Anyone who enjoys his comedy
Michael never ceases to amaze me on stage and in his book he is exactly the same! His funny attitude and character really shines through even in the difficult parts of his life. I would give this book to anyone I knew because McIntyre just makes you smile with every page turn!
Overall this was a nice easy read. I was actually quite surprised to find out about McIntyre's family life, it would have made a great sitcom I'm sure!I assumed from his squeaky clean demeanour that he came from a perfect family life so I was taken aback by how eccentric and dysfunctional his family are. The book managed to be both funny and heart-warming in parts and if you are a fan of his then you are sure to enjoy reading "Life and Laughing". I loved the way he spoke about his parents, his f...more
I'm a huge fan of Michael McIntyre as a comedian; I adore his stand-up and it always seems to make me laugh no matter how many times I've seen it! But, going into reading this, I was trying to balance that against my innate dislike of autobiographies. That's unfair, actually. Make that my innate dislike of modern autobiographies by celebrities. I've never read one and would still maintain that it isn't a habit. I wanted something funny to read; I know I find Michael McIntyre funny SO I spotted t...more
Michael McIntyre's life and times is all told in this very adorable book. Yes that is what I would choose to describe it as. All in all, he is a sweetheart. Telling his tales from his parents messy relationship and divorce, including funny details of how the decor in his house changed from 80's to 90's, their new relationships, his siblings and family life.

AUDIO BOOK REVIEW
Michael McIntyre is a British comedian that I love watching on TV and he has been actively performing stand-up since approximately 2006. This is his story.
This is the first AudioBook that I have ever fully listened to and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The book is read by Michael himself and I'm glad he did it, it helped me understand the story better and definitely enhance the experience for me. Brilliant read. It had me hooked straight away with a really coherent, fascinating account of his life which was very funny in parts.
I found myself laughing out loud several times, but it wasn't just a book full of jokes, there was a real depth to McIntyre's perspective and the way he expresses himself. Plus there are some pretty dark times he has been through but still managed to come out on top, despite numerous and constant rejections.

This is McIntyre’s book, chronicling his life and career so far. From growing up in Hampstead, his time in university to how his career started.,meeting his wife Kitty and the birth of his first child.
This book was ok, just ok. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments which was the saving grace in this book. His story isn’t wildly exciting, especially his career, he charts his rise from working the Jongleur clubs to finally making it at the Royal Variety Perfomance. The same story could be sa...more

basically, i picked this book up in a service station to entertain me on the 2 hours journey i had left between scotch corner and grimsby. it served it's purpose. it's a really insightful book, despite at the beginning worrying me that it probably wouldn't be that informative. it wasn't as funny as i'd expected, but obviously his life isn't ACTUALLY a complete joke all the time, and at points it almost brought me to tears. i really enjoyed it though, and advise it to anyone that's a fan, and per...more
I really enjoyed this. It is a gripping story of the struggle to success, which I found difficult to put down.
The tone suits Michael's voice down TO A TEE! Stupidly, some of the sentences had me bobbing my head along in a McIntyre-esque style, as if delivering a punch line.
He also writes characters with bags energy and life, which is something I really appreciate in a biography. It is not self-centric at all. His grandmother is one of the best characters I have read in a biography … ever. She...more

I own Live & Laughing and Hello Wembley. I watch his Comedy Roadshow. I fucking love his observational humor and his campness. His is the type of stand-up I can watch over and over again.
And my music and stand-up comedy tastes are not up to debate. For me it's Bill Hicks, Eddie Izzard and Dylan Moran all the way, w some Dara O'Briain, Michael McIntyre and Lee Evans thrown into the mix. Theirs are the stand-up specials I can watch (and I do) 3-4 times a day.

I like Michael McIntyre. I think he's one of the best comics around at the moment. And this book is extremely well written and put together. The beginning and end link very well. And it's actually quite fascinating to see how quickly he became so incredibly successful. A very interesting book about the life of a comic and how much they can struggle.
However, I was a bit disappointed. I will admit there are some great laughs in this book.

The funniest audiobook I've ever listened to. I've gone through it once and... then AGAIN and I can definitely say it'll be one of my special books forever, that I will run around constantly recommending to everyone. (I'm imagining myself reading this sentence breathlessly using Michael McIntyre's intonation and (sometimes) high squeaky voice. It's amaaazing! So much fun.)

I really enjoy Michaels stand-up work, and this book just topped it off!
You get the insight of Michaels life and also an insight in Michaels off stage activity.
Literally the moment i opened the book to the end of the back cover this book had me in tears one line of this book that i found hilarious was: Page 4-5 "I smell poo said the teacher, please tell me if you think it was you. you're not in trouble...no body responded a blonde girl with a bongo looked sheepish..." This is the first autobiography I have ever read and I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it. I thought it would only focus on his comedy career, throughout, but it explored his childhood and experiences and showed how they shaped his life. It gave me a real insight in how hard it is to become a stand up comedian and it shows that Michael McIntyre went through enormous struggles but through self-will and determination he achieved his dreams. There were a few laughs in there and it was the right...more
AMAZING. Loved every minute of this book. It's absolutely hilarious, and I would not recommend listening to the audiobook in public. There some brilliantly funny moments, but also some serious moments. It's so inspiring to hear the story of Michael's rise to fame and all that he overcame to get to where he is today. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is a fan of his comedy. You feel like you know him better as a person after you read it. I don't usually enjoy celebrity autobiographies b...more
I am giving this 5 stars, I think the way I read it, or listened to it made it that extra bit special. Michael McIntyre is a brilliant narrator, he really bought his story to life and it felt like he was telling me rather than reading the story to me.

