I was surprised that I actually liked this book. The writing was above average, and the romance didn't seem too chessy -- until the end anyway. But some of the plotlines sort of fizzled out. For example, I picked up the book because the back cover talked about the MC finding out a secret in her family's background that had to do with their Scottish heritage. I was dissapointed to find that this was only used as a catalyst for the plotline of another character, who ends up dead. It felt like Chek...more

“SHADOW DANCE started off with an ancient mystery concerning a Buchanan and MacKenna family feud. That's enough for me. I got comfortable and readied myself for a good read. Ms Garwood had my attention...but then lost it. Somehow the plot skidded all over the place and never came together. Once the professor, who informed the main character about the feud, died, so did any follow up to this story line. The pacing was very slow, which surprised me since the back cover promoted this book as a su...more

Good book. Not outstanding or something with a great "wow" factor, but a good solid book. It starts off a bit slow, as have several other Garwood books I've read, but the storyline picks up.
For a romantic suspense that involves murder and mayhem, the book has a rather low-intensity, laid-back feel to it. It didn't keep me on my toes like other romantic suspenses I've read.
The romance was decent...I liked both Jordan and Noah; they had some passion between them, but I wasn'...more

The story takes place in Serenity, Texas. The concept of the story is nothing new. How small towns can have corrupt law inforcement but the people are very friendly. The twist comes into play that the person they are trying to victamize has a family of law inforcement. Her Dad is a federal judge, her brother is FBI, another brother is a detective, etc. I was in the dark as to who the "boss" was until it unfolded in the story.

I am still terribly disappointed that Ms. Garwood crossed over to the dark side of contemporary romance. Her style does NOT lend itself well to contemporary settings--her heroines are dopes (and carbon copies of each other) and her heroes are medieval lairds stuck in politically correct sensibilities. The fact that Noah Clayborne is a descendant of THE Claybornes did not save him. The whole thing was vanilla.

I really love Julie Garwood, but this book was missing....something. Maybe it's because I waited so long for Noah's story?
Still very, very enjoyable, just not up to her earlier standards. I'm glad to hear that she's going back to historicals and will be re-reading those in anticipation.

I felt this book was so much fun to read that I recommended it to my friends. Some reading should be done for fun and enjoyment (at least I think so) and I found both in this one. It was clever and hard to put down with the fast pace and interesting characters.

I love Judy Garwood and recently picked this book up shortly after it went to paperback. I would say it was not her best novel but it still kept me very entertained and was a very easy quick read. I would recommend if you like romance novels.

It was so awesome! My favorite character would have to be Noah, he was so sarcastic and hilarious! I loved the ending(and beginning and middle)! It had me laughing so hard and gripping the edge of my seat at the suspense. A book to enjoy!

I really loved Julie Garwood for a long time..and now I just don't. Her books are full of holes, rushed, and cluttered with characters that I cannot care about. Will re-read one of her older books before I buy another of her new ones.

I picked this up at CVS to kill time at orientation at USF, and ended up being unable to put it down. It's essentially a fluff thriller with a love story thrown in, but it was better written than most typical suspense paperbacks.

This is the first contemporary one of Julie Garwood's that I've read. I had no idea where the story was going and the things that happened to Jordan made me laugh. It was a fun light read with a few twists I wasn't expecting

This was not like any of her other books. You read in her other books about Noah and how he is such a strong character and adventurous and how he saves the day over and over. But this book, to me, didn't do him justice.

Although I enjoyed it (and the characters), it was too easy to guess who was the killer. Actually everything was easy to guess, including the relationship between Noah and Jordan. Good enough for the train, I guess.

I usually enjoy Julie Garwood books. I didn't want to put this one down once I started. It's an interesting mystery set in a small Texas town. It's a romantic mystery with lots of heat between Jordan and Noah.

It was a good book and I enjoyed the interaction between the H/H, however I felt something about the mystery aspect was lacking. Without giving anything away I just didn't feel that everything added up.

This is the first Garwood book I have read. It's simple, no complicated characters, an interesting plot, and fun to read. It's like watching a chick flick! I'll read more of her.

A 3-star review for Garwood is disappointing, though, since I used to just love her books. This one just didn't seem to have the humor or the human connections that her others have.
