Don't know. I am a bit disappointed. I liked the world building in the previous book and I liked the soul-mated theme. I think this book started from the right premises: Logan, Jin's mate, was a straight guy before meeting him, so Jin is not so sure that he is loved for being Jin or only for being Logan's fated mate. This theme got lost in the book amidst the long strings of events that involve Jin.

I bought this book as SOON as I could and read it in one sitting. It was ADDICTIVE!! Mary Calmes had action going from beginning to end and to see how strong the love and the bond is between Jin and Logan. And then to find out about the power that Jin possesses? WOW!! I fell in love with this book just like I fell in love with "Change of Heart." This book was UH-MAY-ZING from beginning to end. It might be too much to ask of Mrs. Calmes to write another book about Jin and Logan but I'm so addicte...more I bought this book as SOON as I could and read it in one sitting. It was ADDICTIVE!! Mary Calmes had action going from beginning to end and to see how strong the love and the bond is between Jin and Logan. And then to find out about the power that Jin possesses? WOW!! I fell in love with this book just like I fell in love with "Change of Heart." This book was UH-MAY-ZING from beginning to end. Thank you Mrs Calmes, for creating characters that are so easy to love. I think it's a rare treat when you find a book that's not only entertaining but that reflects a part of you and helps you to grow or teaches you about the power of the love between two people. I see myself in Jin, crazy as it may seem, someone who others see as special but who struggles to see their own worth and struggles with truly trusting in the love of someone else. I see my fiance, Christopher (who passed away 5 years ago) in Logan. So, for me, reading their story is even more precious to me.

Even Jin's need to keep poking and prodding trying to find some major flaw as an excuse to end the relationship and protect himself, even though he was hopelessly in love with Logan, made the book more intesting. I read the book and kept smiling because I could just see us being reflected (Everytime I muttered to Jin, "He loves you, you idiot! Let him show it his way!" I felt a little sheepish because it's something that my best friend said to me).

This is definitely a MUST-read. There were so many surprises, twists, turns and unexpected action that I read this book almost EVERYDAY for three months and never tired of it. The only thing that made this book MORE special, was the fact that Mrs. Calmes sent me an autographed copy. I anxiously await book three in this series. I moderately enjoyed the first one, with a considerable amount of reservations about several plot holes (like how people tried to kill the oh-gift-from-heaven Reah, to begin with) but I decided, anyway, to read the second book, hoping that some of the points that bothered me from the first one got solved, or at least improved to some degree.

Well, thank the Lord that what I thought was going to happen because of a careless comment to save someone else's rear didn't actually occur. I was so sure it was going to that I couldn't sleep last night, I was so emotionally involved in the middle of this book. (I put it down in a bad place, but I just had to get to bed.)

Bubbles, this is a toss up. It's really, really good and I think you'll like it but there's some violent parts that you might not like. So, it's bubbles-safe but not.

I liked how we learned more of the world Jin and Logan inhabit. The customs of werepanthers not only in America but in other countries, too, was really fascinating to me. I love when worlds like these are given lots of details because it allows me to get immersed in the story that much easier.

Jin isn't quite the same as he was in CoH but I liked that. He was still the stubborn reah we all loved in the first book but now we got to see more of his feelings and his insecurity with not believing he'll always have a permanent home with Logan and his tribe. How he struggles to survive when people from his past scramble up his new life and what he's now become. Logan was just the same alpha cat he was in CoH and I'm glad he didn't change much from that book to this one because although I love Jin, Logan's my favorite. There's just something to be said about a possessive guy like that. ^_^

Be warned, though, this sequel is definitely not a sweet story. Jin is forced to go through a lot of stuff before his life becomes somewhat normal again. Going from being kidnapped to abused to held hostage again, all without his mate, is a slightly brutal process to read about. But all ends well when Jin's rescued and all his insecurities are brought to the forefront and settled, leaving the story on a definite high note.

