"What goes on in the Palace, stays in the Palace..."

Life seems well within the "Nubian Underworld" of the ATL, as Ramesses, his wife Neferterri, and their submissives are at the center of what can only be described as "paradise" by those who have seen the debauchery within. Amenhotep, Ramesses' mentor, is on the verge of bringing in his newest slave to reside with him at t

Once you realize that Fifty Shades of that color is a joke you turn to a book and author who does the BDSM lifestyle justice. This is my first time reading anything from this author. This book was well written with special attention to details and Shakir Rashaan writing style has earned him a new fan. This book starts off with two keys components to assist with the reading. "Special Note To Readers" and the "Introduction". Normally I would have skipped both and start with the first chapter, good ...more

When I first started reading The Awakening, I couldn’t tell if this was a fictional novel or just an introduction into the Atlanta BDSM scene. The first part of the novel read more like a primer for people wanting to learn more about BDSM. It took a long while for me to grasp what the plot was in this book. A lot of time was used explaining protocols and dissecting character dialogue. I felt like this really disrupted the flow of the story. There wer

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Set in the Atlanta area this BDSM story is about Ramesses (AKA Kane) and his wife Neferterri (AKA Mercedes) and their life as a Dom and Domme with their 3 submissives.

I had to DNF this story at 40% because there really wasn’t anything going on except lots of sex with various people. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I was expecting more of a story from the blurb. The characters have zero depth and yet their emotions se

This book was my awakening I have read other books with BDSM but this book is something different. The other books I have read were a more romanticized version of BDSM this book is just damn sexy and more hardcore. Ramesses, his wife Neferterri are hardcore into BDSM and it is not a bad thing. It is sexy as hell when you read about it and you find feeling as you are right there watching what is going on wiping your mouth as it waters and finding yourself needing something knowing what it is but a ...more

Shakir Rashaan wrote an erotica with an ancient Egyptian twist of gods and goddesses as well as slaves to meet the pleasures of these Masters. Then drifts into modern and all. It lingers into swing relations, big parties, and sexual innuendos.

This book was a quick read; however I couldn't connect to the characters or even the flow of the story. Overall, I didn't like it but nothing was wrong with the writing itself (e.g grammar, etc.). Good luck with the next book in the series.

Yowza. I've had this book on my TBR for awhile and I'm so glad that I finally bit the bullet, so to speak. Mr. Rashaan has done a great job creating a whole new style of erotica that may have some of the same labels as other books but is happily defining it's own unique niche in a crowded and confusing genre.

There were times early on in The Awakening when I felt like I was watching a new couples reality TV show: KINKY Chocolate: Atlanta or I was in a master class of BDSM, African American Style

In all truth, BDSM reads are not my norm and the unapologetic portrayal of this world that the author offers often had me reeling. But, in truth, is that not the purpose of a good book? To take you to places you wouldn't normally go, and to, if you're lucky, confront you with that which you would not normally encounter? To rattle the foundations of your comfort zone. Well, for me, that was without question this book, and I applaud it for just that alone.

The Awakening invites the reader into the

Pleasure Versus Pain

"The Awakening" centers around Lord Ramesses (Kane) and his wife, Lady Neferterri (Mercedes) and their alternative sexual lifestyle. Mix in jealousy, betrayal, and sex, and you are in for a treat. It will leave you believing the old saying... things aren't always what they appear to be.

"Chronicles of the Nubian Underground:The Awakening" introduces its readers to the underground world of Atlanta's BDSM Community. For those who are unfamiliar, BDSM is an erotic practice and e

This was such a hot and satisfying read. It lets you in on the most private and personal parts of a black BDSM family in Atlanta, and there is plenty of love and lust and drama to keep you enthralled. You get to know a variety of characters, and strong character development gives a full picture of all of their desires and fears. So if you fall for them like I did, you'll wanna keep reading to find out what adventures they'll have next.

I'm talking about the plot here, which is saying something ab

wooh! Ok, let's see.. This was my introduction to Shakir as well as the BDSM lifestyle and boy was I not ready. I was reading in doses trying to keep my mind from wandering into the depths of the lifestyle that I had very little knowledge of. He gave the onlookers a show worth reading about and a couple of things to linger in the imagination. If you're a bit shy maybe you shouldn't read it in paperback form. I'm sure you'll get a few points and giggles and certainly a few ummmmm, what is that bo ...more

Omg! From beginning to end, Shakir definitely had me flipping the pages so fast I wanna read it again. I loved the characters and it had me so mad when someone slighted or treated them unfairly. Neferterri and Ramesses are quite a couple and not to messed with. They handle business: both in the boardroom and in the dungeon. If you want a view into the world of BDSM, not like FSOG but soooo much better, definitely check this book out and you won't be disappointed. Might as well thank me now. Can' ...more

The Awakening is an amazing story built around the BDSM lifestyle in the Atalanta African American community. For those whoever wondered if this lifestyle truly is practice among-st people of color outside what one reads in a hot, steamy BDSM novel, this story will give just that... Insight and a clear understanding its not just about sex and kink, but love and family! Yes, there are two other parts to this story, which I can not wait to read, lol...

A interesting look into the world of BDSM. The story of Ramesses and Neferterri is a worth the read. You meet the many subs who are very special to them and in the world of BDSM. I loved how strong the love shared between Ramesses and Neferterri was no matter what came up. This novel is a love story and a intense look into the African- American Fetish Community with it's good and bad. So get your copy and enjoy the ride. Don't forget what goes on in the Palace stays in the Palace.!!!

Welcome to the Underworld...

Within this realm, you must be secure within yourself and know exactly how to play your role, there is no room for second guessing. Free will does exist but to submit can be bliss. As the Dom, control is in your hands to be handled accordingly.

With open eyes, you'll experience pleasures you've never fathomed and thirst for more. Begging will be second nature, awakening your evolution...

I enjoyed this book immensely. It was an accurate portrayal of BDSM life: the protocol, the dressing up for events, etc. My favorite part was the show of emotions between the doms and their sub/slave. You could tell their depth of emotions were truly a two-way street. They needed/loved her just as much as she did them. Overall, a wonderful book. Can't wait to read the next.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a very interesting and rare look into the little known underground fetish/BDSM world that is part of the African American community nestled within the ATL. I look forward to reading book two of these chronicles.

3.5 stars...Full review to be posted at a later date.

The book sets up a nice beginning for what I hope will be an interesting ride thru the bdsm community of Atlanta. I am patiently waiting on the next book to see where this ride will take me.

Wow is all I can say. I didn't realize how naive I was but this was an eye opener. I look forward to the next segment in the chronicles.

This book was an ok read, but I was confused as to what the author was trying to do: tell me a story, introduce me the BDSM scene, or just tell an erotic story.

Honestly a quick read. Being sick and all I picked up this book knowing it was good. I got it for a penny off Amazon so that was a win but I wish I could've actually supported such a good author because I loved this book. Now if you're looking for a set plot then this isn't a book for you but if you just want to read about black bdsm YASSS read this shit. This had be drop into subspace when Kitana was getting her own punishment. I loved it. I ordered all three books together and I will be starti ...more
