Recommends it for: 13+, adventure novel series, adults who love adventure tales
With an amazing grasp of the genre, author Shawn Weaver indeed "weaves" a stupendous adventure tale as intricate as the LOTR, and as easily enjoyed as ERAGON. An little more earnest tweaking by good editor could propel this exciting novel to the top of the best-sellers list. The quest continues and you can bet -- I'll be in line to read it!

Shawn Weaver weaved a classic story of dragons and honor in his first novel I read entitled: Sense of Honor. In this story, Shawn also tells a mystical, fantastical tale with meaning.

Told in third person, Tyree, the main character, meets a mage. Later we meet the mule, Betsy whose lineage goes back to dwarves in the mines. The relationship between these two is important in my opinion and from there the reader continues to follow Tyree's adventures. With dialogue that is easily understandable, b

“Dragon’s Chest” is one in a series of adventure tales similar to J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings”. A hapless Halfling, Tyree Loveland, finds himself away from home, working as an apprentice to the mage, Master Well. The wizard has an egg of a Red Dragon, kept in a box, with hopes of raising it away from its kind, so it can be taught kindness, reason and compassion, unlike its forebears. When a dragon attacks the keep, Master Well entrusts Tyree with the delivery of the egg to an elf. Tyree ...more

This is one of those books that is always in the back of my mind when I put it down, begging me to pick it back up and read more - one of the marks of a truly engaging story. It's an epic fantasy that follows the journey of Tyree, a halfling entrusted with a rare (and much desired) dragon's egg. Pursued by dragons, an undead knight, and all sorts of other mythical monsters, Tyree and his companions race to deliver the egg before it hatches.

I adored Tyree, who is not your typical hero. He's misch

Shawn Weaver spins a fantastic tale in this fantasy adventure that follows on the heels of “Sense of Honor.”
This story continues to build the world that Weaver has created, and he introduces new characters who are on a quest to deliver a special artifact for safe keeping. The artifact is a rare and powerful dragon egg, and whoever controls it has an advantage.
Dark forces are following the journey of the egg, and will do whatever it takes to reclaim it from the band that is destined to deliver i

“The Dragons Chest” is an enticing story filled with adventure and a group of wonderfully diverse characters, which come together on a mission. The story captivated me from the beginning and wouldn’t allow me to put it down, if I happened to be in the midst of an exciting adventure. Shawn writes with such description, you feel as if you are right there alongside Tyree, May and the others. The story intertwines good vs. evil with a message of tolerance. I love that.

As I began this book I was looking forward to continue the story of our hero from Tides of War Volume 1, however Shawn Weaver goes in a different direction in Volume 2. The first chapter introduces us to a new type of hero, a lovable and at time clumsy halfling named Tyree. we follow him throughout this book as he is given a mighty task to accomplish by the powerful Wizard Master Well. We also meet a nice cast along the way as they battle dragons, demons, and dangerous totem's. Tolkien is sprink ...more

Dragon's Chest is a richly told adventure sure to please. I could see this installment in the Tides of War series being especially popular with young boys who would, no doubt, relate to young Tyree as they experience the adventure through his eyes. A dramatic fantasy adventure with both friendly and fierce dragons, halflings, elves and an epic quest to balance good and evil.
If you like good old fantasy adventures, then you can't go wrong with Dragon's Chest. Highly recommended.

Discovering books at an early age, Shawn grew to love the written word. Every genre was a new take on life. The realms of fantasy with its strong heroes and magical dragons called to him, while suspense and horror with its intriguing heroes and villains showed all of twists and turns that life held. Then again, late Saturday nights watching Creature Feature on Channel 18 with his dad, left memori
