Marqus Sedgwick's "The Dark Flight Down," continues the story of Boy and his friend Willow and a new journey with the scientist Kepler. Boy runs an errand for Kepler and ends up incarcerated in the dungeon of the Emperor Frederick's palace. In this thrilling conclusion to the story of Boy there are many thrills and mysteries to be solved as the gruesome Phantom attacks and Maxim, who serves as the Emperor's closest advisor, tries to use Boy to find the Book to use to serve his own purposes. A gr...more
Very similar to the first one. A bit more frustrating as the children continued to acquiese to every adult they came across, whether that adult had authority over them or not. I could understand it in the first book, as the adult was a mean, physically abusive man but not in this second book. A couple of mild profanities.

Very gripping, it was very hard to put down once I started it. The characters were very real, and the Emperor in particular I liked as he is so gullible and naive, and funny at times. Maxim made a very good evil right hand man to the Emperor, and the relationship between Boy and Willow was moving as well...
I've NEVER stopped reading a book half way through in my life, but this book............ Was a first. I HAD to stop reading it. I read multiple books at a time and when reading it and Shiver, well, it's over shadowed and I've stopped reading it. perhaps I bought a book to young for me. I don't know, I just didn't enjoy it.
This is the sequel to The Book of Dead Days, and it was just as good as the first one, if not somewhat more satisfying. It's not heavy or deep, but it's an enjoyable and quick read if you're looking for something to be absorbed by for a day or so. It did seem a little bit bare-bones in its detail, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, and I probably just noticed it because I haven't been reading a lot of youth fiction lately (other than Harry Potter, which, as we all know, isn't really bare-bo...more
This book is the sequel to The Book of Dead Days. It continues the story of Boy, who is still trying to gigure out who he is. He gets taken to the Imperial Palace and becomes a part of everything, at the same time the crazy emperor is trying to become immortal. This book is really exciting because it has a lot of suspense and plot twists. The only thing I didnt like about the book is the ending. Boy finds out who is and much much more! If your going to read then I recommend reading the Book of D...more

This is the 2nd and final in the series. Much more compelling. I did not want to put this one down.
Again with the wonderfully sinister atmosphere. Yum. Sequel to The Book of Dead Days and every bit as awesome!

“It was like a new kind of vision, seeing with eyes as keen as scalpel blades, that cut away desires and emotions and wishful thinking and left only what was fact.”
