Ever since the stunning commercial success of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, writer after writer has tried to pull Brown’s sword of success from the stone of mediocrity. In order to convince themselves their efforts are working, their book jackets are decorated with quotes comparing them favourably to Mr. Brown and claiming ascendency to his throne. No matter how these upstarts toil, they will never receive the same acclaim or cash as Dan Brown for one simple reason: he was a trailblazer and t More...

Pretty much like reading a Dan Brown book -- somehow the whole style could almost have been his. Mum said she thought Sam Bourne was better: I'm not sure, maybe a little. It's enjoyable enough as light reading, a page-turner, a pot-boiler, whatever. The sense of urgency was a bit difficult -- for some people in the story, it was the end of the world; for the sceptical reader, and for the main character, it was "just" one woman and her unborn child. A bit lacking, maybe, given that the More...

A mind-blowing debut novel by Bourne that had me very interested in the plot, theme, and characters The Righteous Men is surely worth the time and effort. While I am not one for religious themed books, this one left the traditional "love your neighbour as Jesus would" type and actually used the idea of orthodoxy amid both Jews and Christians to really open the reader's eyes to what is out there. I had no idea about replacement theology, nor was I familiar with the 35 righteous men, but More...

All those Dan Brown comparisons almost put me off reading this. Fortunately, this isn't another bad Da Vinci Code rip off, although there are similarities in the style of writing and some of the themes on display. This is a solid work of fiction with interesting and vivid characters. There are more than a few gripping moments and I admit to being sucked into the world of Will Monroe and Jewish folklore quite easily. The ending wasn't quite as satisfying as I'd hoped with some less than surprisin More...

I enjoyed the basic story line, and there were enough twists and unforeseen turns to keep me guessing and interested. However, it was just a bit too long, with too much information thrown at you at times. Some bits could have easily been skipped without taking anything away from the stroy. For instance, sending Will and Sandy to the Atlas statue - I don't see the point of that really, and Sandy's character could have been made more of (or left out completely) - he was just a bit too incidental f More...

William Monroe, a New York Times reporter finds his wife kidnapped by the Hassidic community. In an attempt to rescue her, he uncovers a connection between the mysterious sudden deaths of a handful of men from every corner of the world. This connection will endanger not only himself and his wife, but the fate of the world may be at hand.

Author, Sam Bourne is said to be "the biggest challenger to Dan Brown's crown" by the Mirror. I fail to concur. While this novel is admitted More...

Yes it is another book about religious mysteries, murder, history and legends just like The DaVinci Code - which in all fairness isnt as fantastic as many people say.

The Righteous men is a good enough thriller but its nothing special in any way. It doesnt give you that sense of being trancended into its world like the really good books do. But hey its like a good pop song you hear on the radio - you dont run off to buy the album but you dont turn it off directly either.

Its good enough to spend More...

This book is always going to be compared to Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code. I actually found Bourne's book easier to read and rather gripping. There are similarities in the writing style and some of the themes but I feel this book has more moments that grip you. I got sucked into the character of Will Monroe and wanted to find out what had happened to Beth. The sections on Jewish folklore were also interesting and they were written in a way that was easy to read. I think people should ignore the More...

At first Will just thinks he's lucked out in finding a good news story to chase. Two murders on opposite sides of the country, intriguing because both involve men who are remembered for unexpectedly making a sacrifice that can only be explained as "righteous". Will doesn't immediately make the connection, but when he is sent a message that his wife has been kidnapped he desperately starts to follow the kidnappers trail. Which leads him to a religious sect, an ancient legend, and mor More...

Will Monroe, a New York Times reporter, discovers a link between two murders in New York and Montana. Then his wife is kidnapped because of what he knows. His investigation brings him in the heart of the jewish orthodox community, where he learns a lot about the kabbala, the end of the world and the lamed vav, the 36 righteous men.

I give the book 4 stars because for once this is a religious thriller that has nothing to do with Mary Magdalene or Jesus Christ. Thank God ! You also lear More...