However, you'll want to read Change of Heart before reading this one because although it is very detailed and there's a glossary, I started off confused because you get bombarded with names in the beginning. It gets way better once you get past that overload and from there, whenever a weird word pops up, there's a glossary you can look up to help you understand them.

All in all, I was in no way disappointed with this sequel and I'm hoping with the way it's left off, we'll be reading more about Jin and Logan and see what else Jin can do to be a pain in the ass for Logan. Definitely recommended.

We left Jin and Logan at the end of Change of Heart dealing with the fallout of a war between two tribes, issues of trust only newly cemented, and Jin reluctant to accept his place as his tribe’s reah, the heart of the tribe. The novel opens with Jin at home and Logan (the semel) away visiting another tribe. Logan is to be home in three days, which will allow Jin to heal himself before Logan sees him and learns what happened. While the semel was away, a guest from another tribe had cornered Jin, and seemingly enthralled by Jin’s presence, tried to rape him. Jin fought alongside his sheseru (the reah’s protector) to stop him. In the process, Jin was badly injured, enough that even with his superior skill at healing, when Logan comes home three days early to surprise his mate, Jin is still terribly battered.

As events unfold, we see that not only was the were-panther who assaulted Jin after him, but two other parties are after him as well. A mated reah is usually safe with their semel, however, there is something about Jin that is different. Not only is he the only known male reah, but he also has powers that make others marvel. He can change back and forth from human to panther form so fast that anyone watching would see him as almost invisible, not one form or the other. He’s also extremely intelligent. He was raised to take his father’s place as the sylvan (the teacher of the tribe and who is the master of were-panther law) of the old tribe before being beaten and exiled for being gay and a reah. Jin is unique and powerful, making other semels tempted to take him and make him theirs.

The story is centered around an annual trip to Sobek, the capital city of the were-panthers. Every year, the semel-aten (the top semel who resides in Sobek) holds court for all the semels and yareahs (a chosen mate to a semel) all over the world. Because Logan has mated to Jin, a true reah, they are the guests of honor. Yet, days before they are to leave for Egypt, a man from Jin’s past comes to their home to try to take what he believes to be his — Jin. This sets off a series of events that leave Jin alone, having to rely on his own strength and power as he tries desperately to make his way back to his mate. And when Jin is kept away from his mate for too long, who knows to what ends he will go in order to reunite them?

I loved this novel as much as the first book. It has not just continued elements of world building, but a captivating and quite tense plotline. Both Jin and Logan go through hell, and quite a bit of (much needed) growth and there are enough loose ends to make me hope for a further installment. What more could I want?

I shouldn't have enjoyed this. The beginning was a bit of a mess with head hopping, crazy plot that lept all over the show and much roaring from alpha male and Jin needed a boot in the ass. But I've been engrossed for three hours and not put it down. Erk. Despite flaws, needing a jolly good tidy up and characters that annoyed me Change of Heart has kept me rather engrossed. 3 and a 1/2 stars. More, if it didn't leap all over the place like a feral mink.

I liked this more than I thought I would after the start where Jin was being such an idiot. By chapter three he stopped annoying me and I liked him a lot better than I did in the first one. I would probably give it five stars but was pulled out of the story too much. The sex scenes just didn’t work for me (too long I got bored just skimming them) and there was a whole chapter at a museum that bored and IMO did nothing for the story beside provide very little information about the first wereshift...more

I don't want to spend the time to write a review, but I do have to say a few things. This second book was OTT in so many ways, and about 100 pages too long. There was opportunity to really take advantage of the hurt/comfort angle once Jin was returned to his mate, (and really... how many times does this fact need to be hammered home?) and all we got was

In Change of Heart we meet Jin as a nomad with his best friend Crane. Along the way Jin has been kidnapped, forced to meet Semels in hopes that he’s their mate, and hurt along the way. Obviously it’s understandable as to why he would be wary of all Semels and packs considering his past. Then he meets Logan Church and Jin’s entire life is turned upside down again. Logan is his mate and straight. I mean to Logan it’s “you’re my mate, you’re a male, obviously I’m gay too” but Jin doesn’t understand how Logan can want and love him if he’s only ever been with females.

