Magic Tree House, The Knight at Dawn is a fantasy book. It is targeted for primary as well as intermediate aged children. The book is book #2 of the Magic Tree House series written by Mary Pope Osborne. The whole idea of the Magic Tree House books are that two siblings, Jack and Annie, had a tree house that made them travel in time. This particular part of the series is about a time where they picked up a book about a knight and wished they were in that time period. Next thing they knew they loo...more

Okay so I probably would not read this book in English; however, I read this book in spanish. In Spanish it is called, El Caballero del Alba. It is a great book for first or 2nd year Spanish readers. Reading this book in Spanish is a great way to keep up on your Spanish.

I thought that this book was very fun and exciting as well as adventures book for me. That I really enjoyed to read and have connections to. I finished this book in not even a day for how much I enjoyed to read it. I read this book with great fluency and the book also influenced me to read more of that serious in books.

I would rate this book in between 4 and 5 because there were some parts n the book that I wanted to skip and not read but I read it anyway. There were also more parts ...more

Jack and Annie are transported to the Middle Ages, where they follow a mysterious black knight into a castle. There they run afoul of some palace servers, who then call some guards to chase them. Annie uses some modern technology to through the guards off their tail, albeit briefly. The siblings race through the various rooms of the castle, but can they escape their pursuers?

This is a short novel for the primary set that is already becoming a little formulaic in its second book. Bu...more

The Knight at Dawn is the second book in the Magic Tree House series. This is a cute story about Jack, and his sister Annie traveling through time to a time with knights and castles. I read this to my six year old and he absolutely loved it. My three year old also sat through the story with us and she loved it as well, though she did have a few questions. She had a harder time understanding the story. All in all we love the Magic Tree House stories and plan to continue on with the series. I defi...more

This is book 2 in the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne.

In this MTH adventure Jack and his little sister Annie have traveled back in time to the Middle Ages. Following along with the book, Jack and Annie see a knight in full armor riding his horse up to and inside of a huge Castle.
Annie takes off and follows the knight leaving Jack to catchup. They see a feast taking part in the Great Hall and are spotted. They run and hide in the armory, but when they are found the...more

I love this series, I really don't know why, but I do. I may also have a soft spot for books set in Pennsylvania, even though most of the time Jack and Annie are off on some adventure, saving things. I guess I try to see this series as a child would and I get enthralled, it's short enough to keep a younger ones attention, but longer for some older kids as well.

This story was about Jack and Annie visiting a castle and meeting a knight. The knight helps Jack and Annie, and even though t...more

My students love reading these books, so ii had to see what they were all about. After reading this book it makes me want to go back and read the first one so that I can have a little bit more of background knowledge on the characters and the first adventure. Other then that I thought that the book was interesting and the imagination that children can have is endless and this shows that.
Summary: Jack and his sister Annie start out by going over the dinosaurs from their first adventure. ...more

The book that i read is called The Night At Dawn (Magic Tree House) and it was written by Mary Pope Osborn. The book is about two kids Jack and Anny that go to a magic tree house that takes them where ever they want to go. In this book they went back in time to Camelot where they sneak into a castle and they get captured by the nights and try and figure out how to escape and get back home. I would recommend this book for people that like adventure books.

One thing that i really like a...more

This was a very enjoyable book to read to my son, and he enjoyed listening to it. He especially enjoyed when the children escaped from the dungeon. Also, we both thought Annie was very smart using the flashlight to scare the knights and make them listen to her. I found this story to keep my son's attention a bit more than some of the other Magic Tree House stories we have read before. Of course, it could be that he is getting use to hearing chapter books more than picture books these days.

The Knight at Dawn is the story of two children, eight and seven, who climb up into the Magic Treehouse, only to be whisked back to the land of medieval knights! Jack and Annie, because they are so different, quickly make enemies with several people. They have to make their way back to their own timeline. This was a quick story and a fun read. I would highly recommend this story to any student who loves action or medieval knights, which would probably qualify most boys.

I was in love with castles at the age when this book was first read to me.

The adventures of going to a castle and interacting with real people who really lived long ago is a great idea and fun way to learn, I think that is how I learned so much and got very excited about magic and adventure when learning was involved.

