Pete, the strangely popular musical cat, is back (Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, 2010), this time showing off all the things he can do in his school shoes.
"Pete is going to school, / and he sings this song: / 'I'm rocking in my school shoes, / I'm rocking in my school shoes, / I'm rocking in my school shoes.' Pete the Cat books rock. Didn't know anything about them, until I saw a Pete the Cat class at my local library for my K-5 grade and signed him up. Then I checked out some of the books, to see if he'd like them. Not only did he love them, but my 2 yr old twins do as well. He's laid back, cool, and groovy with beautiful and colorful illustration. All three of my kids love finding the yellow bird that follows him around on every page. (Makes me think of my Richard Scary books I had as a kid where I...more

For the love of Pete the cat! Pete the Cat, I’m Rocking in My School Shoes is included in the Pete the Cat series. Pete the Cat, I’m Rocking in My School Shoes is a great book for all children and can be enjoyed most by children in primary grades. In this book, Pete the cat visits the library, cafeteria, playground, and many other places at school. Pete never has a dull moment in school in this book. The author gives the readers a message of not worrying with the staple motto, “It’s all good”.

This is a great book for kids to sing along during a read aloud, "I'm rocking my school shoes," because it is easy to remember, it repeats a lot throughout the book, and it makes it so much fun for the kids! This is a very entertaining book, and I really enjoyed the illustrations. I would recommend this book for adults to read to children ages 4-7 and older children would definitely enjoy reading it to themselves too! This is also a great book to read to the class at the beginning of the school...more
I wanted to review this title because it is one of the titles that I have chosen to read to my group of first graders for our literature sharing assignment. (As far as I know it isn't in the text, nor has it won any awards, I'm really doing the review for my own benefit.)

This is a great series written by Eric Litwin that makes kids and adults want to get up and sing and dance while they read the book! I love books that can incorporate many ideas and actions into one story and this book does just that. The book allows the reader and the audience to sing, follow patterns and practice their colors all while following Pete the cat through his day at school. Pete the cat is wonderfully illustrated and helps draw readers into his world. The story keeps the r...more

Pete the cat is just too cool while he is in school. Pete is just beginning school, and has some truly awesome school shoes that he is obsessed with. All day long as he discovers new things about school, he never worries or gets intimidated because he has not done something before, mostly because he knows his school shoes are cool. This story incorporates great practices for younger readers by including questions about where Pete is (i.e. the library, the lunchroom). The rhyming of the words giv...more
Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes by Eric Litwin, illustrated by James Dean follows the school day of the rocking Pete as he strolls the school in his red shoes.

Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes is a great book to start off the school year with the younger grades. This book will work especially well with kindergartners who are coming in new to the school and may be a little scared and unsure of their surroundings. Pete the Cat takes us through the various parts of the school like the library, lunchroom and playground. He does this through a rhyming and repetitive song: “I’m rocking in my school shoes, I’m rocking in my school shoes, I’m rocking in...more
Pete the Cat is a new sensation that's sweeping the nation! Eric Litwin may be new on the scene, but he sure is making a splash! With the books you can go to the website and download the songs that go with them for free! The beautiful and color-filled illustrations keep children attentive and engaged. The repetition of the books lets the children anticipate the next lines and gives them confidence in reading it. The lovable character of Pete the Cat is one that children just go nuts for! This is an awesome read aloud book for children between the ages of three to seven. This book has great illustrations and a groovy cat named Pete that I think the children would find amusing. Pete the cat sings throughout the book about "rocking his red shoes" to school. During school Pete discovers different classes such as the library, lunchroom and the playground while "rocking his red shoes." I believe the children would be able to relate to Pete because children usually look forward to the...more
I actually loved this book. It was very informative and engaing and kept my attention. I loved the way it used a song to bring in what he experienced in a day at school. I thought this was a wonderful choice in books for young children. You could teach a lot of concepts to children with this book.

I am giving this a one star review in protest of the zillions of librarians and teachers who apparently have been brainwashed into thinking this is anything but well publicized mediocrity.
I have bought this and the rest in the series because they are on the NY Times bestseller list and I therefore have had a few (and let me emphasize a "few") patrons ask for them. And I don't have the excuse of them being related to a TV show/movie or containing any fold outs, lift the flaps or other assorted gi...more

