handsome prince patterns. Don’t get me wrong, her females are stubborn, to the point you sometimes want to reach in and shake their heads to see if there’s anything up there. Strong, however, would be going too far. Willful maybe. The men tend to be more typical of chauvinists than truly romantic or protective, save for in the bed, which there is a lot of. Even then some of them could stand to sit back and let her teach him a thing or two instead of fainting to his touch.

This series is lining up to change that particular problem. The main female lead in this book is strong, educated, but not stupid or stubborn. She uses her considerable brains and doesn’t let him change her thinking and not to her undoing either. Yes, there’s some rescue, but as much on her part (and maybe a little more so) as on his, which is refreshing. The character is well balanced, as is the plot, the romance, the seduction and the emotions.
Lilly is her own person in every regard with realistic human reactions and emotions. She is rich, but that fits into the story line. She couldn’t do what she does without the power and privilege, but she wasn’t bred to it, which grounds her in reality. She’s physically scared and has typical female views of herself as too lacking for a man like him.
Ryland, her male counterpart, is a soldier. A Special Forces leader and this, too, is very well done. As a former military spouse I can say from experience she was dead on with this character. Men in his position, who do the job he does, are very much like what she portrays. And I don’t mean that in a bad way, gentlemen! He’s strong and tough and tries to keep himself all he can be and cares about his men and what is happening to them. He tries to step and take control and it goes pretty good, but for Lilly, who is having none of it. Again, the emotions, reactions and everything about his loyalty and behaviors drilled into him are very realistic and well done.
The sex is pretty graphic, but that is the way Feehan writes and she’s good at it. Be prepared for plenty of it, but it didn’t feel like nearly as much as in some of her books. I wouldn’t listen to them in public though, even with the headphones on!

I think a man would like this book just as much as the ladies. There was a very nice balance between story, character and animal attraction (and of course the results of that - it is Feehan after all). But a man would enjoy the storyline, action and bravado as well as the tasteful, manly romance. I'd certainly recommend the book or audiobook, for appropriate ages of course.

I have only read a few of Feehan's books, and read this book on the premise of the story alone. The plot is intriguing, men are given psychic talent boosts in a military experiment that has drastic consequences. The doctor in charge of the experiment is murdered and his daughter is faced with a dilemma. Should she help the men, continue the experiment, or walk away from the thing entirely? To make matters worse she finds a message from her father stating that there is a traitor in her own home....more I have only read a few of Feehan's books, and read this book on the premise of the story alone. The plot is intriguing, men are given psychic talent boosts in a military experiment that has drastic consequences. The doctor in charge of the experiment is murdered and his daughter is faced with a dilemma. Should she help the men, continue the experiment, or walk away from the thing entirely? To make matters worse she finds a message from her father stating that there is a traitor in her own home. She must track down her father's killer at great risk to herself and her family. All of that makes for a great story, and I was eager to read it.

I enjoyed the first half of this book where Lily is discovering truths about her past, finding information about the men in the experiment, and facing down dangerous enemies. However, after that there is too much repetition. Pain from Lily's past is brought up over and over again, details of her fathers work are explained numerous times. We get no closer to finding out who is responsible for her father's death through all of it. There are no clues given, just the same ideas repeated over and over again. About the romance, let me first say I have read romance books and enjoyed them, I'm not biased for or against romance in any way. The main love interest for our main character is a bit obsessive and flat. Lily tries to push him away for pretty stupid reasons, but he will have none of that. There is no getting to know each other or attraction, just instant love, which I am never a fan of. I give this book 2 stars, instead of 1, only because the plot set up and background information in the first 200 pages or so was excellent. Then it got boring and everything fell apart. As a romance this book would be even lover, as the relationship between the two main characters wasn't very believable or interesting. As a mystery this book isn't very good, as there is no clue finding or investigation, just touching of certain people. For the experiments, Lily's past, and the camaraderie of the soldiers, I give this book 2 stars-I could barely finish it. (less)

When Dr Whitney asks Lily to help him she agrees but when he goes missing shortly after bringing her on board she is thrown in the deep end trying to figure out exactly what her father was involved in. There is an instant attraction between Lily and Ryland but it is more important that they find a way to help his team and discover who is behind the deaths and Dr Whitney's disappearance.

Shadow Games is the first book I've read by Christine Feehan - I'd heard a lot of great things about her Carpathians Dark series but when I spotted this in the library I thought I'd give it a try. I'm really pleased I picked it up & will definitely be reading more books by this author. This was very different to anything I've read before but I really loved the GhostWalkers (Ryland's team) and found it interesting looking at the idea of enhancing psychic abilities for the use of the military.

