Spiritual lives have seasons. Sometimes, I'm a Liturgy of the Hours sort of guy; other times, I'm in a simple prayer and devotional mood. Then there are those dark nights of the soul where I'd rather do anything else but spend time conscious of God's presence. Right now, it's devotion season, and I can't think of anyone better to hear from than Charles Spurgeon. He's considered the King of Preachers for a reason. Bought as a gift for my husband when he was still a newborn in Christ, I read it most mornings after he was finished. I really appreciate Spurgeon's fervor and his challenge to the church, and would describe his writings here as the "pure spiritual milk" that Peter describes. A great supplement for those starting out in the Word.