Wow, this was a really inspiring read! Everything you'd want from an autobiography. Brutally honest, uncluttered and funny. By the end of the book you feel like a close friend (or at least you wish that you were one!)
His story is incredible too - a testimony to the fact that hard work and risk-taking eventually pay off (along the lines of Gladwell's 10,000 hour theory). The anecdotes and humor alone would be book-worthy - combine it with a rags-to-riches narrative (well not exactly but along th...more

I really liked this autobiography - I could hear his voice talking as I read (posh!). He comes across as genuine and doesn't hide his percieved flaws.
I liked reading about his childhood - would have liked to hear a bit more though! He talks a lot about his journey to being 'the hottest' new comedien. He has not said too much about himself since he has risen to fame but explains that we know what he's been up to. Fair enough.

I loved this! Michael McIntyre has always been one of my favourite comedians on stage and it was so great to get an insight into his life; past and present. He shares some really personal aspects of his life in this book such as his dads death and meeting his wife but adds that hint of humour to lighten any anecdote. Plus his humour isn't as rude as many others which is refreshing.

I had seen this book in Sainsbury's and whilst waiting I read the prologue and found it so hilarious I couldn't wait to open it up on Christmas day!
This for me, is one of those books I got addicted to. I couldn't wait to get into bed and divulge into it again, finding myself up and awake a bit too late with focused vision on McIntyre's brilliant language.

I wasn't a fan of Michael McIntyre when I first heard him (on Mock the Week) but as I watched some of his own shows like 'Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow', I began to see why everyone found him hilarious. I thought it would be a good thing to read his autobiography for curiosity more than anything. I am so glad I bought this book as it is such an easy read and I have been reading it for the past 2 months or so as just small bits at a time for some light reading. I got this for Christmas 2010 and was finished before the New Year. I found this book a little too honest, the whole stalkery stuff with his (now) wife made me a little uncomfortable. The rest of the book following him from childhood to trawling the comedy clubs to becoming famous was actually good. It was filled with his usual observational humour and parts of it had me laughing out loud. If you are a fan of Michael then I would recommend a read but if you are undecided then I feel that reading...more

Michael McIntyres "Memoirs" is without a doubt a must read and I challenge anyone who knows his comedy style to not read the book in the same way, its sad, endearing, funny, enlightening all rolled into one amazing read.
Having seen him many times on television you think you get to know the person which I know is daft as you don't really, however, through this book he comes across as he does on stage which is a gentleman, a hard worker and an extremely funny man to name but a few of his qualities...more

Every line is a ‘laugh-out-loud’ line! Such a brilliant man, with such a wonderful sense of humour, and such a self depreciating style of expressing himself! He writes about his childhood, his smart sister, his parents, the love if his life – his wife. He writes about his failed efforts trying to attract the opposite sex, all through his teenage years. All those girls must be cursing their lack of foresight now

This is my first ever autobiography, and I was bought it as a present by my fiancee for Christmas. I think Michael is one of the funniest men around at the moment, and tickets to see him were also under my tree! The book doesn't dissapoint. I was laughing from the off and ca imagine him saying all of this on stage. From his birth to the 'waxing lyrical on, waxing lyrical off' to his pursuit of the woman he was to marry, I was laughing or smiling all the way. Almost finished and I have to say, I'...more
I'm a huge fan of Michael McIntyre. He's an awesome comedian--never ceases to make me laugh and now apparently a decent writer. This is the first time I've purchased a celebrity autobiography, as I've often approached them with a personal stigma. I have always thought they were all just trash that cashed in on their fame but this one definitely proved me wrong. The book may not be the most well-written (and I don't believe it strives to present itself as such) but it is entertaining, funny and a...more
I had been really looking forward to reading this book and I wasn't disappointed. It was interesting reading about Michael's rise to fame, the struggle he had in the early days, his upbringing and also about the death of his father. The book is well written and there are many laugh out loud moments and in parts touching and poignant. The only criticism I have is that towards the end of the book it lacked the humour that had kept me turning the pages at the beginning of the book but all the same...more
If you like Michael McIntyre, you'll like this book. I found that for the first 5 or 6 chapters he was trying to hard to make jokes of every part of his early life, but after that it settled down. His early years were quite a story though with divorces, step brothers and having Kenny Everett as a surrogate father.
It also shows he put in the hard graft of many years on the comedy circuit before becoming famous. It want given to him on a plate.
I'd recommend this book if you want to see how a fun...more

I love Michael McIntyre! So when I discovered this book I couldn't wait to read it. Whilst reading it I could remember some of his sketches.
I love McIntyres storytelling that I found it difficult to put down.
It was really intriguing to find out how he met his wife Kitty and, at the same time, his struggle to become one of Britian's best loved comedians!

This is the first autobiography that I have actually enjoyed start to finish. It was hilarious right the way through, it followed a path so that you didn’t get bored, and he also managed to weave in heart touching moments that yes, I almost cried at. I found out so many things that I previously didn’t know about him, and I respect him so much for managing to make it after seven years, and how hard his life was before he did. Michael is a truly amazing guy, and if you like him I would definitely...more
