I tried to read this book, but the writing really annoyed me. I read the first 25 pages and then realized I wasn't going to be able stomach the voice for another chapter, much less another 200 pages. I'm not sure if it was the writing itself or the fact that it was translated from French, but it was EXACTLY what I tend to dislike about literary fiction: TOO WORDY. I read it because a critic said something like, "this book is written by a woman about men and it seems at first written for women, but you will eventually realize that it's actually written "for men." It gives a very stimulating feminine insight about men, which is often raw and realistic. It felt realistic and I liked it.

Whew 5 stars. This was an extraordinary book that was such a phenomenon in France and I loved it. Camille loves men and when she turns her interest to the psychiatrist, she becomes his patient and tells all the stories connected to the men in her life, both past and present. It is a sensual read and a rich tapestry of anecdotes and encounters. Very clever.

Life doesn't have to be this complicated. Make better choices to start with and you'll have fewer problems later, lady.
