Where to start? Not sure about the whole basic plot and whether the characters could or would act in the way portrayed. Credibility appears to have been sacrificed on the altar of pace. Trite phrases and predictable outcomes and again - the danger to the protagonists kith and kin - supposedly motivating the various actions taken. Grr - a pet hate. Disjointed, in that the chapters end with a supposed cliff hanger. Contrived ending - ooh - I forgot to mention the prophecy(!)! why does there always...more

Rating -- 2.5

I wanted to love this book because I loved the premise -- waking up one day to find yourself in someone else's body and with some crazy cool new mental powers. Discovering you are part of a huge conspiracy. It was so intriguing and the actual story itself did keep me hooked until the end. However, the book completely fell apart in the execution. There were huge gaping plot holes you could have driven a semi through. (Like the police are searching everywhere for the main character bu...more

Very comic-book like Christian Science Fiction, but maybe a bit too breathless for its own good.

Collin Boyd one day looks up and sees himself walking away. He looks back down and sees he is in the body of a complete stranger. In his confusion, he runs into a barefoot girl who tells him to flee the city. He doesn't, and he is soon battling assassins. From there it's a rollercoaster of a ride, centered around both his identity change and the ring he now wears.

I have to say I enjoyed reading this b...more

I downloaded this book for free for my Sony e-reader.

This book got off to a great start. One day Collin is on his way to work -- everything seems completely normal until he sees someone who looks exactly like him across the street. Not only does this guy look like his twin, but Collin soon realizes this guy is actually him, and somehow he's been dumped into someone else's body. I really liked this premise, but about a fourth of the way into it, the book really loses steam. The entire middle of t...more

My rating is in the middle only because, I really don't know whether to give it a high rating because I thought it was good in parts, or if I should give it a low rating because at times, I thought it was a bit over the top. I liked it, and yet, I didn't. I had to make sure I read 10 pages everyday to make sure that I finished it, only because it was long, and I wasn't sure if I liked it. But, most days I ended up reading more.

So this novel follows a man named Grant Borrows who goes through 'The...more

Wow, there seems to be no middle ground regarding this book from the reviews I've read. Either people love it or they hate it. I thought it was a very interesting concept, and found it kept me reading--I finished it in two days. I totally don't understand why it was marked as a christian book, I didn't find anything in the story to suggest that. Mislabeled, perhaps? As to the complaints about it feeling like an X-Men movie, I don't really get why that makes people so angry. Any time you're deali...more

Collin gets off the bus heading to work when he sees someone who looks exactly like him across the street. He looks at his reflection in a window and sees a completely different person looking back at him. Soon he meets a mysterious woman who seems to have the answers to this conondrum but refuses to provide him with any answers or advice except that people will be after him and he should run. Armed with a new identity, Collin (now Grant) must figure out what has happened, discover his new desti...more

Relentless by Robin Parrish had me in it's grip from the beginning. I gave it 4 stars.

I read this book as a part of the challenge. I was hoping I'd like this. I'd say this for sure, the book has seen a lot of action especially when this man saw himself walking then he looked in the mirror and go, "whoa! That's not me! Who is this??? Why am I in this body?" and he'll learn about the Shift which he wasn't the only one who undergoes it. But he was special - THE BRINGER. Sounds a little omen, uh? Probably because it is but now he's responsible for the Loci (the group who nicknamed th...more

Great concept but the fast start eventually fizzled into a mish mash of movie/tv rip-offs.

Relentless begins with a bang. The book opens with Collin looking at his doppelganger then discovering that he is now inhabiting a different body, a different identity (Grant Borrows), and is imbued with strength, reflexes, and knowledge he'd never had before. The Shift as occurred. Questions pile upon questions at a frenetic pace and we’re carried along as Collin/Grant tries to discover what happened to hi...more

I ended up enjoying this book more than I thought I would, mainly because it turned out to be a more complex plot than I expected. The storyline was quite original, although it seemed like there were several similarities to the X-Men comics in some ways.

The story follows Grant Borrows, a man who suddenly finds himself in another man's body out of nowhere and discovers that he has a new set of abilities to accompany his new body. He spends the whole book trying to figure out what has happened, ho...more

Relentless was a good opening book for a trilogy. There are several characters to follow and right when I was REALLY beginning to wonder "hey, what's so-and-so doing?" the author brought me right back to that story line. There are enough characters to be interesting, but not enough to really get lost.

You start out following Collin, a guy who is suddenly not so sure of who he is anymore. His quiet, quite dull life, is suddenly ripped apart by a madman trying to kill him for the ring on his finger...more

My second foray into the Kindle freebies, this time I was actually able to finish it! This books feels like how my first novel would probably read - straightforward plot, stilted dialogue, written without much tone or flourish. The plot keeps you going somehow, but then again I'm a sucker for the prophesied hero discovering his powers and destiny type plot. Main character is in trouble, gets hurt, does something supernatural, recovers for several days and is emotionally distraught, decides to ta...more

Relentless is one of those books that I just wanted to keep reading. I'd have kept going all day if I didn't have a job to go to. The book is fast-paced. It wastes no time getting the story started on the first page, and never really lets up.

