Wow! Another greatly delivered book by Michael Grant. The 3rd installment of the GONE series is not to be missed.
Just when Sam and his town have conquered hunger, Orsay is claimed to be able to see past the FAYZ wall. Lies? Unsure. Drake is rumoured to be back from the dead. Lies? Unsure. Brittney seem to be a tough little cookie who is not yet ready to give up her fight with Death yet. She is aslo rumoured to have returned. As if lies and rumours were not enough, Zil is teaming up with Caine f...more

As I've just finished my re-read, I think I'll go through and tweak my original review a tad. Not because any of my opinions have changed necessarily, but I'd just like to expand on some of them. Note to Tia, Emily, and Kelsey-- my dear goodreads and real life friends, do not read on until you have read the book!

The title didn't do anything good to me but just made me paranoid while reading the book. It made me doubt everything in it. I want to believe the explanation to what happen to the adults but the title just makes me doubt it. I want to believe that Sam and Astrid has finally learned and finally embraced their dark side but the title makes me doubt it. I want to believe that the conflict between the freaks/moofs and normals is finally over but the title makes me doubt it. I want to believe that t...more

I am a little bit sad. For the past two weeks, my life (well, my book life) has been revolved around reading this series. I re-read the thrill rides which are Gone and Hunger-- then it was time for the main event, the newest installment in the Gone series. Lies.
I have to say it wasn't my favorite in the series. The flaws I had previously brushed aside in the first too became so blatant in this one that I couldn't ignore them. Don't get me wrong- it was still fantastic and I enjoyed it immensely,...more

This series is getting weaker. After really enjoying the first two in the series, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the third installment. But it just didn't add anything to the series, it was still well-written but I felt like the author was merely prolonging the story and not really moving the plot along. Maybe it's the old: longer series = more money, but that's just... crap.
Unexpected menace. We usually think of children as little folk that need our protection and yet, they are really uncivilized savages. They've not learned the inhibitions that adults have learned and are equally capable of the tenderest caring and the most horrific violence. It's this potential for violence, this feeling of menace that makes Michael Grant's stories from the FAYZ so compelling.

Lies was the most legit book I've read in a long time. It contains so much: action, science-fiction, dystopia, romance, a gay character, supernatural, oh my goodness. There is no one term to summarize Grant's latest addition to the Gone series. Okay, I lied. Maybe one word can describe this phenomenal book, which also aptly is the title - Lies.

This is the second book of the 'Gone' series in which everyone over the age of 15 is transported out of an area around a nuclear power plant which becomes known as the FAYZ.
When I read the first book, Gone, I was originally attracted by the black cover and the yellow edges (who says you can't judge a book by its cover?) and the concept of the disappearing adults. These "what if" situations have always interested me and this one was no exception.

Fans of the first two books -- and flawed characters who grab your heart
W.O.W.
Michael Grant has done it again -- boggling my mind and making me turn page after page just to see what happens to all these characters I have come to love. Between his books and the TV series LOST, my mind is never going to be the same. (I hope that’s a good thing.)
Now, on to my review (if I can call it that since I will likely be gushing too much about so-and-so or going into some speculative theory about something in the book). LIES is the third book in the GONE series, so -- if you‘re...more

I could write so much about this book. About how this series is still awesome, the characters still engaging, the bad guys still terrifying, and the story still completely enthralling and compulsively readable, but you guys already know all that. Just add an extra dose of backstabbing and treachery and you have LIES , the newest, and possibly most satisfying of the series to come along yet.

So I've been reading this book alongside the Walking Dead graphic novel series and I don't know what it is about post-apocalyptic lit but it takes me a couple volumes to appreciate and understand the severity with which these characters are in. I was in the middle of Lies when the brick hit me and the full weight of the FAYZ registered. Grant is phenomenal with building up suspense and making the situation seem hopeless and dire and then somehow he makes the world bearable for at least another b...more
well, the cover is a lot better than the book, which I was very very dissapointed in. I was hoping that something truly exciting would happen, but nooo. INstead Sam turns out to be just another jurk and astrid is almost stuck up, and the plot is kinda slow and plain. No exciting turns or anything. NOt to mention that they're SILL not over!
Theres billions of books that follow the same old story line. It may follow the story of magic, werewolves, or of course, vampires. Right when i was getting sick and tired of those predictable books, i found Gone. It was amazing, as was the second book in the series, Hunger. When i got to Lies, it was like a breath of fresh air. Guess what? There were no vampires whatsoever. I KNOW RIGHT? IMPOSSIBLE! Just kidding.