The book sounds promising on the face of it but is poorly executed. I felt I was being preached at for most of it, with the author never missing an opportunity to flaunt his knowledge of Judaism and also, irritatingly and pointlessly, far too many lines in Yiddish. It might be interesting for him but it's very boring for readers. I found myself skip-reading a lot of it, which I rarely do. I cared little for the characters and found some of the scenes ludicrous. The ending was predictable, with t More...

This book is a fast-paced thriller that kept me turning pages after I started it, and is really good if you're looking for a few hours of reading entertainment time. Don't expect great literature here, because it is simply a suspense thriller, but it tops pretty much everything on the shelves currently. I liked it with one caveat. I thought it was a bit predictable, but there is a good twist at the end that I wasn't expecting so that made up for the predictability factor. And it is a bit far-fet More...

"Il codice dei giusti" di Sam Bourne potrebbe apparire come il solito thriller da spiaggia. Invece è un romanzo che ti cattura sin dalla prima pagina per l'abilità di costruire insieme ad una trama eccitante, anche una serie di personaggi indimenticabili.
A tratti similare al "Codice da Vinci" ha però un grande pregio rispetto al filone di Dan Brown, l'originalità. Il "chassidico" legato "all'occultismo" infatti non è un argomento che abbia già fatto p

This book was well researched and kept me on the edge of my seat. There are murders across the world of men with nothing in common, and yet, they are all connected in some mysterious way. This is a story from the bible and interpreted by a group of Jewish clergy from Brooklyn are searching for answers. The book is a good story and since so much is based on true beliefs and the bible it gives it a rich feeling. I will read other books by Sam Bourne soon.

I really like this. Generally I choose chick lit, but I enjoyed the Dan Brown books, and thought I'd give this a try as it's in the same vein.

I'm sure there are lots of people who really don't like it, but as long as you don't expect any kind of classic literature, and you just want an easy to read thriller - then it's great. I reckon that if you liked Dan Brown, then you'll like this.
(Is that damning with faint praise though....)

Conspiracy theories have been done to exhaustion, I should know. My next novel is plotted around a secret society. Yet Bourne's choice of an Hassidim Jews society is genial, and difficult to write. Men, singled out as good men, are being assasinated all over the world, and there's a link.
The atmosphere is breathtaking. Sam is a superb writer. Now I'll carry on reading.

A little different than you're usual run-of-the-mill mysteries. While the story tended to drag a bit I didn't really mind as I found the factual information about Judaism very interesting. I would like to read the book recommended by the author by Gershom Scholem, 'Messianic Idea in Judaism' and would also like to read more on the legend of the 'lamad vav'. Interesting.

great, exciting read. cool riddles and i was really shocked at the identity of the bad guy. didn't c that coming. so it wasn't those books u figure it out halfway through, which always kills the suspense a bit.
i liked the idea of the righteous men... men who seem ordinary, even sinful, but in the end are the kind of ppl to admire, even if they don't want it.

Billed as being similar to Dan Brown .... this is a good thriller about a devoutly Jewish group tied in with a kidnap and a worldwide serial killer. A good pageturner though at times I felt the main character was acting way too calmly for someone whose beloved wife had been kidnapped! I'll look out for more books by this author though.

Una historia que en su inicio promete muchísimo y conforme va transcurriendo la historia pierde fuerza y se vuelve predecible.

Someone is killing the world's truly righteous men in a test of an ancient Hassidic belief dating back to the destruction of Sodom. An interesting read, in the same line of Dan Brown, with a Jewish twist. I enjoy these kinds of historical thrillers. The main caste are a little wooden, but a nice plot.

Cheesy, unconvincing. One of the dozen or so books that jumped to Dan Brown bandwagon after Da Vinci Code proved that religiously themed thrillers can sell well.
Decent enough to finish, but this would be one of those books that sounds absolutely horrible if you recount what happens in it.

I found the story dragged too much and thought it could have been a hundred pages shorter to make it tighter. As a result, I skimmed through sections rather than reading fully. There was obviously a lot of research undertaken, but this sometimes bogged the story down when being relayed.

Not a very good read.. trying to get to the end of this boring far to slow..repeating its self.. book.
I thought it would be like Dan Browns books but was I told wrong!
I dont care if the story line means the end of the world ..just do it! lets turn the last page and end it all.
