Ridley Pearson dove into writing for youth with the popular Peter Pan prequels he has been writing with Dave Barry. They were marketed through Disney so it should not be surprising to see that his first standalone book for middle schoolers is also produced Disney.
Finn, an eighth grader living in Orlando, Florida, was lucky enough to be hired to participate in a new technologicaly based docent program for the Magic Kingdom. They were taken and scanned so their images could be converted in...more

I liked this book, although parts are a bit corny. I think kids familiar with Disneyland or Disney World would enjoy it better than those who are not. Places and rides in the Magic Kingdom are mentioned without too much description. It helps if the reader can add the details and atmosphere of these places from memory. I found myself wishing I had a map handy, although not necessary I personally would have enjoyed that.

Recommended to me by several of my teen patrons, I found this book to be a surprisingly imaginative and highly *fun* fantasy/sci-fi adventure. Five middle schoolers have been chosen to become DHIs -- Disney Host Interactives. Their voice and images are recorded via computer and cast as holograms throughout Disney World, allowing tourists to have three-dimensional "tour guides" on hand at all times to lead them throughout the park. However, there's more to being a DHI than lending your ...more

I read this because one of my 6th graders kept telling me how good it was. It came out in 2005, and I’m sure it’s not a coincidence that Gail Carson Levine’s Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg came out that same year. It seems that Disney paid a lot of money to talented writers to flesh out bad storylines involving classic Disney characters. (Although, I adore David Christiana’s illustrations in the latte...more

Hmmm it was an 'ok read' would probably be the best way that I would describe this one.
For myself it is not something I would normally consider, but this book was recommended by some friends who've recently just returned from the States and a trip to Disneyland (and it was recommended to them by the US locals !)
A somewhat flimsy and decidedly rushed tale of 5 teenagers hand picked to 'save' Disney from the evil that attempts to take over after closing time and night falls.

FABULOUS book. It takes you on an adventure through the Magic Kingdom, and lets you see many sides of the park, both in front and behind the scenes.
Five young teens are given the task of dispatching evil within the park. Characters come alive left and right, and many turn against the teens so they can keep tearing the park apart. And Finn, the leader of the all, has a couple of girls to worry about, not knowing if he can trust either of them.
If you're a Disney fan at all, this book will...more

Four teenagers, who are cast as holographic guides for Disney's Magic Kingdom, discover a secret world where Disney villains come alive and are trying to take over the world (both inside and outside the park).
Sounds intriguing and original, especially for this Disney World fan. I enjoyed reading insider information about rides like Space Mountain and it's a small world, but the trivia was not enough to save this poorly written book.

I read this book because I love Disney World and I like fiction so it seemed like a good combination. The story was odd. It had an odd primise that took a while for me to get into. Basiclly Disney had invinted virtual tour guides (like holograms) that can walk around the park and give tours to guests. Instead of using workers they used kids to base this program off of. Now the holograms are taking over the Magic Kingdom, and pretty soon the world.

This is "The DaVinci Code" for adolescents and set in Disney World. I actually bought the book at Disney World because I thought it would be fun. I was very disappointed. This was one of the most amateurishly written books I have ever read. I know he's writing for kids, but that doesn't excuse a total lack of writing style. Add some basic factual errors (Walt Disney could not have left secret messages in the Winnie the Pooh ride because it was built decades after his death)and an ...more

OMG. I am about to wring my daughter's little neck. I started this book at 7 when she finished, and finished it at 1 am. Laughed from the third sentence-- the protagonist finds himself in the Town Square in Magic Kingdom. "In his pajamas." I could just see myself in that position.
Bottom line: the back story in the book, a fable about the stone cutter, makes a phenomenal sermon illustration. Glad she laughed so much at the book that I had to read it. But a) no sleep. b) weird d...more

If you like Disney films (The classics) Then you would like this book. It is set in the distant future, A boy and a bunch of his friends get sucked into "Disneyland After dark" Where they can explore the rides that come alive and REAL at night. From the Haunted Mansion Ghosts to the Robo Pirates stealing the carts from The Buzz Lightyear Ride. But they soon find out that all the Disney witches have come alive and want to take over the park, and to take over the park is one step closer ...more

I enjoy all things Disney and I also enjoy a good mystery so this seemed like a perfect book for me. I thought overall it was an engaging story -- it had a few plot holes and unanswered questionss with things not being as well tied up at the end as I like them to be which leads me to believe that there will be or already is a sequel.
The story is an interesting concept and it was a pretty good read - not classic by any means but entertaining.

Pearson writes better and more compellingly with Dave Barry. I definitely recommend the duo's Peter series over this, as alone, Pearson's transitions are not so much transitions as jump cuts, and his resolution is abrupt and rather unsatisfying. But the concept is intriguing and the story interesting, and anybody who loves the Disney parks should enjoy it. Good reading for the 9-12 set.

I have been reading a lot of kids books lately, and I love it because I can get through them quickly. Also I can know what my girls are reading, or let them know if there is a book that they would love to read. This was a fun book. Whitney loved it. What kid doesn't wonder what Disneyland is like after it closes. It was a little scary at parts.

In this book, you find out what happens in Disneyland...at night. Some kids who work there are sent on a mission to save Disneyland from Maleficent and her followers. Finn, the leader of the kids, bravely steps up to the night. At first, he wasn't willing to go there, but he knew he had to. This exciting novel will make you shiver!

Own this one. Loved by me and my children. For any fans of Disneyland and what can happen after dark; it is an adventure. My 3rd grader can't put it down. Takes a couple chapters to get exciting.
