I was quite fortunate to win this copy of JournalStone’s 2010 Warped Words through Goodreads Firstreads Giveaway =) Really, incredibly lucky, because I don’ t know if this is something I would have come across at my local library or bookstore.

According to the back cover, ”The included fourteen stories are the winners of JournalStones’s first short story contest, and for some, this is their first published piece.” It is evident that the selections included in this collection are not written by p...more

I received this books from the member giveaways at LibraryThing in exchange for a review. This book made me sigh in relief and turn my e-reader off several times. The short stories in here will make you cringe, chuckle, and be sick to your stomach. The various authors have varied degrees of "warped" ideas. Some of them are as different as looking through the eyes of a tomato - to the zombie apocalypse - to cannibalism. If you have the stomach and the mentality for things that will make you wonde...more

Horror movies can be terrifying, but, for me, horror written down is far more frightening. Warped Words is a book that will creep you out from the very first story. We’re not talking about blood and gore – these stories are psychological chillers. They get inside your mind and take the covers off all the wicked things we all never want to think about – twisted mental states, unexplained, but pausible, paranormal activity, etc. You name it – it’s here. All of the authors are talented story teller...more

I have to say at first I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from it. I was afraid that the stories might be mediocre or more of a childish set of scary stories, but I found that they are genuinely very well written and gruesome enough where I think it is safe to say not really for children. I found almost all of the stories really interesting and they did a good job of keeping me on the edge of my seat and guessing what was going to come next. There...more

I tried to read this book, but it was not my type of book at all. It did not interest me whatsoever. When I spoke to the author, he informed me since I did not like even the first page, that I would not like the rest of the book. He suggested I not read it and not write a review. I am writing a review just to show that I did 'try' to read this book. It is a different book compared to the normnal fiction I am used to. I felt very uncomfortable reading it. Many people really like this book, but fo...more

"JournalStone's 2010 Warped Words, For Twisted Minds" by Christopher C. Payne was a real eye-opener and chill-twister...and, just in time for Halloween. This anthology consists of several stories that are, in my personal opinion, similar to an episode of Alfred Hitchcock or, dare I say, Tales from the Crypt. While reading these stories, I found myself looking twice at my surroundings and pondering on every "little" noise in the background.
Moreover, Mr. Payne's collection of writings was unlike a...more

I felt that many of the stories in this compilation were a redo of something I had already seen or read. I also found that the writing was a bit immature and that little attention was paid to detail. Anyone can tell a good story, but it takes real talent to write it; this collection is lacking that talent. I don't mean to be harsh but I am a fan of Dean Koontz and this is no Dean Koontz.

That aside, it was good for a read here and there because it was a collection of short stories. Some of the s...more

Adult bedtime stories. This is a delicious collection of original short and horrible stories. I highly recommend this book. Many very talented if not well known authors are compiled here. These are really what short stories should be - enough to unsettle you as you settle into a deathlike sleep. Pleasant nightmares to all.

This is a free book from the Goodreads First Reads giveaways!
I probably would not have picked out this book for myself on my own, because it's a collection of horror short stories. I'm not a fan of pure evil or terror, although I don't mind a little thriller (I know it's fine line). Needless to say many of the stories in this collection were written with a different audience (than me) in mind and will definitely give you goosebumps and nightmares.

I must have the right kind of twisted mind because I really enjoyed this book. I recieved it compliments of the authors. Thanks Guys!
The stories ran the gamut of scary, funny{to me} and just plain weird. I highly recommend it!

I didn't personally like this one. I was expecting a bit more warped and twisted and was disappointed after reading.

Warped, but some good writing .... of course, the last story is the best.

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads and am glad I did! Each of the stories was well written, thought provoking in a spooky kind of way, and many stayed with me even after the book was closed. I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.

This is a really good book, it is awesome actually. The stories are creepy and thought provoking and give you that all over ugh creep out feeling. I LOVED IT. It was a delight to read. It is a very fast paced read and the stories just take you away to what every creepville they want to take you. Well done.

I won this book in the giveaway. OK so the plan was to give this to my friend who enjoys reading. But I am afraid it may be too scary to give him. So I have to read it first, to make sure he does not judge me by the scary contents. I will have a well lit house. Maybe invite some friends over. I'll be right back...

I won this through the Goodreads giveaway. The best thing I can say about this book is that it was free.
This collection of short stories reminded me of something you would buy from a less-than-talented high school creative writing class. To call the stories immature would be a gross understatement.

I thought this was a highly entertaining read. This was full of some easily "Keep You Up All Night" type stories. These tales will twist you minds leaving you in awe at how twisted they actually are. My recommendation is given, now I hope you all enjoy this read as much as I did.

Definitely one to give to my sons who are huge fans of horror. From the little I read myself, it's well written and edited and guaranteed to keep me awake at night if I read more!