Flash to Trusted Bond, Jin is still struggling to accept fully Logan and what it means to be part of a mated pair. The book opens with Jin not being happy that Logan is home from his 10 day business trip early. You see he was attacked in his own home by Abbot George, the ‘apprentice’ to Yuri, a future sheseru. Abbot believes that a sheseru helps the Reah in ALL ways when the Semel is out… if you get my drift. The result is cuts, lacerations, claw marks and bruising even Jin’s fast healing can’t fix in a few days. From there it spirals downward in a big way. Jin is kidnapped by an old flame… a Semel he used to date before Jin found out he had lied and already had a Yareah. This Semel is twisted and does some nasty stuff to Jin. When Jin escapes it’s right in to the hands of the Semel-Aten who is almost as twisted. It seems Jin can’t catch a break.

Trusted Bond is more about Jin’s personal, physical, emotional and metaphysical growth than Logan and Jin. In fact while Logan plays a huge part being absent (not his fault!) Jin does most of the fighting, protecting and politic-ing. I loved it! There are secrets and secrets of what Jin is and why he is the only male Reah in a long time. The ending is perfect, but there are also threads that are left dangling so fingers crossed there’s a second book. Oh and the sparks between Logan and Jin are still perfect even half a year later. Logan is so amazing in the fact that it’s Jin, so he loves Jin, man/woman/gender issue not even involved. The sex scenes are scorching (of course it is Calmes we’re talking about) and the love is entirely tangible. I can’t decide who’d I want more Jin or Logan… how about if I get both?

It opens with Jin trying to hide from Logan because of an incident that has happened in Logan's absence to install Simone with her new mate in NYC. Logan returns to find his home empty of its residents particularly his mate. Jin tries to explain that he's going to be away without actually telling Logan what is going on. Logan in true fashion scents out that Jin his hiding from him and hiding a secret.

No sooner does Logan get his errant mate back and spilling the secret that Jin also starts spilling all of what is on his mind. He still doesn't trust in the bonding with Logan and questions Logan's love for him. Naturally this hurts his mate and threatens to tear them apart so Logan issues him an ultimatum even while breaking it to him that his best friend- the one he leans on for strength- is planning to move away.

And that's just the beginning of Jin's unraveling because in a flash, Jin will learn a hard and painful lesson just how real and trustworthy his mate bond with Logan truly is. One moment he is in his home and then he is taken. His past has caught up with him and this leads to new and startling revelations about himself that might take him away from Logan for good just when he realizes that being with Logan is all that he wants.

This book picks up where the first one left off in intensity and suspense. There is harsh danger, pain and heartbreak. And there are also new revelations about Jin and the were-panther world. The were-panther world is a creative blend that focuses on Egyptian mythology and it is fascinating. I love the way the author dishes it out in small doses and didn't just do an info dump in the first book. In this story, Jin learns that he is even more rare and special than just being the only male reah. His status as male reah makes him coveted by others who seek to keep him apart from Logan and for themselves, but it is his other nature that has the potential to permanently separate them or be the only means to keep them together.

The story is in Jin's first person perspective and that worked fine although, again, I really would have loved to dip into Logan's mind too. Jin's issues of insecurity were irritating and the way he kept pushing Logan away made me want to slap him, but then when the story unfolded I appreciated how Jin grew and learned so that he learned to set aside doubt and embrace what he really wanted. Not that he didn't have his moments. I loved how the other were-panthers could joke about Jin's insecurities and how Logan could lovingly and patiently drag him back on track by ordering him not to overthink things.

The reunion with the characters from the previous book was great. I love what is developing in the romances for Logan's siblings. And the new characters were intriguing add-ins. The story wouldn't be complete without a visit with Jin's horrid father, but he wasn't the worst monster by far in this one. There's a guy that will make Hannibal Lechter seem like a lamb.

