3.5 stars, rounded down. I liked it as a "straight girl's fantasy" but I thought there was more sex than necessary. The epilogue was completely unnecessary except to wrap up the pirating issue, and that could have been done as a more active part of the story. (I kept expecting it to happen and it never did.) The characters were sweet together and I generally liked them. However, I never bought into Carrie's reason for going to her loan shark uncle. She didn't strike me as stupid enough to think...more
Re-read 12/15/12: This book is still really good the second time around. Scotty and Cal make a great couple and I like how they prepared to add Carrie to their mix. I liked the slight D/s aspect to the story too. I could have done without the loan shark thing though. I am now going to look to see if there is another book that maybe has Julio in it.

Missy Welsh weaves a story that has an unusual premise, at times a comical plot, and extremely steamy sex scenes. All of that came together to make this novella an unforgettably fun read.
TAKE THE SHOT is the story of Carrie, who is in love with her two friends Cal and Scotty. They are porn stars -- gay porn stars. And what makes matters worse, they are in love with each other. No...more

It was well-written, becasue Missy Welsh is a good writer. And it was hot. But it also reminded me why I usually prefer m/m to m/f these days, with a stereotypical heroine who needs a big strong hero to come along and save her from some dasterdly meanie. Plus, she seemed stubbornly determined to think the worst - that it was a one-night stand - rather than consider that these guys were good enough friends it could be something more. I'd rather have just read about the two guys, if that's what...more

This was light read that wasn't just a smut show, there was an actual plot included. Carrie gets a job at her high school crush's porn company to help her through some tough times because she owns a loan shark $10,000. Oh Carrie's in debt. And her crush Scotty a gay porn star helped her out with the job.
Carrie gets to photograph Scotty and his boyfriend, Cal in action. And it makes her hot under the collar. But don't cue the cheesy porn music just yet. Remember, there's a plot and lots of sexua...more

Cant rate it. I thought it was M/M when I started reading it so it soured the book when it ended up being M/F/M. I have read other M/F/M books and liked them just fine. I guess I wasnt expecting it. I just skimmed through the last 50%.
Cute story--small attempt at adding a crime element that didn't add anything to the story. It was interesting that Carrie ended up being a Domme-wasn't what I expected but it wasn't completely off putting.
My second book coming from Loose Id in November 2010. It was in response to a call for stories featuring some type of voyeurism :)
You should know that this has M/M sex and M/M/F sex, plus Carrie's a bit of a dominant (nothing overly explicit). There's an excerpt available at Loose Id as well as in my profile in here as one of my "writings".

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would! I was thinking it was going to be a bit cheesy, and it was a bit but only in a gigglesnort kind of way. But the emotions were real, and I liked that, and you could really feel Carrie's lust and confusion.
Sex scenes very hot. I liked it but not as much as My Summer of Wes...that one had me screaming out loud in the middle of the gym when my kindle battery quit.

Romance has always been the main theme of her writing, even when she was twelve and concocting little tales for her friends. She grew up watching tough-guy action movies with her dad and stealing her mom’s romance novels, so it seemed perfectly normal to pair up the two and see what happened. As long as there are men being brave and falling love, Missy plans to fantasize about them— Um, she means...more