I always loved adventure when learning wasn't involved but I took whatever was offered and the books as exciting and had humor and scary twists.

My generic review for the Magic Tree House books -

We've loved them all. They are fun, easy to read and contain quite a bit of historical information. We use them as read-alouds, but most elementary/middle school kids could read them on their own.

It does have a touch of 'girl power' at the expense of making the brother seem a little dumb. That kinda bugs. But it's not obvious and my boys haven't noticed. They think Jack is just as cool as his sister.

Another Magic Tree House book. We loved this one. Jack and Annie get the chance to go back in time to the Middle Ages. This time they must find their way across the moat and into the castle. After being caught they are saved by the knight in shining armor. He rescues them and takes them on his horse back to the Magic Tree House. My son loved the part when they were trying to swim to safety.

We will eagerly await the 3rd installment of Magic Tree House.

Santa brought this book to my 6 year old son for us to read together. This is the first Magic Tree House book I have read (we skipped the first but will go back and read it). I love being able to ask my son what he thought would happen to Jack and Annie on their adventure. Our favorite part was when Annie was quick thinking enough to use her flashlight as a magic wand. My son enjoyed it so much he wanted to get the 3rd as soon as we closed the cover on the second. I'm so excited to be reading th...more

The Knight at Dawn by Mary Pope Osborne is the second in the Magic Tree House series. Sean and Ian originally read the first eight together before I took over reading them with Sean. I am now reading the first eight in my spare time to "catch up."

In The Knight at Dawn Jack and Annie still don't know the true power of the tree house or who is behind it's magical powers. They have, however, figured out the basics to make it take them places and bring them home. This time they...more

My 4 yo and I are enjoying these short early chapter books. There is just enough adventure and danger to make a good story he can follow, as well as enough for me to enjoy. The bonus is these are "edutainment," so we both learn a few new facts. Books 1-4 are part of the same story arc. Also check out the non-fiction companion book Knights and Castles by the same author.

Recommends it for: young readers
Another Magic Tree House book in England during the Middle Ages. Annie and Jack must escape from the castle and are saved by a knight in shining armor. My daughter begged me to keep reading because each chapter ends in a cliff-hanger.

Emily (6 1/2 years old): I liked when they rode on the horse with the knight. Read this book because of the horse.

These books (The Magic Tree House Series) are ideal for about 5 - 8 year olds. They're full of illustrations and basic facts about the period to which Jack and Annie get transported.

Jack and Annie encounter disgruntled castle servants, explore armour and get rescued by a mysterious knight in this, the second in the series.

The first of the Magic Tree House series that my first grader read to me. He adores these books and set a goal to read the entire series over summer vacation. I love the weaving of simple historical fact and social studies into the adventure stories that are just exciting enough to keep him turning the pages well after bedtime!

apparently I have lived under a rock because I had never heard of this series til recently! we found this one at the library and it came with a cd in it, so we read some of it together (my 6 year old reading some to me; I reading some to him) and both kids have listened to the cd at bedtime numerous times.

A great 2nd book in this series. The adventure had me very interested and I'm about 30 years older than the intended audience. I love the way the learning is tucked into the excitement so the kids are picking up knowledge without even realizing it. Looking forward to more in this series.

Jack and Annie got up early the next day to visit the magic tree house. They find out that they should go to the time of knights. They go to the armory. Then they get caught. They make their escape. A knight helps them. He bring's them to the tree house. Then they go home.

10/16/09 Started it yesterday, finished today. This seems to be a decent series. I never realized that to write stories that 3rd graders adore, you just leave out a lot of detail. Tell they story like they would. Fun series though. Annabelle seemed to really enjoy it as well.

In this book, Jack and Annie go to a place with a knight and they go to the dinosaur place again. After I finished reading this book, I said to myself that I thought it was a little boring because it had the same dinosaur place. (Saskia)

Chris finished this book in May 2010. In this book, Annie found a book in the tree house about knights. She wished to meet a knight, which accidently transported Jack and Annie to a castle. Then they met a knight and found out that the knigh...more
