Cecilia: A Story of Modern Rome is set Rome in 1900. It is a mysterious love story that has many elements that appear later in E. M. Forster's A Room with a View. It is a snapshot of that era's customs, and Rome's lifestyle.

I don't like love triangles, and the plot of this book, with its dream connections and Vestal Virgins, is just weird, but the Edwardian mind is fascinating. It's hard to believe that the society depicted in this book is just a hundred years away from us. I can't say that "Cecilia" is worth reading, but I think F. Marion Crawford is worth giving another chance.
