There are really two separate stories going on here: The first and baddest of the fallen angels and now ruler of Hell itself, the Devil aka Sammy Devine, is feeling lonely since the woman he loves has found her HEA with someone else, when his brother angel Gabriel sets a challenge for Sammy - an opportunity for earning a chance for redemption by playing guardian to a human woman. Faith has to get the "Ring of Chaos" from rock legend Finn and return it to the devil in order to save her son. However, Finn has made a deal with the devil himself many years ago. The ring gives him fame and fortune and in exchange for the ring the Devil will take Finn's soul once he loses possession of it.

I was mesmerized by how the author built the world surrounding Sammy aka the Devil. The description of his fall, his current existence, his loneliness and his interactions with others including the archangel Gabriel. Even though Sammy and Gabriel serve two different realms, Gabriel still sees Sammy as his brother and sees the good in him and the potential for him to redeem himself. Gabriel offers the chance of redemption to Sammy by being Faith's guardian angel and helping her. As Gabriel stated it is his chance to show to God that there is still something good inside him. I found this to be a very touching moment when Sammy remembers what lead to his fall and his fear and crying before God asking for mercy and forgiveness. It was a very moving moment to hear Sammy's anguish at wishing he was told what he was doing with Eve was wrong, why didn't God stop him (the author presents that Sammy as an archangel was tempted by Eve to have sex with her in the Garden of Eden and that Eve was the temptress).

Finn on the other hand feels jaded with life and when he comes across Faith and spends a fantastic night with her he thinks he has finally found someone who is different and special. The hot passion that they share is beautiful and I wish there were more sexy scenes. However Faith steals the ring from him and tries to avoid him to no avail. When Finn finds out she stole the ring Faith finally comes clean and tells him why she had to steal the ring. Finn is torn between his love for Faith, her son's life and his own life and the moments leading to the end are heartbreaking. The scenes of love and sacrifice are heart warming and surprises everyone including the devil.

I have to say I LOVE SAMMY! He is one sexy beast that I had an emotional connection with him and wish for his HEA if possible in future books. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I have loved Sammy from the first time we met him in Nicki Styx series so I was super-excited that he got his own series!! This book did not disappoint. And it is worth buying just for the gorgeous cover :-)

In order to save her son´s life, Faith is forced to make a deal with the Devil. Yes, the Devil we know :-) Sammy is still the bad boy as usual (which is why we love him) and of course he has his own agenda in mind and so the play begins :-)

Wow wee! I had no idea what to expect from this book. This is a new author for me and I promise you I will be adding her name to my list of "must have authors"!
This book had it all for me...hot hero...hot sex....great characters...great love story (it happened a little fast but that's okay it's "romancelandia") .... and keep some kleenex nearby for the ending.
Really a terrific story and I'm glad I took the chance!

Devil Without A Cause is my first book by Terri Garey. I enjoyed this book even when I felt like I was missing clarifying back story. The Devil has been a recurring character in Garey’s previous Nikki Styx series and apparently he was such a hit that after Nikki’s series ended, the Devil carried on. There are enough references to the previous books and the Devil’s relationship with that heroine that sometimes I was frustrated. I have never read any previous books by this author even though the character of the Devil is in a previous series. This book branches off the Nicki Styx series that the author created, focusing on the Devil's story of betrayal and love. That being said though, I didn't have a hard time figuring out what was going on since this book was set as a separate story series. The Devil is portrayed a little differently than usual in this series. Yes he is still the fallen angel Lucifer, but he goes by different names and he is sexy as hell. He dresses with the current fads, and he even likes mingling with humans as well. While I enjoyed his conversations with Gabriel the Angel, and his devious nature of lies and seduction, the character of Finn was my favorite by far! A rock star who has sex appeal and a heart of gold is perfect for the single mother Faith. They had chemistry and he stole the focus of the book! While Faith seemed a little wishy-washy to me, I still liked her enough to keep reading the story! When she makes a deal with the Devil to save her son from cancer, she has no idea the task he set her on will lead to love and completion. When Finn figures out what is going on, he has secrets of his own that he needs to tell Faith so they can defeat the Devil at his own game.

