Marie Bilodeau (Goodreads Author)
"Marie Bilodeau knocks my socks off. She's got an amazing eye for detail and a sumptuous narrative voice. Destiny's Blood is a winner -- another home run from one of Canada's best new authors." --Robert J. Sawyer, Hugo Award-winning author of WAKE

It's been a while since I've read Science Fiction. I met the author at last year's (2012) Can-Con, a speculative fiction convention in Ottawa. We traded books.
I really enjoyed this book. It had some really wonderful, refreshing ideas (I'm particularly fond of the sentient plant-life friend of the twins. Nice idea). The pacing was very well done.
The language, for me, as well as the characters would put this book firmly in the YA category for me, though... what would I know? I was always a precoci...more

Destiny's Blood is a compelling, exciting, adventure story that doesn't
give the reader or the characters time to catch their breaths. The
story follows Layela on her run from the law and her search for answers
- answers she believes her twin sister Yoma holds. On the way she is
both helped and hindered on her quest by friends who strive to protect
her from the dangers she faces and the destiny she would rather avoid.

A terrific read. Sci/fi and spirituality combined perfectly in a story of destiny. And blood. It begins so unassumingly in a flower shop, and ends with a closing line that is both reassuring and foreboding.
Marie knows how to tell a story: pace, check; interestingly real characters, check; suspense, you better believe that's a check; wit, check; tar monsters... TAR monsters? YES, TAR MONSTERS! And space battles. And gold-hearted rogues. And twins with visions. And plant-people. And did I mention...more

This was the first science fiction novel I have read in a long time. The author came highly recommended by Robert J. Sawyer. I liked the twins, their shady past and strange visions, the Berganda (plant people), space ships and twists in the plot. Very engaging and enjoyable. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
I received this book directly from the author and she signed it! I was so happy to get it after entering to win books for a long time and not ever winning. I must say it was worth the wait! Marie Bilodeau is an amazing author. There is mystery upon mystery inside of this book and it is action packed! I absolutely loved it and can't wait to read more of her books!
Marie Bilodeau's book, Destiny's Blood, is a fantastic adventure that never lets down the pace. This Aurora Award Nominee (2011) is fast paced as we are introduced to Yoma and Layela, twins who have had a sorrid past. It is Layela who wishes to settle down to a nice quiet life as a florist while her sister continues the theive's lifestyle. The twins are searched for by both evil and friendly forces to bring back life to the First Star. Throughout their adventures they are knocked down and rise u...more