So, great sequel and I cannot wait to get to the third story. Again, I recommend this one for those who like their shifter stories on the darker and more dangerous side.(less)

The beginning of this book sees Jin is still insecure about the relationship with Logan, he knows that the bond is very strong but is not yet able to accept being subjected to its Semel-ra. While Logan is on Jin is the victim of an assault by members of another tribe that we let him critically wounded, and shortly after will be kidnapped by another who was his ex-lover in the past and that has made Jin his obsession. He begins with a period of suffering and abuse, humiliation and fear because Laurent is a true psicho who enjoys torturing him. The author takes us to Egypt, including pharaohs and gods, where all werephanter, follow ancient laws; here know the Priest, a religious figure who enforces the rules and give punishment. This story is intense and painful as ever, the reader anxiously follows the vicissitudes of Jim and rejoice with him when he is reunited with the Semel-ra and held our breath when we are fighting for Logan, Crane and Yuri to fix the ' affront to their Reah.
But it is also a fascinating history, when we visit Egypt and feel the breeze on the skin and Jin hear tell of the ancient gods and pharaohs and of course, exciting when we read the pages that describe the passionate love scenes of Jin and Logan. As usual in books of this writer, social issues are intertwined with fantasy, but they are always positive feelings to prevail. Trusted Bond has a tight plot, alternating with other sweet moments of action and movement in a swing of situations that keep the reader in suspense.The only bad thing about this book is because I do not think the cover is consistent with the history(less)

THIS BOOK IS A-FREAKING-MAZING. I’m not kidding. I want to coat it in chocolate and rub myself all over it, it’s that good.

I should tell you two things before I gush about the book:

1. This is a sequel. The first book is Change of Heart. I looked in my reading log to see what I rated it – I gave it a four. You need to read the first book before you read this book. It won’t be as good if you don’t.

4.5 stars. This one, for me, gets its stars because even if the story wasn't a good one, anyone who can write with that level of detail and still keep things interesting is totally deserving, and this story is a good one. It lost half a star for me because although it was a wonderfully fascinating, detailed story taking us right back into the world of the Werepanthers, it lacked some of the warmth I felt whilst reading Change of Heart, the prelude story to this one.

I can’t say this book was a disappointment but in my opinion it didn’t live up to Change of Heart. Jin, who I loved in the first story, became annoying at times. He was the primary character with Logan a distant second and all the great supporting characters from the first book playing very minor parts. So many new characters were added it got confusing with each having a rank for their individual tribes that made it even more confusing and very difficult to remember who belonged where.

I think Mary Calmes is a guilty pleasure. I read her books and can point out the flaws, of which there are many, yet there is an engaging voice and sheer outrageousness to the characters and actions that delivers an entertaining and fun read regardless. Calmes is the kind of reader that fans love even if the story has issues and I can appreciate that because there is something about the characters that draws you in. I easily read Trusted Bond in one sitting and although it sets up the same situa...more I think Mary Calmes is a guilty pleasure. I read her books and can point out the flaws, of which there are many, yet there is an engaging voice and sheer outrageousness to the characters and actions that delivers an entertaining and fun read regardless. Calmes is the kind of reader that fans love even if the story has issues and I can appreciate that because there is something about the characters that draws you in. I easily read Trusted Bond in one sitting and although it sets up the same situation over and over again – Jin in trouble, again as everyone wants him – the story remains entertaining.

In this sequel to Change of Heart, Jin and his mate Logan are back. Jin is the star of this story as his special status makes him a repeated target. I’d suggest you read the first book before tackling the sequel or re-read the first book if you want to understand it all. You can pick this one up for the sheer guilty pleasure and not care about the various interconnecting storylines and then it won’t matter. I’d read CoH over a year ago and while I could remember some details, Trusted Bond throws out tons of names, details, positions, and situations that seem foreign without any context. I was pretty lost in how the majority of these people and their jobs/positions connected to Jin and his family but after a while I just gave up and didn’t care.