What I enjoyed the most is how the author made you feel sympathy and empathy for the Devil even though he is suppose to be a bad guy. He actually seemed to be in the gray area instead of always black and white. Pretty bad when you fall for the bad guy in the story and start cheering for him! I wanted the Devil to have a happy ending as well.

All in all, a great new series by a great author. The story building was great and paced nicely. The romance was nice, even though it felt a little rushed at times. The characters held my interest for the entire story. I also found an author who I am thrilled to add to my auto buy list! I have even ordered the Nicki Styx series now so I can get more of the back history on the Devil!(less)

Secondary characters added enough depth to the plot to keep you interested and turning the pages. While the story doesn’t end for all the characters quite the way a reader might expect, it’ll certainly leave you with a pleased smile at the end. Faith’s plight with her son will likely bring some tears to your eyes, but never fear; Ms. Garey doesn’t disappoint with her witty and devilishly delightful tale. On a personal note, I’d love to read more about Sammy the Deceiver and sure hope there’s a sequel in the works.

For a funny, heart-wrenching, memorable story that will make you laugh, make you cry, and leave you with warm fuzzies tingling your insides, grab a copy of Devil Without a Cause by Terri Garey, it’s definitely a worth-while read.

He is not portrayed as a nice guy in any way. He is the Devil, he does cruel things, he lies, he is not sugar coated in any way, but you still find yourself fascinated by him, at least I did. I have not read Garey’s Nicki Styx series. There are a few references to Nicki in Devil Without a Cause, but not enough that you have to read one series to have an understanding of the other. Although I must admit, I am curious about Sam and Nicki’s relationship enough that may have to read that series now.

The angel Gabriel approaches fallen angel Sam about offering guidance to a lost soul. Sam sees this as an opportunity to manipulate a situation to see to his own “wants.” Sam wants Faith to seduce her way into Finn’s life to steal a ring. Sam led Finn to the ring through a deal with the him 20 years prior. Sam loves his careful wording to go along with all of these deals he is making with Faith and Finn. He is very specific and extremely elusive at the same time. While the Devil is playing games with Faith and Finn, they are falling in love with each other. Faith and Finn have a sweet and very brief courtship. The couple of sex scenes are mild in their explicitness, yet very touching and romantic. They have both made various deals with the Devil and their one bad decision seems to be getting both of them in deeper debt to Sam.

While Faith and Finn are dealing with all of the issues of the ring and their deals with the Devil Sam is dealing with a stressful situation at home. It seems that some of his minions are beginning to question his evilness and commitment to them. Sam’s minions are thinking of an upheaval of power. This is a highly entertaining book that keeps the pages turning. What’s not to like you got a rock star, sexy Devil, kidnapping, blackmail, pissed off woman with a blade, a bad guy you have to like, and sweet romance. I liked this book and LOVED Sam, definitely looking forward to the next in the series. Can't wait to see what type of mischief Sam will stir up next.

I enjoyed the characters in this story. Faith is a true mother. One who will do anything for her son. Finn has already done anything for his muse to express itself through music. And then there is a horny (not so little) devil at the center of it all. Hard choices, interesting tasks with rules, and things that they find out not only about each other, but about themselves. What a fabulously written premise- I never thought that I could feel sympathy for the Devil, but I really liked and felt for the Devil in this book. I need to read the Nicki Styx series so that I can get more of his backstory, but I have a feeling that his story hasn't ended yet.

