The Divine Ms M
I have always managed to read from start to finish every novel I’ve reviewed, although some were difficult to complete for a variety of reasons. I believed that since I’d bought a book, I was going to read it, and only then would I post a review.

Not this time. Now I actually found a book so awful from first page to last that I realized by the end of Chapter One it was completely unreadable. I had struggled through until the end of Chapter Eight when I noticed my highlighting and comments were mo...more

I just finished reading my copy of “Day of Revenge” by author Deanna Proach and I’ll be honest and admit I’m rather disappointed. Initially I had requested to read / review “Day of Revenge” because it’s a historical fiction set in France during the late seventeen hundreds at a time when the country was in a major religious and political upheaval. Being an actual descendant of those who fled France around this time period I was very interested to read Proach’s book to see how well she intertwined...more

Just won this book with Goodreads. Will review it as soon as I read it!

I just finished reading it and I can't say that it was my favorite book. I had high expectations since I thought placing a story post-French revolution and to be on the side of the anti-revolutionnaries would be very interesting. However, I felt there was not enough twists in the story for it to be gripping.

It was just an ok read for me...

While I do not own a copy of Ms. Proach's book, one of my reviewers at The Deepening World of Fiction has reviewed the novel for me. I suspect she might have given the author 3 stars, but my take on the review--especially during editing--is such that there were enough issues they reduced reader enjoyment. Why don't you decide for yourself: the review can be found at http://reviews.thedeepening.com/2011/....

There could be a decent story in there somewhere, but the writing is so unequivocally awful I couldn't make it through the third chapter to find it.

Deanna Proach is also the author of Day of Revenge (Inkwater Press), a historical fiction set in 1793 France, and she's an avid reader and blogger. When Proach is not writing, she's actively involved in her local theatre community as an actress, and she's learning the art of Medieval sword fighting.