Ryland is a great hero - loyal to his team and determined to save them he is also incredibly sexy and not afraid of his feelings for Lily, he knows what he wants and will do whatever it takes to make it happen. Lily is intelligent and beautiful but also shy and somewhat naive - the feelings she has for Ryland are all new to her and she worries about her inexperience. With Ryland's help it doesn't take long for her passionate side to come to the surface which leads to some very erotic scenes between them.

Although I would class this as a paranormal romance there was also a lot of action and some great twists in the storyline. Not only do Lily and Ryland have to try and discover who is trying to sabotage their team but Lily also has to find a way to help the men deal with their new psychic powers so that they have a chance at living a normal life. We don't get to know the rest of the team well but from the glimpses of them that we've seen I'm really looking forward to reading their stories. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series and I'm looking forward to trying some of Christine's other books too. I'd recommend this to paranormal romance or urban fantasty fans who enjoy a story with plenty of hot sex scenes along with an action packed story line about hunky military men. I love that Christine Feehan puts in many twists and turns because i love those, even though i hate it when i never get the ending right. I love how the main characters are introduced early on, but Feehan leaves room for reader interpretation of the characters before we actually get a well-rounded image of the protagonists. I listened to this book while I was sick so with falling asleep every hour or so it took me much longer to finish than I'd like.

I enjoyed Lily and Ryland's story. I loved the idea that the government created these ghost walkers and now they are trying to solve a puzzle and survive. The love story was sweet. I'm a sucker for that all encompassing passion that burns you up from the inside out. I can't wait to get to know the rest of the team.

Christine Feehan is one of my favorite authors. I have read all of her books, and the Ghostwalkers is one series I return to time and time again.

The day she is introduced to the Ghostwalkers, an elite military group who signed up for Dr. Whitney's psychic enhancement experiments, her father is brutally killed. Before he dies, he issues a plea and apology to her, asking her to help the Ghostwalkers, who are all being held more or less as prisoners at the lab with horrible side effects from the enhancements and to forgive him for what he has done. As Lily forms an immediate connection with the leader of the group, Ryland Miller, she finds out they are all in grave danger and need answers. Her life is torn open when she learns the truth of her childhood and how far her father's experiments have gone. Lily also struggles with her powerful feelings for Ryland, wondering if they are real or more of her fathers scientific manipulations.

What I liked about it: The premise behind it is great. Enhancing psychic powers to make an elite military unit. Lily Whitney and her warped childhood and the lengths she goes in this book and future ones in the series to right her father's wrongs. Ryland and his men pull you in with their personalities and make you want to see who the next book is about.

What I didn't like: Because the characters often use their senses, there are times where everything is described to the last detail. Again, that is in part a function of the story line, but it had me skimming back to character interactions. Description lovers will enjoy it, but for me it at times was a bit much.

This series has action, it has emotion, it has heat and it has laughs. Christine Feehan has a great style to her writing that draws you in and makes you fall headlong into her series. As an opening book, this is a strong one that I know readers will definitely want more of.

Accanto a loro troviamo Rosa e Arly preziosi amici e validi aiutanti. Ho apprezzato particolarmente il fatto che la Feehan non abbia solo creato uno stretto rapporto fra Ryland e Lily,ma che abbia dato a quest’ultima un’appartenenza al gruppo di soldati fino a farglieli considerare una famiglia . L’ha coinvolta nelle azioni di guerriglia grazie al potere psichico di cui è dotata e che sul finale la renderà il fulcro di questo nuovo gruppo. In Lily tutti troveranno uno scopo per andare avanti. I soldati perché lei è in grado di aiutarli con le loro capacità,in Ryland perché sarà la compagna della sua vita. Davvero un ottimo romanzo. So... Before I even started I knew this wasn't going to be one of the "great reads" of my life, but the early January gloom made me want to read something fluffy. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can even classify this as fluff. It was sort of, well, terrible. Which is odd, because I find I did enjoy the book, at least a little. If I finished, I think I would have rated this 3 stars. but I couldn't finish it. And I can't really understand why. I mean, I like sci-fi military types. And the narrator, despite being male (not that I have anything against that, but some men fail at reading female voices) was quite good. Update (06/18/12): I liked this book a lot. It was a little slow in places, but in general I really liked Christine Feehan's writing style. I also really like books that have dorky main characters.