Wow, this book was not what I was expecting! I was expecting something light and fluffy, but what I got what a truly dark and heart breaking read. Faith is in untenable situation. Does she want to make a devils bargain? Hell no! She knows that the Devil never makes things simple, that he will look for ways to renege on their deal, but what choice does she have? Her baby boy is dying and his death will not be quick and easy. She makes a choice to “whore” herself out to save her child, and she hates herself every second of it. She can’t help but feel attracted to the delectable Rock star, but she can’t let herself feel pity for the situation in which she puts him. Finn is used to the life he lives. He has women throwing himself at him at every corner, more money than he can spend and a legion of adoring fans. He knows that it will one day end, knows that the Devil will not allow him to live to a ripe old age, but he refuses to allow that day to come anytime soon. When Faith steals his ring he does everything, and I mean everything, that he can to convince her to give it him back (it has to be given to him, not stolen). He knows that to relinquish the ring means certain death. He also knows that whatever the Devil say is twisted to suit his means; can he convince Faith not to trust her soul to such a manipulative creature. It comes down to a choice for the pair of them; Nathan’s life or Finn’s. When they start to feel something towards each other it makes it twice as hard; how can they cause each other pain if they claim to care? I felt so sorry for the pair of them; I completely understood both of their points of view. My opinion was swayed more in the favour of Faith winning the ring (especially when Nathan basically tells her he accepts he will die and I cried!), but I knew that neither outcome would make me happy because I loved them together. It was not a good situation!!

In part’s, this book was a little slow because it was so emotionally heavy, but the overall story, and the fabulously written characters, kept me reading and I finished it one sitting. I loved the tragic love story between Faith and Finn, and I couldn’t see an outcome that would satisfy me. Sammy B Devine (AKA the devil) was my favourite character. He was a grumpy old Angel, but underneath all the hurt and anger, is a lonely man that has been cast out by his family and rejected by the only woman he has ever loved. A tearjerker, with the occasional laugh, this is a twisty, emotional tale that kept me on the edge of my seat. I will be reading more of this series!(less)

This paranormal romance surprised me a few times, the main character/supporting character dynamic was tipped on it's ear. Sammy, Prince of Darkness, was pretty fascinating, and Finn and Faith had a hard time stealing my focus. Normally I'm not a fan of mixing too much religion with the paranormal (Nalini Singh's angels are just my speed), but Garey takes things into the realm of myth and magic without treading on too many dogmatic toes.

I’m still pretty iffy on what I think about DEVIL WITHOUT A CAUSE. Ignoring the parts I wasn’t too interested in, I’d have to say the story was a good one that could have been improved on.

I’ll start by saying I don’t have much background reading heaven verses hell book. The whole angel/demon things hasn’t gotten its hooks in me yet, so when I take out the parts where the pov is with the devil and the angel Gabriel, I was pretty hooked.

Faith agrees, but when Finn comes to stay at the hotel she works at and she meets him, she starts to get a change of heart. Little by little, she starts falling in love with Finn – whom we find out she’s been a fan of when she was younger. Eventually, she’s caught between the love for her child and the love she’s starting to feel for Finn, since Faith finds out that once she takes Finn’s ring and gives it to Sammy, Finn will die.

I’m not going to lie, the first thing that attracted me the most to this book was the cover! *fans self* Good Lord, it’s gorgeous! However, what kept me interested in this book was Terri Garey’s amazing writing style and attention to detail. Right off the bat, I was enthralled with Sammy’s (the Devil) storyline and how he develops in this book.

We start the story seeing Sammy vexed as a human he fell in love with on Earth (Nicki Styx) is now with someone else. Sammy – who is in Hell – tries to put this out of his mind and concentrates on Faith & Finn who are on Earth.

I will admit to being so anxious in places, I desperately wanted to skip ahead Finn & Faith’s story to see what was going on in Sammy’s world with his faithful servant, Nyx. Together, Sammy and Nyx start to search for a long lost demon son Sammy never knew existed and who is running around lost in Hell – a perfect distraction for Sammy and his troubled mind.

Thrown in the mix is also the Angel, Gabriel, who tells Sammy he can get back into God’s good graces if he helps out a soul. Of course, Sammy views ‘helping’ in a whole different light, LOL. But I believe that finding his son changes Sammy, and we get an unexpected surprise ending with Finn & Faith that I’m sure everyone will love!

The only things that ‘turned me off’ a tad in this book were all the satanic rituals and invocations used in the book, and being a mother, the storyline that Sammy threatened Faith with her son’s life also didn’t gather any points with me. However, with the word ‘Devil’ in the title, what would one expect? LOL

Sammy totally redeems himself in the end, and I can’t wait for Book 2, A Devil Named Desire – which comes out on January 31, 2012, to find out more about Sammy and his son, plus will Sammy get back in God’s good graces?