The world building feeds into this confusion since it’s so haphazard. The rules and theories of the werepanther world change to meet whatever tension and drama is needed. This is what happened in the first book and continues here with rules mentioned and then ignored later with no consequences. It keeps the tension high as the overly political were packs have tons of rules, regulations, laws, and protocol that all work to keep Jin from Logan, or so it seems. So the reader is never quite sure what will happen since really anything can. It’s a very sloppy way of creating tension with messy world building at best. Additionally, many of the characters offer information via dialogue that makes no sense. The information is important for the reader but the characters would already know it, so their saying it is a clumsy way of conveying that information to the reader.

The action tends to be very frantic and exaggerated with the characters even more so. Jin is once again the special were panther with abilities never seen in one like him before. He’s the super special flower, the only one in existence that’s like him and well if you’ve read Calmes books before you know how exaggerated and perfect her characters tend to be. Jin is no better but he has warmth and charm that makes you want to forgive his obvious characterization and root for him anyway. His chemistry with Logan is smoking hot and their sex scenes are delightful, sexy, and plentiful. He is too perfect though and he only becomes more so in this book with even more power, even more special abilities, and even more people vying to save or kill him.

The frantic action keeps the story hopping though as Jin manages to be beaten, kidnapped, and/or both no less than three times in a row. There is some relationship drama with Logan as Logan’s gay for you love freaks Jin out. Jin comes to put more trust and faith in Logan and their love by the end of the story and the two have a special, one of a kind connection. Their relationship works even though Logan never really gets out of his rather flat, two dimensional box. The story is all about Jin though so that’s ok. I wish Domin and Koren would get their own book because that’s a couple that nearly steals all the attention when they’re on page.

Really the engaging writing and easy to read entertainment make this a fun guilty pleasure. It has a lot of problems though so for those readers that are bothered by messy world building, clumsy information dumps, perfect characters, and obvious scenarios may have problems with this. It’s not perfect at all and will appeal more to those readers that can ignore the faults because they enjoy the writing anyway. If you’re that reader – you’ll likely adore this. This was more 3 1/2 stars for me due to several reasons. I absolutely loved Change of Heart, the first book in this series. It took me a long time to decided to read this book because I'm not a fan of shifter books however because I love Mary and her characters I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. I adore Jin and Logan and Mary did not disappoint in creating another amazing couple that captured me. No one creates characters like Mary. They're amazing.

I'd like to say this book was worth waiting for, but I really hate waiting. I will say it was absolutely fantastic and please, please let there still be more to come! Sometimes authors go a little too far with sequels - having a couple break-up, cheat, or other storylines that ruins the happiness from the first book. I don't know what it is about Mary Calmes books but they are so easy to read u feel like u have just started and before u know it are at the end. That said as much as I enjoyed this book there was a small section in the middle that annoyed me, it just wasn't needed in my opinion. That said it did not spoil my enjoyment of this book and I hope that we will be seeing jin and Logan again soon

FABULOUS!! I absolutely love the relationship with Jin and Logan. Being that the relationship was already established, we were able to move on from all of the meeting and falling for eachother stuff. But there still was the ups and downs that you will find in any relationship. There was a lot of drama in this book that kept me on the edge of my seat. There were also A LOT of names to remember. I finished reading the novel and I thought the first one was better than this one. But again, there are hardly any novel in a series that could beat the first one.

Kaaay... I still think that there were some annoying aspects of this novel. The fact that everyone just cut someone's sentence somewhat just... how to say it? Disturbing. And gee! Jin might be on his weak state but he didn't have to faint for like a hundred times in a chapter.

Jin and Logan are back again in this sequel to "Change of Heart". Without trying to spoil anything I'll just say some VERY interesting changes for Jin and Logan.

This book had a much different feel from the first. CoH (Change of Heart)was a much sweeter story with some hot sex thrown in there. Trusted Bond was a much more angsty sort of book. Jin is put through so many crazy things in this book but in the end he comes out stronger and with a better grasp on his feelings. It's amazing how strong he is.
