Really good historically accurate book about the Titanic and the time period. This is a good book to use in a classroom. Lots of historical vocab words and opportunities for discussion about what life was like for the various "types" of people mentioned in this book. Two more coming out!
I think that so far it has been a really interesting book that I have been reading a lot of. i like how it has four different main characters that start crossing together in the ninth or tenth chapter. Since Gordan Korman is such a funny writer it is very different to see him write very serious. This book has lots of suspence! :0)
After I finished the book I couldn't wai tto read the next book in this series!

This book was AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I loved it. During the whole book I just kept thinking to myself what's gonna happen next, and you'd just be on you're toes the whole time. So far I've only read the first one because my language arts teacher had let me borrow it. So I can't wait to borrow the 2nd and 3rd one. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to any age big or small, anybody or any person can read it!!!

The ship won't be going down by the end of the story, and you have to continue the series to find out the names of the four survivors who are introduced in the prologue. Still, there's a satisfying story within the familiar Titanic drama.
We meet the main characters - teens of varying social status each with his or her own "issues" - and see how they end up entwined as passengers on the ship. Since this is the bulk of the story, it feels light on plot, but IF one chooses to read volumes 2 and 3...more

I cannot wait to read the next book! Unsinkable is a historical fiction novel aimed for readers 12 and above. Korman introduces four very different characters aboard the Titanic and describes their lives. The book is written with great detail which I love! It easy to picture the images, people, and settings described. I have always been very interested in the Titanic story and this book really fed my reading appetite. After discussing lives and setting up a great plot, the warning of ice was de...more

The book I am doing a book review on is titanic. The theme of the book is Historical Fiction. The life lesson is that if you put your mind to it, you can do it.
The Characters in the book are Alfie and Daniel. The writer makes me beleive the characters are real because it uses lots of details to describe them. The characters in the book have to overcome obstacles. Alfie had to overcome the fact that he knew that Daniel was a stow away on the Titanic...more
Jake's Review: (Mom's note: Jake hates books on the Titanic, he only read this one because Gordon Korman wrote it.) I really did not like this book because there was way too much talking and it was kinda scary with all the gangster guys. There was way too much detail and I was bored a lot. I think he should have just made 1 story and not three, it would have been much more exciting. A couple of pictures would have been nice too. I think the language is too difficult for someone my age. Mom will l...more
The Titanic Trilogy consists of three books: (1) Book One: Unsinkable; (2) Book Two: Collision Course; and (3) Book Three: S.O.S. Written by one of my absolute favorite authors–Gordon Korman–these books weave a heart-stopping adventure based on the historical “unsinkable” ship, the Titanic in 1912. Book One details the final arrangements for the Titanic’s maiden voyage and its initial departure from England. Book Two covers the actual event of the Titanic’s fatal crash with the iceberg. Book Thr...more
I'm not sure if this should have been my first Korman book, but I am excited to get into my Titanic books for the year. I decided to go with some fiction before learning a bit more from the nonfiction. This trilogy seemed like a good choice, especially as I'm always on the look-out for books to suggest to boys. So far this trilogy is a winner with that.

In this 100th anniversary of Titanic's maiden voyage and fateful disaster, Gordon Korman sets sail to bring the tale to 9-12 year old readers with skill. As I began to read this book, I found myself wondering what about this event has made it stick with us over the years. There have been disasters, even aboard ships, before and since. Was it the glamour... the arrogance... or something else? How would things be different if Titanic would have made it to America on that first trip? Perhaps these...more
I was really excited about this series, as the Titanic has always held a certain fascination for me. The narrator was wonderful. I think I was a little disappointed in the few descriptions given of the ship itself. The novel is action based, as therefore revolves around the characters of Paddy (a stowaway from Ireland), Alphie (an underage steward), Sophie (the daughter of an American suffragette) and Juliana (the daughter of a duke in England). Most of the book is centered around Paddy and his...more
I personally would class this as "Upper-Middle-Grade." It has quite a bit of violence, cursing, and the like. That said, it is very, very well-executed. The book switches deftly between several different viewpoints, all told in unique voices, and I love that middle-graders are being exposed to that kind of writing. There's a lot of rich history here, and it's clear that Korman really did his research on all the factors that came together to make the unsinkable Titanic very sinkable indeed. As th...more
I wanted to like this, but it just didn't hold my attention. Four young people all have one thing in common: Titanic. This 1st book in the series introduces characters from all parts of the ship: 1st class, crew, even a stowaway. Each chapter lists the location, date and time so readers get a feel for how the fictional events are being placed in this historical context. Details about the ship and the passengers is well researched and the action is interesting though drawn out. I didn't care for...more
It's the eve of the maiden voyage of the Titanic, and the four passengers who are drawn together during the voyage couldn't be more different. Paddy is stowing away to escape ruthless killers, Alfie is an underage steward who just wants to travel with his father, Sophie is supposed to be keeping her suffragette mother out of trouble, and Julianna is trying to keep her adventurous father under control. Yet it's only the beginning for those on this doomed voyage. . .