Pete is such a COOL cat and he is rocking in his school shoes. He was no worries because he is cool in his new shoes I suppose. Pete reminds me of the great feeling I would feel when my parents bought me new gym shoes for school. I used to be able to pick the pair that I liked the most and I would feel so cool that Monday morning walking to school in my new shoes. I believe that is how Pete is feeling in this story. He goes to school and in every activity he felt happy, so happy that he even san...more
This is a great book for children and so fun it can be enjoyed by all ages. Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes. Pete the Cat, is now one of my favorite children's book characters. This book is great especially for prospective kindergartners, as it introduces them to the parts of a school in a positive way. This book is made fantastic by Eric Litwin as he sings the story. You can hear the sing-a-story on the HarperCollins children's website. I love this book, "Because it's all good!"
Move over Welcome to Kindergarten because Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes is my new favorite book for new Kindergarteners. Maybe I was a little biased because after the classroom, the first place Pete visits in his school shoes is the library! Although he's never been there before, Pete doesn't worry (goodness no!), instead he finds his favorite book and sings his song "I'm reading in my school shoes!" He visits other important schoolyard locales (the playground, lunchroom) and does...more
Pete the Cat: Rocking in my school shoes is a 2013 Monarch nominee. This picture book is about a cat named Pete. He is very excited to go to school and rock his red shoes! On his way to school he sing a song. During his time at shool and everytime he swtiches class, "where is Pete going?" is always question, then they answer the question followed by Pete sing a song. First he goes to class, then to the library, next to lunch, then to the playground, and finally home.

Pete the Cat, I'm Rocking in My School Shoes written by Eric Litwin is a great book for all students in Elementary School. Pete the Cat is rocking in his school shoes as he visits the library, cafeteria and playground throughout the day and never looses his groove. This is a great book to read to students during the first week of class, to let them know not to stress because because "it's all good", just how Pete the cat felt when he was at school. Another great book about Pete the Cat, as always with the same laid back vibe - it's all good! And another song to sing. Definitely capitalizing on the formula of Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes, it seems a bit derivative, but kids like things they understand! And I can see where it's helpful for small readers who love Pete and are navigating school for the first time. My kids enjoy this one and we alternate with the first one. 4 stars from me because it's not quite as original and fresh the...more
Me and my 5 year old son love Pete the Cat. In this book, Pete is rocking his school shoes while learning different areas of the school. The school thing is new to him, but he is able to overcome it because he is rocking his school shoes and looks forward to doing it all again the next day, because it is all good.
The book does have some repetitiveness and predictability, which I love. It seems to help my son who is learning to read and he loves grooving along with Pete and his songs. Highly rec...more

What's not to like about Pete the Cat? In this fun picture book, Pete introduces young children to school--some of the places we can go outside our classrooms. I read this book aloud, but the kids knew just where to answer (Goodness, no!) and how to sing Pete's song. If you need help on how to sing it, you can hear the author, Mr. Eric, read the entire book here: http://harpercollinschildrens.com/fea...

If you know a child who is about to start school, you have the perfect excuse for buying this book. Be sure you go to the noted website to download the song; you'll find yourself singing along and adding verses. Pete, the fun and confident cat, showcases the first day of school in outrageous style, sporting his Chuck Taylor hightops on the school bus, in the library, to the cafeteria, and beyond. I challenge you to listen to the song just once and then try to read the story without doing Pete's...more
I can't sing and I suspect Pete the Cat can't either. I imagine his voice a bit left of center to Tom Waits/Lou Reed/Iggy Pop. Pet the Cat sounds like he's been smoking since kitten-hood, in my mind. So I'm glad my nephews insist on Pete the Cat books as their re-read of choice. There's plenty of fun and variety in the cadence and rhythm of the language to keep it playful, even after the gazillionth read. Plus, I can change the tunes to his songs constantly and even my pitiful voice can belt out...more
This is a great book that i really like because although there isn't much story development and characters, this book is great because it shows Pete and how much he loves his school shoes and the other things that he does throughout the day.

Great for Kindergarten readiness and first day of school. This could be read, then a school tour could take place. Kids, especially K-2, will love this book. The catchy tunes that Pete sings will be loved and sung repeatedly by the class, and this particular Pete book will make Kindergartners at ease with the transition into school. Pete learns about the lunch room, library, playground, art, music, and the school bus.

Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes was a good book to read to children thou I felt it was missing something. It’s an easy to read book, appealing and relatable to children. I like that Pete’s whole school day was shown with all the different school actives. I would use this book on the first day of class so the kids would have something to relate to, because the first day is when a lot of kids get there new school shoes. This book would be appealing to kids from Pre-K through third grade t...more

Pete the Cat, Rocking in my School Shoes by Eric Litwin is a fun and catchy story. It is about a cat who attends school and does all the usual school activities, all while singing a song about his school shoes. This is a great book to read to kindergarteners. It reads the story part and sings the verses...more