On his way to work on day, Colin Boyd sees another man who looks exactly like him. He quickly realises that he is in another man's body. This hook sets Colin (now named apparently called Grant Borrows) on the path of discovery as he tries to solve the myster...more

Robin hit a home run on this book. Other reviews have not been so positive and I think that this is a very different kind of book. If you like other realm type books this will be a good one for you. The basic story is about a man, Collin who gets ready for work one morning and on his way, something happens. He sees a man who looks identical to him on the street. But wait, is it really just someone who looks like him or is it really him? The guy seems to "be" him. He is headed toward his workplac...more

Just finished this book and I have to say that it's like an action-packed movie. It starts with a chase and the main character almost getting killed by a very relentless hit man. I almost didn't keep reading it because the action had my mind spinning. What can I say, I'm a chick and can only take so much guy-material! Anyway, when it did slow down is when you found out what was going on...at least as much as you should know. The story unfolds in a nicely paced way that keeps you reading and want...more

I downloaded Relentless by Robin Parrish for free on my Kindle in early March. It is the first book in The Dominion Trilogy, and is listed by Amazon in two separate categories: Mystery and Religious Fiction.

I picked up the book because I like to read Mysteries. Unfortunately there was little mystery to be had...It took me a month to actually finish reading it.

The plot was very slow and cumbersome, and I didn't particularly like the main character. The momentum didn't pick up until I had read ro...more

"Relentless" was a thrilling page-turner for me from beginning to end. It was one of the few books I've read that I could not put down...the author creates a thirst for his readers and does not disappoint. If I were to compare it to a movie, (since I'm not a writer...I tend to resort to the use of analogies like food and movies - lol), both The Bourne Identity and X-Men come to mind. I thoroughly enjoyed the author's fast-paced writing style, multiple story-lines woven throughout, and the fantas...more

I got to "18%" on this on Kindle and I could not get going. I felt like my tires were stuck in the mud and I was just spinning out, trying to get a good foothold so I could hang on and go for the ride this book promised. No such luck. I started with questions, and the questions kept mounting and no answers were being shared. If the author wanted to keep me in the dark, he/she did so well. Could not connect with any characters, especially the lonely pathetic protagonist who wakes up one day with...more

My 3 star rating is probably because this book is part of a trilogy--I felt like it took way too long before I could decide if the story was worth reading. It started with a gripping premise and a very fast pace, but some of the character motivation was difficult to follow and too much was left to tie up for the end although it was not surprising. Not sure if it was worth the read, but I was (and am still) interested enough in the overall story that I wanted to know what happened at the end, eve...more

I'm very on the fence about this one. in parts it was really very good, and in others it was a little bit awful. the reason for two stars instead of three is because it also drags on in places and moves very slowly which was rather annoying after such a fast paced beginning. but the concept itself isn't bad and I'll read the rest of the series to see what happens and if improvements in the writing style occur. I can't help but feel however that this book is written very much like a movie and i s...more

A totally fascinating premise--as they say "the hook" in the biz, and I finally got the chance to finish the book in one fell swoop. Some of the effects however I was able to link to the X-men character Dark Phoenix, but it was so effectively written there were parts where I actually teared up. About halfway through the sitting however I could tell they were setting it up for a trilogy, and so far the series could stop at the end of book one for all I care. I think I might cheat and read some re...more

Relentless gripped me from the very first page and chapter. It begins with Collin Boyd who sees himself and quickly realizes that he has been shifted into the body of a man named Grant Borrows. A ring that cannot be removed is on his fingers and very soon he finds that he can do things that humans shouldn't be able to do. There is a prophecy about "the Bringer" and Grant finds out that he is the bringer, there are twists and turns that I would not have expected. I loved every word and every minu...more

I've been trying to formulate some coherent opinions about this book, and I'm having a difficult time.

I'm a big fan of the TV series Fringe and I was devastated when Flash Forward was canceled, so I expected to like this book more than I did. I also wanted to like it more than I did, but I finished it still undecided whether I'd get and read #2 but leaning towards not. It just wasn't that interesting or compelling. As evidence of this, it took me over a month to finish this book and only then be...more

This is an OK read, better than many of its type if a little uneven, with a compelling ending and well named - the pace truly is relentless. Not even sure what genre this is. I had it as fantasy, but the opening chapters seem more like technological thriller, but after a while elements of fantasy start creeping back in. It's the first part of a trilogy, after all, and there's a prophecy... Anyway. Good, fast start, with an intriguing premise - man suddenly realises he's in a different body, and...more

I didn't like or care about the characters, was constantly annoyed by the plot, bored with the action and wondering when it would end. There is so much about this story that simply doesn't make sense. For example, a supernatural, highly trained swordsman is maimed by a crippled, not-supernatural man. Powers seem to come and go, characters make odd choices that are inconsistent and the whole thing is terribly contrived. No possibility that I would recommend this book or consider reading the next...more

'Relentless' would make an excellent film; it is so visual. However, I cannot recommend it as a book to anyone, especially proofreaders. The spelling errors, layout issues, and downright vocabulary problems ('metal grinded against metal'. GRINDED? Oh, puh-lease!) - these all contribute to an agonising read.

This book reads like something written as a NaNo novel (challenge of writing a 50,000-word novel in one month). On the challenge you are warned that some of your pages will be absolute rubbis...more

Kindle freebie. It drives me nuts when a bunch of characters know something - more detail, the larger picture, the history of something, whatever - and refuse to share it with the protagonist for no good reason. And it's not self-preservation or that they have some alternative purpose, it's that they've decided the protagonist just isn't "ready". I wouldn't purchase the follow ups to this book, but if they're Kindle freebies, I might download them.

“We all have that moment in life when something terrible happens for the first time. Something so unexpected, so awful, that it takes the magic out of the world. Life becomes harder, colder. And everything we do in our lives, from that day on, is our way of coping with that one moment. We stop living and we merely exist. We either choose to move on from that, or we let it consume us.” 9 people liked it