this is another book I read that was made by Gordan Korman and is another great book. The setting of the story is on the titanic and is in the past and if you watched the titanic movie then I would not read this book because it is almost the same story. The main charactors in this book is the captain, Julie and Paddy. This book is not that exciting but it is very nerveracing because I keep thinking when something will go wrong. The next two books will be better. This story is very depre...more

Series fiction is raised a notch or two when Gordon Korman is the author. His writing is seamless, the characters well-developed, and the action believable. Intersecting stories form the plot of this first installment in TITANIC, from the daughter of a suffragette told to leave England, to the orphaned street urchin on the run from a violent crime boss, to the well-heeled Earl's daughter whose father is a drinker and a gambler. Book 1 ends just as Captain Smith receives the first ice warning and...more
I'm hooked on Gordon Korman's writing style. His flair for suspense paired with interesting YA characters make a highly successful combination. He specializes in writing stories in a series and connecting them with a cliffhanger that leads you reaching immediately for the next volume. His books are short and pulse with action. This makes them especially good suggestions for your reluctant readers."Unsinkable (Titanic #1)" is another winner by this author.

This is a great junior-level book that would appeal to girls and boys. It includes an engaging array of male and female characters and spins an exciting and believable tale. As part of a trilogy, we get a good hook and a lot of base plot line that sets the stage for the second and third books of the series. There is enough adventure and suspense to make you want to check out the second book in the series, Collision Course, which I am going to check out from my library tomorrow. I recommend you l...more
"They stood four deep on the afterdeck of the Carpathia, chilled to the bone, staring out at nothing.
Dark water, light swells- no evidence that barely seven hours before, the largest and most magnificent ship in the world had ever seen sailed here in all her glory. The truth was nearly impossible to believe: The RMS Titanic lay at the bottom of the sea, along with all the people who had sailed with her, save the 706 souls rescued and now aboard the Carpathia." This book was a really great read. I've read numerous children's books related to the Titanic, and I often find that those books are very kiddie---the kids running into random famous passengers on the ship, getting into some sort of trouble, lots of random facts about the Titanic are handed to them, and things turn out all right in the end. Though "Unsinkable" is kid friendly, I didn't really feel any of the above about it, which I quite liked. This seemed like a more mature pre-teens type of re...more
I learned many facts about the Titanic that I didn't know by reading this book (like that the boat was 1/6 mile long). The thing I didn't like about this book was that because it is a children's book (Jaxon is reading it for a school book report), it jumps around a little too much between characters to introduce them until they all start to meet up. It has been hard for Jaxon to keep tract of everyone. That being said, I enjoy the descriptions of the boat and the fun facts that are thrown into t...more
As the Titanic sets sail from Southampton, England on her maiden voyage in April 1912, among the many passengers and crew on board are four young teenagers with very different lives: Juliana, Sophie, Paddy, and Alfie. Juliana and Sophie are two girls who are both traveling in first class. Juliana is traveling with her father, a wealthy earl, on a business trip to New York. She is embarassed by her father, who is often drunk and foolish and wastes money gambling. Like Juliana, Sophie is also emba...more
I really liked this book and I recommened it for readers that like harder books. There are four main characters. There is Paddy the stowaway, and Alfie the junior steward who is too young to work aboard the ship, and Julie has a father who is all about cards and drinks when he's losing and he's losing a lot,and finally there is Sophie and her mother,Amelia Bronson, who fights for women's rights and was delivered to the ship by the police. All of these kids come together to find a mystery aboard t...more
Korman moves out of familiar contemporary genres to historical fiction with his take on one of the most famous stories of all. He introduces four young Titanic passengers - a stowaway, a young crew member, the American daughter of a women's rights activist, and an upper-class British girl - and brings them together as they set sail on the Titanic. Violence, boy-girl friendships, and a touch of romance make this questionable for a religious audience.
This is the first book in Gordon Korman's Titanic trilogy. We are introduced to the main characters in this book, which begins when the Titanic leaves Ireland for its official departure from Southampton. Full of colourful personalities (pickpockets, gangsters, suffragettes, the "swells" and the not-so-swell) and plots twists, it makes for a quick and enjoyable read. And, oh yes, is Jack the Ripper on the voyage? I don't know yet. On to Book Two.
Wow, this book was good. BUT more importantly,
Wow, this book was short. Gosh, I probably read this in all of....20 minutes? So I would advise everyone to have all three books on hand if you plan on reading them, not just have one.
P.S. Oh, and aren't the three covers cool?! I love how the ship is portrayed when all three books are next to each other on the top and on the bottom half are various pictures from that era. :) <3

I'm kinda getting tired of buying part of a book, to be honest. There wasn't much in it, I've already read part 2, and it's still not finished. I know it's a marketing ploy to sell more books, but Korman is one author who is getting on my nerves with it. As a librarian, I'd rather have one big book. When one of the volumes in a miniature trilogy is lost or way overdue, you might as well pitch the other two.

Korman wrote his first book, "This Can't be Happening at Macdonald Hall", when he was 12 years old, for a coach who suddenly found himself teaching 7th grade English. He later took that episode and created a book out of it, as well, in "The Sixth Grade Nickname Game", wherein Mr. Huge was based on that 7th grade teacher.
