For students of the Altaic languages – the Turkic, Mongolic and Tungusic families – there are a wealth of early texts to explore once they've got some basic language skills under their belt. To complement purely linguistic resources like a reference grammar and dictionary, Igor de Rachewiltz and Volker Rybatzki have therefore produced this introduction to Altaic philology, which they define as “language in culture”.