I always wonder how Grant is going to be able to step up his game in each one of these books and he consistently surprises me with how far he's willing to go, with how dark he's willing to let it get, and with how richly he writes these characters. Wanna know how good this particular book is? It made me like Sam. Genuinely, actually like the prototypical hero. Sure, last book we got into some neat psychological areas with Sam, but this book? Where Sam has to deal with his memories of Drake and f...more
I just finished Lies - luckily I didn't have any homework tonight or I wouldn't have been able to concentrate on it at all. Once you reach the last 100 or so pages of this book, it gets hard to put down.

"Lies" is the third book in the Gone series by Michael Grant. In this story Astrid is leading a new Council, trying to make rules and laws in the FAYZ that will bring justice and order. But she's thwarted by her own inner demons, by Zil and his Human Crew, Caine and his starving followers and especially by Sam who is finding it difficult to let go of his authority. As the plot thickens the demonic Drake and angelic Britanny are resurrected and controlled by the gaiaphage to rein havoc and death...more
It's been a long time since I dived into the world of the FAYZ, and it's amazing how easily I slipped back into it. Some of the plotpoints were reiterated so I didn't have to remember every thing that happened before. The style of counting down to a specific event was still there, and it was nice to see some of the characters struggling against each other and questioning morality in their survivalist world.

Would you like to read a book with never stopping action, as a well as a well written and thought out story? One that keeps you turning the pages or "on the edge of your seat" so to speak? There just one major catch in the "Gone" series. Instead of adult making the decisions and dealing with the problems, these are teenagers having to grow up way to fast and do thinks a normal teenager should never even have to think about doing. This is the third book in the series. The teens of Perdido beach a...more
Sama cały czas prześladują wizje Drek'a bijącego go biczem. Chłopak nie daje już rady, cały czas męczą go dzieci z banalnymi problemami. Na dodatek cały czas kłóci się z Astrid.

The book lies by Michael Grant is the 3rd book in the Gone series. This book is continued of the last book. First, in hunger Drake "dies," but now he's back again. Sam is really scared throughout the book because of Drake. There's drama between Sam and Astrid because he's not telling her things. Also, people are getting mad at Astrid because she wants to make laws and she's being a "control freak." Meanwhile, Caine is on the loose burning the town and the Human Crew is causing more problems. If I'm honest, I have to say I downright hated "Lies". I read the previous books which I preferred. The first book I liked, the second I didn't mind and I thought I should give "Lies" a try. A big mistake on my part. I think the series is just spiraling down, getting more unrealistic as it goes along.
"The Enemy" by Charlie Higson starts with a similar plot to "Lies" but unlike it, "The Enemy" is well written and even though every adult has died of turned into a flesh eating zombie, it make more...more

I swear these books get better and better. The characters are well developed and interesting. But then I made the mistake of starting to read Plague right after I read Lies. Don't do that. The books all start off the same. The first few chapters are in the near end of silence and peace after a huge downfall from the previous book. They usually start off from Sam's POV then go to Caine and so on. Like I said the same, but a new problem arises. After the little issue in Hunger- the battle between...more

“What do you think that fish is?' Sam asked Astrid.
She peered closely at the alleged fish. 'I think that's an example of Pesce inedibilis,' she said.
'Yeah?' Sam made a face. 'Do you think it's okay to eat?'
Astrid sighed theatrically. 'Pesce inedibilis? Inedible? Joke, duh. Try to keep up, Sam, I made that really easy for you.'
Sam smiled. 'You know, a real genius would have known I wouldn't get it. Ergo, you are not a real genius. Hah. That's right. I threw down an 'ergo.''
She gave him a pitying look. 'That's very impressive, Sam. Especially from a boy who has twenty-two different uses for the word 'dude.”
