I love art books in the coffee table style. BIG pictures, just enough text to feed the thoughts in your own head, and lost and lots of...BIG pictures. Color and B&W. Wyeth is a favorite of mine, as I love many Brandywine artists and other illustrators. This is a nifty collection of the paintings and illustrations of the great N.C. Wyeth. The master illustrator and father of Andrew Wyeth was a wizard with the brushes and pencils. The numerous plates include his commercial output for labels such as Cream of Wheat plus his illustrations for children's versions of TREASURE ISLAND and RIP VAN WINKLE.

I found this book at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. It is a wonderful comprehensive collection of NC Wyeth's painting, sketches and illustrations. As a boy, I loved the pictures that made classics like Treasure Island, Robin Hood and The Last of the Mohicans come to life. Later I discovered the beauty of his paintings at Brandywine and other museums.

This book has an awesome bibliography of N.C. Wyeth's works, the only reason I don't give it a five is a large number of illustrations are in black and white. Given when this was published, that's not shocking.
