Part of the Monica series, this “real life” book focuses on middle school Monica having to baby-sit her second grade stepsister Angela. Bratty Angela does everything she can to make Monica’s day go wrong, and the book culminates in the two coming to an understanding about why they are having a hard time getting along. Recommended for gr. 4-6, maybe through 8th grade for low level readers. The story is fairly simple and predictable and might not hold the interest of older readers, although the main character is supposedly in the 8th grade. (The cover model looks more like a 6th grader to me.) The simple narrative is made more interesting with emphasis placed on occasional words and sentences using a larger font and an accent color. Diana G. Gallagher is an American author who writes books for children and young adults based on television series. She has contributed to book series based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Charmed, among others.

Born in 1946, in Paterson, New Jersey, she now lives in Florida with her husband, the writer Martin Burke. She sometimes also writes under the name Diana Burke.
