Humanity is about to discover that meeting aliens face to face is very different-and a lot more dangerous-than sending and receiving messages. Good fences, said the poet, make good neighbors ... and interstellar distances made very good fences. Or ...more

I've been a fan of Lerner's writing for a while now, mostly in the form of short fiction. I enjoy his novels, which give him the scope to expand on characters and develop detailed stories. This is no exception to that. A very well crafted story with distinctive and real characters, and alien races that are distinctly alien.

I'm a physicist and computer scientist (among other things). After thirty years in industry, working at every level from individual technical contributor to senior vice president, I now write full-time. Mostly I write science fiction and techno-thrillers, now and again throwing in a straight science or technology article.
